I'm so glad I was finally able to show off Mohawk for so many new people! I unironically love this game, and have immense respect for the mastermind behind it all, D. Scott Williamson. This was an incredibly fun run to perform, and I couldn't ask for a better result. Shoutouts to the crowd for being such a blast to play off of, and to everybody who watched this run or supported AGDQ in any way. ^_^
I actually unironically liked this game as a kid, I got to the orbatron boss, unfortunately it was always a rental so I never got farther. This and metal warriors were 2 games I would rent after I already had a Playstation, even when I had PS games available. I was glad it got shown at AGDQ although I feel it was too good for awful block.
For me, this was the highlight of Awful games Block. Thou that may have been because of you, your Couch and the crowd. You all made this entertaining to see.
Like pj said, this game is a technical marvel for the SNES. The fact it can run with 1 or 2 minor glitches, with PJ, the master of breaking games, saying it's solidly constructed is praise all in itself. The camera makes this "awful", but the game itself is amazing. Definitely worth a play.
"Never call PJ's bluff." I genuinely don't think PJ is even capable of bluffing, he goes all in on every run of his I've seen and always has the biggest grin for the whole time. He's always serious and having a great time and I love it
So, We need a Tasbot 100% run of this now.. just so we can say it can be done. In all seriousness.. The Runner, and the commentary from EVERYONE made this the most entertaining of the Awful block and one of my top faves of the entire event.
this run was wild! PJ has delivered on a spectacular run, and that crowd had far too much energy for four in the morning. This goes up as one of my favorite runs of the marathon, for good reason.
Honestly, Mohawk skirts the line between what I'd call "Memorably bad" and "Memorably good". It's got some good ideas, it's got some obvious love put into it, and it pulls off some interesting stuff with what it's got... It just needs some polish (such as having it be made a bit more clear where the player can and can't go and making what the player needs to do more apparent) plus some slightly beefier hardware to really work. Hell, I bet if it were a Super FX game it'd run a lot more smoothly.
Does it need polish? I mean every game can be polished further depending on creator's standards but for this I don't see any area that truly could be improved. It's not a game for everyone, that's for sure. But there aren't that many games that manage to show what they intend as well as Mohawk. I know I'd never play it. However, I'm genuinely curious what the creative process and especially the programming phase was like.
I remember briefly playing this once at a friends house one early Saturday morning and would think about it every few years because I could never remember what it was called. A childhood mystery has been solved this day.
This is my third-maybe fourth-time rewatching this run since AGDQ2019, and I still find this run a delight to watch. I'm thankfully not particularly vulnerable to motion sickness (at least not from moving graphics), so luckily I've not had too much trouble watching this run that many times. What a technical marvel this is. Those maps are huge and the gravity mechanic is really ahead of its time!
No matter how bad this game is in terms of gameplay, it is a technical marvel that they could fit maps that big, That complex, with all of the gravity shenanigans, on the SNES
I had the good fortune to find a copy of this at Too Many Games last month. I can't get past FunBot, even following this run as a guide. They're not kidding, PJ makes the game look way easier than it is.
It's weird, I actually do have motion sickness issues, and some first person games like Mirror's Edge I really can't even watch footage of, but Mohawk and Headphone Jack didn't affect me, besides the obvious "wtf?" we all feel seeing this game
So for the fun of it, I grabbed the CD completion percentages of each stage. 1-1: 40% 1-2: 0% 2-1: 126% 2-2: 2% 3-1: 124% 3-2: 0% 4-1: 136% 4-2: 4% 5-1: 188% 5-2: 0% 6-1: 245% 6-2: 4% 7-1: 294% 7-2: 3% For all the CD collection stages the average is 165%, for the boss stages it's 2%, and overall average is 83%.
I'd only ever seen screenshots of this game before, so I was totally unprepared for what the actual gameplay would look like. I'm not sure I'd have much luck finding my way around, but I can certainly appreciate on some level what a technical feat it is.
So I sat through and watched the whole thing...I feel both entertained and physically sick, so pretty much dinner with my fiance's parents. 10/10 would watch again.
So I just saw a screenshot on discord of you making this suggestion on the shake corrected video 3 years ago, and then not 2 minutes later I see this. What a legend.
This looks like it was made to be a Sonic the Hedgehog game for SNES but heavily reskinned for obvious reasons. Mohawk, long feet, running style, gameplay, bossfights, music, the discs are even rings! Absolutely incredible homage either way.
kinda would be an insult to them during a block called "Awful games done quick", but outside of the block, D. scott providing commentary about this would be cool .:o
I'm orberwhelmed. Tornado pipe was rough on the eyes for sure. I really like playing Uniracers because of the crazy physics mixed with some Tony Hawk style controls.
Runner introduction starts at 0:11.
Run starts at 1:07.
Couch commentary is provided by Bingchang, jabelsjabels, and Klaige.
TheBoyks is the host.

TheSuperSNES well done PJ! I love games that are so bad, they are amazing. Again, good job, and congrats on contributing to an amazing cause!
Thanks PJ, and congratulations on finally being able to run this on a GDQ!

You're the best, PJ! Your runs are always immensely entertaining.
"PJ can you explain what the enemies are?"
"Nope."

For anyone wondering, at 18:06 the guy says "We live in the best timeline!"
And he's right.
Thanks
Beautiful, thank you
So THIS is where we're headed on this bizarre universal experiment
Thank you love watching this video but never understood him
How is PJ THIS entertaining with every game he runs, and every run he makes? Damn, I love that man.
"Never call PJ's bluff."
I genuinely don't think PJ is even capable of bluffing, he goes all in on every run of his I've seen and always has the biggest grin for the whole time. He's always serious and having a great time and I love it
i love how PJ is so cool and chilly , and switches music, or shows the map and dont give a shit for the 1second it´ll cost..
He's the only runner of this game. He doesn't care about beating anyone's score, hahaha!
RIP Headphone Jack. Apple did you dirty.
Pro-tip: Don't let Apple do you dirty.
So, We need a Tasbot 100% run of this now.. just so we can say it can be done.

Everyone always has energy for Awful Block. It's the best

PAL Mohawk is completely lagless, for what it's worth.
WooOOOOoooah
Great crowd. FIFTEENTH TIME'S THE CHARM!

For anyone wanting to hear it again
@@logicloops4069 i searched too long to find this! what a hilarious moment
I remember briefly playing this once at a friends house one early Saturday morning and would think about it every few years because I could never remember what it was called. A childhood mystery has been solved this day.
I love this guy’s passion for this completely forgotten game, this kind of positivity and true enjoyment for videogames is why I love speedrunning

Real talk: this run was fantastic. Incredibly funny and entertaining, and a game I've never heard of before!
This game was really ahead of its time. Really makes you wonder what else the SNES is capable of.
I hate it when people refer to stuff as a 'fever dream', but this... this is 100% it.
This is my reality. No fever. Not dreaming.
Legit the best crowd in agdq history, I swear! My favorite run of all time!
No matter how bad this game is in terms of gameplay, it is a technical marvel that they could fit maps that big, That complex, with all of the gravity shenanigans, on the SNES
This dude is too hilarious, and this game with his commentary is the perfect combo.
The crowd was so great in this. PJ is, as always, a National Treasure.
This is the longest 43 minutes in existence and I love it.
This game is basically an interactive demoscene, hahaha.
I just googled and my God, you're RIGHT, and that's FANTASTIC
@@Delcat42 didn't pay attention to this comment until I saw your reply and googled it too. Fascinating
This is the most entertaining runner, couch and crowd I've seen on any gdq video I watched lol
This run was soo cool. Catched live a bit, props to the runner!
I've been looking for a game to do a TAS of. And I think this is the one.
this run was super funny but also really impressive to watch. nice work PJ, awfulGDQ never disappoints!
orb
Among the most entertaining runs I’ve ever seen
PJ's runs never get old to me. He's so calm and still hilarious at the same time. Keep it up, PJ
PJ is, was, and always will be my favorite runner.
Orrrrbbbbb
In Bionic Commando, PJ made the main character go "AHHHHHH"
Now he returns, and this time, it is US who go "AHHHHH"
I can't wait for what's next
Glad to see this game being shown off at a GDQ, it was a wild ride!

Where does the orb meme come from?
I'm curious too, which run did the meme start on ?

@@FirengeI Super Mario World from the Orb ending Sunken Ship level, and never really showing up again.
a year later this is still my favorite speedrun that exists
Damn my eyes are still spinning minutes after seeing the run.
Awesome run. Very glad I discovered the anti-nausea properties of peppermint oil /before/ I watched it, though.
I really enjoyed this run. Thanks for finally allowing it.
This game is super impressive, mechanic wise
I never get nauseous but the “guts” stage almost broke me
Entertaining run as always PJ.
And the best crowd
Love PJ and his runs. Always a pleasure to watch them. Even all this time later. I hope he becomes the front man for awful block.

I love the audience almost as much as the game.
Remember, this could technically be added to SNES Online.
Oh my god, I hadn't thought of that but now I really, REALLY wish they would.
Who needs VR when u can get motion sick in this sick game?
30:14 In the previous level, I thought about them rotating the screen in a pipe...and they did it!
Tbh, this actually looks like it would be fun, aside from the vertigo
GDQ needs a PJ section.
this was a SNES game. Mode 7 working overtime much?
Oh man, I really wanted to know what that donation meant when he said the game mysteriously turned into F-Zero during practice.
The crowd is half the fun in this run. I love it.
Can we get a petition going to get this game remade for another, newer console? It looks amazing and I wanna play something like it, or it itself.
back in the fuckin' 90's, oh yeah
I'm upset that they didn't name general headslot Foe hawk instead.
Pretty sure the fauxhawk wasn't really a thing when this game came out. Pretty sure that was a late 90s thing at the earliest.
Wow that game is a masterpiece, i never heard about it before.
This game actually has some awesome features! I like the gravity, for example.
Urp, this game almost made me hurl several times. Especially the "you win" screen. And I don't get motion sick very easily.
this run is absolutely amazing i'm dying ;D
This game is perfect for Team Poor Life Choices.
One of the most impressive 2d platformer engines I can think of. It's incredible to watch.
Also probably the hardest 2d platformer to look at.
Thank god I can pause this when I'm getting too nauseous. PJ's got a stronger stomach than me!
I'd only ever seen screenshots of this game before, so I was totally unprepared for what the actual gameplay would look like. I'm not sure I'd have much luck finding my way around, but I can certainly appreciate on some level what a technical feat it is.
This is wholesome!
*Nice Content*
Great crowd
My roommate, upon seeing Mohawk in the pipe: Why does he turn into intestines?!
I'm dying hfudsjkfnm
THIS GAME IS SONIC ON LSD
This shouldn't be in awful games block... This was awesome. Like he said several times - technical masterpiece! *ORB!*
15TH TIMES THE CHARM!

AGDQ 2020, AMID EVIL. Not only developer commentary, but one of the best runs of the event.
I find it ironic that CDs would feature in a cartridge game.
Also, this game looks kind of impressive for being on the SNES.
This game looks fun. Maybe not good, but fun. I'd play this game.
Haha this game is hilariously nausea inducing. Great run!
Fantastic run.
Cooler than Sonic.
36:55 who did he say found the clip again? And can I see where he beat every SNES game?
