    Very well done video and i think you will definitely go far with youtube, Thumbs up, and subscribed. One gripe, i think the comparison would have been better if you compared the LG SN7R vs Vizio SB36512-F6. Same price point, same 5.1.2 and same range in other categories.

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne 3 года назад

      Great question! In a nutshell, since they have to cram so many components into the compact footprint of a soundbar, the quality of those components can only be so high. When a receiver is the one processing the audio signal, it will just handle it better. It has better internal components and can handle the cacophony of loud action scenes more than a soundbar. The Vizio was definitely impressive, with an easy time hooking it all up, but the receiver+speakers setup is still better overall

    Hey man, I really enjoyed the review, as I have enjoyed all of your content. I'm just curious, and I'm sure you've answered this many times, how would you compare the Vizio here to the Klipsch cinema 600. I am strongly considering the Vizio as the price is just under 600 but have heard some good things about the Klipsch. Having, or not having atmos, is not a deal breaker for me. I am looking for good clean sound and also good deep bass, but bass that doesn't sound too over powering or muddy. I currently have a LG 2.1 soundbar and am looking for something with a little deeper bass and a center channel for better vocals, as they can get lost with the soundbar that I currently have. Any info or feedback that you could provide would be awesome. Thanks!!!!

    Hello again. New to the channel and just found this video. I did buy the Visio 5.1.2 model (which I guess is the model below this one)and have been very happy over all. Other then having some issues getting Dolby Atoms to work on various streaming services that claim to offer it the sound is great. Even non Atmos. The question I have is can you explain the difference in the settings on surround balance and Surround volume. Thank you and keep up the good work the videos are great.

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne 3 года назад +1

      Surround balance means adjusting the audio left to right. Maybe one surround speaker had to be placed a little farther away from you than the other, depending on your setup, so adjusting the balance would help even that out. Surround volume adjusts the overall loudness of the surround speakers. 👍🙌

      It was really unfortunate that I had a lemon when it came to the rear surround speakers squealing quietly on the VIZIO, but was impressed with the system overall. That sub held its own, and I also have a large living room w/ 10’ ceilings. I haven’t heard the JBL in person, and since it’s a soundbar alone, I can only recommend the Vizio since it has surround speakers, which is a nice touch. And the JBL sub looks a tad smaller than the Vizio, so w/ a large living room I don’t think it’ll have enough power. If you can spend a little more, get that Vizio, yo! 😄

    Why would you compare LG's entry Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 setup to a system that's twice as expensive?...that really doesn't seem fair...you should get a lot more for twice the money, which all you did was confirm. A better comparison would be the LG SN7R vs Vizio's entry level Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 system the Vizio SB36512-F6, now that would be interesting. I have the LG system in my bedroom and I think it performs great, by the way....but I would buy a better system for my living room because it's twice as big. Yeah, for $300 that’s a great deal. It didn’t work in my living room with 10’ ceilings and open concept design. I have no idea what your situation is, but ideally upward firing Atmos speakers are best with 8’ ceilings and having a more isolated living room.

      @@ealanosborne hey thanks for the response. It arrived yesterday and I am very disappointed. Now I can understand why you didn't recommend it. There are a few things you didn't mention which are deal breakers for me which you might want to spend more time covering in other reviews. The problem I had are more on the feature and user experience side. 1 this LG sound system doesn't seem to be compatible with my universal remote,this remote has been compatible with everything else I've ever used that take IR inputs. 2 I've used Vizio sound are before and they have a virtual surround sound setting called surround dual which essentially uses the sound speakers when there is only stereo input. This is very useful to keep the volume a little lower if you have roommates or kids because you can have the rear speakers on and since they are closer to you, you can have the volume lower. The LG speaker has no such input or if there is one it is difficult to find and not in the instructions which is just as bad as not having it. 3 if I use the remote to change the sound effect on the soundbar it just displays "not supported" idk if this is because the input is pcm but with my previous Vizio soundbar I could still change the sound mode. This is very important with this soundbar because by default it seems to have a volume equalizer on so loud scenes become quieter and quiet scenes become louder. This setting is aweful. I watched John wick with it on and gun shots and explosions were quiet and lame but voices in quiet scenes were overly loud. Also if you realize it is on you will start to notice the soundtrack going annoying up and down with the natural increase or decrease of volume. This makes the volume seem erratic and completely takes me out of the movie when someone whispering in one scene is louder than a thumping bass in a club in the next scene. If it is possible to change these things I think I need to use the app which (if you see the 2.5 star rating) doesn't work very well and for most people can't even connect to the speaker.
      These are deal breakers for me. I have had for less than 24 hours but I'm am returning as soon as my new soundbar arrives. I decided to pick up VIZIO SB36514-G6 36" 5.1.4 which is more than I wanted to spend originally but seems like a good middle ground to the set up you had featured in the video.
      Sorry for the novel lol

    I have an idea for a possible budget costco battle. They have the R-41M bookshelf speakers on sale for $90 right now. What if you added those to the $350 sale price Reference Theatre pack and use them for front Left and Right? Then use the smaller Reference speakers for your atmos ceiling speakers. Whether you mount on the ceiling or just point them upward. That might be able to enter for budget atmos. Negative is finding a decent receiver to handle that many channels. Im new to this and still learning whats available. A $700 receiver now puts the modified reference theater set over 1000 and not a fair battle to the Visio. For those smaller speakers can you get away with a receiver half that price?

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne 3 года назад

      That’s a great idea!! The Denon s750H you can get for $499 which is a 7.1 Dolby Atmos-ready receiver. So since there are 7 channels to play with, you could make the 5.1.2 system you were referring to. Def prefer speakers that point directly at the listening position, as opposed to firing off the ceiling, so mounting them on the ceiling or in the corner of the ceiling would be ideal. But $350 for 5.1, $500 for receiver, $90 for bookshelf speakers, yeah that’s $1,000+, but would still be a larger sound stage and a discrete Atmos setup. I bet that Denon receiver will go on sale for $400 at some point, so then that could really be worth it!

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne 3 года назад +1

      @@TacticoolNinja Well, you’ll need a receiver to power the Reference Theater Pack, so that’ll be an additional expense. But I’ll always personally prefer a receiver+speakers over a soundbar. It’s more work to hook it all up with speaker wire, etc, but more reliable and solid in the end. But I understand the ease and popularity of soundbars these days.

    • @ealanosborne

      Eh, still just decent. 5 or 6 out of 10? The intense compression (and volume reduction) that happened during loud action scenes took the wind out of the sails, instead of making those scenes exciting. The dialog just gets lost, almost non-existent in those scenes as well.

    Bogus comparison. I would hope the system that has 2x the Atmos speakers and cost twice as much sounds better. Vizio makes an Atmos system that also sells for 300 and has the same specs as the LG... That would be the true test. Why not compare them both to the Samsung Q950? It's only $1800
    One of the major fails of the vizio (all of them) is having to connect the rear speakers to the sub. This is awful. It makes placing the surrounds where they should go nearly impossible, and the sub must be in direct line of sight with the bar to function. Total fail IMO.

    • @MrRondonmon
      @MrRondonmon 3 года назад

      TBH, what he is saying is true, I have an expert friend at this geek shit (LOL) and what he told me is, if you are trying to attain all these extra channels with a soundbar or even a less expensive receiver, its not really going to work well, and yy would be better off just sticking with a 5.1 system. In other words, if you are going to expand the speakers, you have to expand the power base because each speaker has to be powered separately. Its a core on. In other words, if you truly want great Atmos and you can't quite afford it, just buy one or two pieces at a time or stick with the simple 5.1. Is good enough for small rooms. If you have a large Theatre type room, then by all means go big, but you can't make a purse out of a sow's ear.
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      I just got this from *C-NET*
      You don't really need Dolby Atmos 'height' speakers
      Most receivers in the $500 price range include support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, but the effects they have on your home theater movie watching can be subtle, or in most movies: nonexistent. In other words, don't worry about missing out on these new formats if you don't install an extra height speaker or two. Mounting the rear surround speakers high on the wall will get you halfway there in terms of quality, immersive sound.
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Hearing that, I changed my mind about my Living room (already have a theatre room) and just got the Klipsch 5.1 speaker package, added a 12-inch sub, and used my old receiver, why was still very good. Saved a bundle, and it really rocks.
