I watched this movie after years of not seeing it and realized Tarzan has a similar character backstory/premise to Loki (who found out he was another race/species by accident and confronted Odin to find out he was actually the son of the “enemy” leader Laufey) and Moses in Prince of Egypt (who believed he was born to the Pharaoh and his wife until his actual sister sung a song he recognized from his real mother and shattered his sense of self). All three have a reconciliation moment with their adoptive mothers where those women all basically say “You *are* our son, whether or not you’re of our blood (or race)”. What I find interesting is how two of them are concluded as heroes in their stories (Moses and Tarzan), and one continues to be shoehorned into being a complicated villain (Loki) even when it seems unnatural to force the story that way as his story progresses. Thing is, as a kid I absolutely hated Tarzan (the movie) but I could never name a reason why. Meanwhile I’m obsessed with Loki as a character and Prince of Egypt remains one of my favorite animated musicals, so much that I love it more than at least 60% of Disney content.
