As Donald Trump prepares for return to the White House, he is vowing to intensify trade hostilities with China by imposing additional tariffs of 60 percent or more on all Chinese imports. Experts say the U.S. now confronts a different China than 8 years ago. The Chinese economy is more dependent on exports, making tariffs more potent, yet it's also less reliant on American markets and increasingly bent on self-sufficiency. Still, if Trump does follow through, Chinese industry would suffer.
