  • Charlie Burton, trader and educator gives his top 10 tips for trading the markets. PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE so we can bring you more! Those rules and tips are not exhaustive but should be helpful for most traders. The first tip is for those traders who trade mechanically - those traders that follow a trading system based on trading signals; as soon as the system starts failing and experiences a drawdown period the trader starts to doubt the methodology. Its quite difficult to follow a mechanical system. My second tip is to make use of multi timeframe analysis.
Being overleveraged is the downfall of many traders. Risk management and risk control is paramount.

Funny enough, a lot of successful traders are wrong about their market analysis/outlook.......yet still make money. Because they're open and willing to switch sides........They don't care about whether they're right or wrong. They just want to make money.

Top down time frame saved me and helped me complete my strategy/setups. I also agree on varying position size. Same thing with stop losses. Friends always ask me “what’s your stop loss?” It depends on what I’m willing to lose.

Yes multiple time frames are essential. Weekly Daily 4 hour I use but I execute on the 1and 5 minutes.

I look at the overall market. If the monthly chart is severely overextended i will increase the leverage. I also think fixed stop losses are useless.

    10 Tips
    1. Trade Mechanically. Don't second guess your system based on feelings.
    2. Use Multiple Time Frame (Top Down)
    3. Vary Position Size depending upon setup
    4. Risk Management, Favourable Risk Reward Ratio
    5. Mindset to implement Strategy even when you have losses
    6. Ignore the Noise, make your own decisions.
    7. There is no single way to correctly trade. Fund a setup and timeframe that suits you.
    8. It takes longer than you think, learning and returns take time.
    9. Expectancy of setup changes as market cycle charges is not fixed.
    10. Adapt
