The story of Klaatu is really a tragic one... The made such great music and there’s no debating that they deserve more credit. That being said, it’s so so beautiful to see him be all happy about his life and how they’re music went

I just discovered Klautu in the last six months, thanks to The Holleyhobbs RUclips site. I am now 64 y.o. and wonder how I missed them, yet glad I found them. It's great to find a band that doesn't sell out, even at the expense of mega success, of which they were definately capable. Love their music!

I lovedddd the rumor and am baffled why the world didn’t embrace these guys or ANY group or any human who could so profoundly emulate the Beatles.
Anybody with a keen ear could clearly discern that these guys weren’t actually the Beatles, but how mind blowing to hear their songs and how fun it was to hear others writing, singing, playing and producing on that Peppers level; which they you never did another thing in life these beautiful soles have earned a seat on the rock and roll throne.
I find it refreshing to hear Terry say that they merely wanted to remain anonymous and let their music do speak for them. How amazingly, refreshingly HUMBLE. Love U Klaatu!

"If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing" That made me laugh. And that kind of suited Klaatu. I bought their 1st LP soon as it was released. And even though I knew 10 seconds in that it wasn't The Beatles-- I still loved 'em... and for years and each new album thereafter.

Klaatu have a rhetorical energy of cosmic truth. The themes they choose, Little Neutrino and Calling Occupants, touch very deep psychic realities in humans. As Snoopy says, 'I quote the truth from where I find it.' Klaatu play proggy pop music, but their sense of gravitas is profoundly delightful. Perhaps the light trippy genre is an ideal carrier for these attributes because the irony of truth appearing in a pop band does nothing to diminish the feeling of touching the universal.

Love this guy. Fantastic. Very inspiring. Love how he talks about the older recording technologies. The limitations of old 4 track recordings like the early Beatles tracks.
Great stuff. Just listened to the Klaatu albums from 1976 and 1977, on vinyl, on my grandma's old vavle gramophone. That's the way it's meant to be!

The first Klaatu album is an undeniable classic. Sadly though the record companies in the late 70's were starting to look for the next big "new wave" band that would produce nice little two minute and thirty second pop tunes and wore skinny ties. Like The Police, The Cars or Talking Heads. Plus these guys never toured to promote their albums.

Great interview! I've never seen Dee, John or Terry in anything but photos. In the 80's I convinced my little rock and roll bar band to cover "Sellout". It was received like we were such visionaries! Do you know how hard it was to not take the credit? :-)

@wtw88 I never heard any of their stuff, or the rumours, until the early `80's, but, I didn't think they were The Beatles, nor had I even thought they might be until I heard about the rumour. Then I noticed the similarities in style and realized how they COULD'VE been mistaken for The Beatles, at least on the first 3 albums. Years later, I found a copy of the 4th album (and the 5th), which wasn't Beatlish in style, but "Howl At The Moon" was the coolest song on it. GREAT bass sound!!

I saw "if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing" first on the liner notes of a Todd Rundgren record from way back. Maybe the "Todd" LP. I got my sister to stitch it onto a placard and frame it back when she was into stitching stuff onto placards maybe 50 years ago.
I've lost my LP of the first Klaatu album and am shopping for a replacement which seems to sell in the $90 range (used) today. Still have my old Hope and Sir Army Suit LPs. Can't decide between the first album and Hope as my favorite. They may both be my favorite.

I first heard Klaatu here in the UK on the Alan Freeman Saturday Rock Show, in 1976. He played 'Calling Occupants' which instantaneously made me a fan of this incredible band.

Me too. 👍 1976, but it wasn't "Fluff" Freemans' show I first heard the album. I worked down in Cambridge back then and every night I got home I would listen to radio Caroline and, -- I forget the name of the show,-- but the disc jockey Always finished his show with " Little Neutrino " But! Just at the last two minutes before going off the air, he added on the Beatles' track "The End" ( starting only from the lyrics..-- 'and in the end....the love you etc...' What a great way to finish a show every night! Your post instantly transported me back to that time. Made some real good friends during that period of my life. Thanks for jogging my memories! Peace from Ayrshire Scotland during these "odd" times.🎶 ✌

What a wonderful revelation for me. Klaatu was God for my friends and I. At least until Endangered Species (I know this sounds a trifle odd / To those who thought Klaatu was God . . . we had to soothe ourselves with sarcasm upon the horrifying first listen.) But I'd never seen nor heard any of the members interviewed until now . . . with one exception: we made a beeline for the Toronto nightclub -- Starz? Ballz? -- when we learned they finally were playing live and were able to corner Woloschuk for about 15 minutes, post-concert. He was very gracious, though reserved. In retrospect I think we would have had more fun with Terry. He seems like a Klaatu fan. Just like us.

Robert Ballot came across this by accident. I first heard "little neutrino" on radio Caroline 1977. Don't know what show it was but the disc jockey always finished his slot with this song. I used wait for the next day so I could hear it again!! 4'o'clock every afternoon. Ended up buying album after album of theirs and this is the only time I've ever seen them.

Disagree... They started anonymous and stayed anonymous for the right reasons. I mean you cant even barely find an interview on this band. And because they stayed anonymous made them unique and mysterious and were demonized for that???. We all wanted to be rock stars for the fame and woman. These guys just wanted to produce music and lead a normal life which was their demise.

Haven't you heard the rhoticity in some of their pronunciation in the songs? They sound in at least two songs like Wings and solo Lennon mixed with the pepperesque/mmt psychedelic recording techniques, but the rhoticity in their accents confirms that their not the Beatles, scouse accent is non-rhotic and american and canadian accents are rhotic.

This fella sounds like he could be lying his pants off - who ever heard of a band trying to make their mark as talented artists desperately trying to sound like another band? John Lennon did mention once that Apple was created to help struggling musicians who couldn't get the established companies to take notice of them - perhaps this is why they sound like the Beatles, because the Beatles may have been actively involved...food for thought.
