I'm a custom furniture maker & also play guitar. I think I may make myself a couple with a revised design, perhaps out of spalted maple, curly maple, black limba or? Endless design & wood possibilities! I do think it would look better using thick stock. It looks like the ones listed are only 3/4" stock.

I bought two of the Zither branded ones in red oak. I was torn about mahogany, 50% more expensive but I thought it would match better. However the pictures didn't really show the color well and I went with the cheap ones. On this video you show the rich mahogany color and I wish I'd sucked it up and went with it. I can say this: these stands are fantastic. To prevent any risk of nitro burn as insurance I just put an old baby sock on each side of the holder and no worries.

Consider yourself lucky with that lemon oil. It sounds difficult, but it's only used to condition an existing oil finish.
The old rule on actually creating rubbed oil finishes (with boiled linseed oil) was to apply one coat a day for the first week, one coat every week for the first month, one coat each month for the first year, and then one coat per year for the rest of eternity.
Also, they would use either 000 or 0000 steel wool on the item followed by a thorough wipe with tack cloth before each new coat. This process is pretty much why people stopped using oil finishes.
On the other hand, regularly applying lemon oil to a rosewood fretboard is highly recommended as long as you don't overdo it. (Caveat: opinions vary wildly as to what constitutes 'overdoing it'. Use your own discretion. )

    • @FraJa1980
      @FraJa1980 4 года назад

It's not recommendable to "overdo" that as Lemon Oil is a cleaner instead of a conditioner and can actually dry out a fretboard if used too frequently and without at least a slight coat of linseed oil afterwards to get some of the moisture back in you took out with the Lemon oil.

Just an FYI to anyone who might be interested, the bike hangers they sell for 80 cents at Menard's - the ones coated in the blue coating - make good wall hangers and are nitro safe. I've been hanging my 125 on one for a while with no issues.

The problem with making the stands to fit side by side is the inverse shapes would have a narrow toe, or front. This would make it less stable as the center of gravity is rather forward when the guitar is on it, and stability is important.

I have hung my guitars on the wall for years, not one issue, not even a close call. I have music room in the basement, bought hanger brackets from Lowe’s that they make for hanging rakes and brooms in the garage. Drilled a hole in the concrete, put an anchor in, and screwed the hanger in. Those hangers that hardware stores sell for take and brooms fit perfectly for guitars. Give it a try sometime Austin! Also, I am not a very handy person when it comes to projects and I did it with ease, so don’t think you have to be a carpenter to do some of this stuff.

US$200? The most I've ever spent on a guitar stand is the equivalent of US$7, for a cheap little metal A-frame stand. It's more stable than that pretty Gibson stand: the guitar's weight rests on padded supports an inch above the floor instead of being dangled by the headstock from 45 inches up. The Gibson stand needs to be where it can't get knocked over, like in a display case -- except in earthquake-prone California, where it might not be safe even then.

When it comes to wood, the only real difference I see, is looks. All wood will warp if not treated correctly, and if you stain the wood and gloss it to seal it, then its not likely going to warp considering we are talking about a guitar stand in your house. :)

If you were to put it in a more permanent spot, it wouldn’t be anything to bevel some screw holes in the base. Then buy some pretty brass screws and screw it down to the floor for added security against tipping. I kinda like them, I’ll probably give them a shot. It looks nicer sitting around, like a piece of furniture.

I spent an hour polishing it with lighter fluid to minimize the stain. No joke, I was livid. I had to modify all of them to protect the necks. You also get the guitar holder and screw inserts. You get sourcing, cutting, and finishing of the wood. The get use of the sandpaper, stain, brushes, a workbench, saws, router, drill, and the electricity to run the machines and lights. You get the cardboard box and lemon oil with a rag. You get someone to write out instructions, and someone to print them up. And let's not forget about the person who designed this thing. There are lots of people involved here.
There is a reason a doctor calls a repairman when an appliance breaks. He's got other shit to do. We advance through specialization.

@@derekcole6750 Not right now, but you know what would be cool would be if the base had large, short dowels in it that fit onto a larger base with holes, like wooden Lego's. Then you could have a line of 4 or 5 that couldn't get knocked over.

I don't know about that stand,it looks like it's easily tipped over sidewards, mounting them to the floor would solve that issue though,at least with an A frame the guitar hasn't got far to fall as it's on the floor anyway almost, and $200 is not fairly priced, but it was free so win win 👍✌️

Not sure if you heard about this yet, but Gibson is going after Heritage now. Might be a good topic for a video.

I've seen them before, they look reallly cool, would NEVER put my expensive guitarrs on a stand or hanger period. It stays in the case, then goes back in the case

Nice stand, but a little pricey for what it is. Fender has a nice wood display stand that I personally like better. (I have 2 of them). The branding is removable if desired. Check it out. Love your channel. Rock on.

I built a stand exactly like that for $25.00. Then 3D printed a Gibson logo for the base, and TAA-DAA!

Use scrap metal so the base is heavy, maybe rebar bent like a spine and add electrical and pressure gauges with a low power LED. Now I have an idea!

Now Austin, you expected Gibson to include something for free? Those guys charge you for everything. :D But, don't worry about it hugging the headstock. If you have a Les Paul, it will eventually break off the headstock and solve that issue.

Having knocked over a guitar in a floor stand and broken some tuners off, I can honestly say my guitars hanging on the wall are much safer. Of course the hangers must be secured properly into a beam. Over 15 years with no mishaps.....so far.

Ain't that just the way it goes, buy one thing then you need to buy another thing to support the first thing, after which it's nice to have this other thing to make the first thing sound better and then you got to get that other thing fixed and so get an interim thing so you can keep doing your thing with your thing. And then, 👩🏼✨ one day you see this other thing ...
