- Is the Lems Primal Pursuit one of the best barefoot shoes for the outdoors? Barefoot shoes are great for improving your feet and feeling the earth, but do they generally offer enough protection for harder environments? My thoughts on the Lems Primal Pursuit are evident in this video :) Let me know what you think!

Just picked up a pair of these. Absolutely love this shoe. I think it's a great entry point for those getting into minimalist shoes. I wanted the primal 2's, but figured the pursuits would be better to have first to help transition to the primal 2's. Definitely see these being my new beach running shoe. Also true to size.
Brilliant detailed and informative review.
I’m getting these as my first pair of barefoot shoes. They say you should work yourself into wearing barefoot shoes and the goal is to eventually wear the widest, most flexible shoe in their lineup.
There are not anywhere near being a barefoot shoe. You'd want the Primal 2 if that's what you're looking for.
these are a good intro to barefoot style, if you like it there's plenty of options to go to next!
I’ve been looking forward to this! I talked to Lems customer service and they recommended his pair as their best for mountain biking. Just waiting on their recommendation for sizing. Also fingers crossed there’s a 4th of July sale, these things aren’t on the low end of barefoot shoe prices
hopefully you love them as much as I do!
How’s the durability on the mesh?
Very durable.
Very well done for this review. I wonder how things change with the Primal 3 in regards to variables discussed as compared to Zens and Pursuit, particularly for sizing. I ordered exact same size for all three shoes.
Considering these for trail running. The sizing piece is what's holding me back. I wear a 13 but have narrow heels and a good toe splay (sort of triangular feet). There's no half size to bump up and a 14 has me concerned I'll roll an ankle on a root somewhere in the woods due to the extra room. I may give the 13 a go and cross my fingers I don't need to return them for a 14. Appreciate the thorough review you did here. Take care.
Did you try them running? I'm also considering them for running but have read in the past they aren't great for running.
fwiw Lems returns are pretty painless, i often exchange for different size or just order multiple sizes to start
Nice review! What is your foot length in cm?
Man, wish this was like 20/15 stack height.
Looking for something like that with this type of outsole!
The Pursuit looks awesome, though.
Never mind the shoe. Where didi you score those black/white socks in the thumbnail?? BTW I've been trekking around in the Trailheads, love em.
Thanks for the review! Great timing-I’m waiting on delivery of a pair of Primal Pursuits. The sizing is nuts. 🤪Their chart recommended I go up two sizes based on centimeters. 🤷🏽♀️ I had my doubts and only went up one. Wish me luck! 😄👣👟
I’m happy you found this video! I think you’ll love them! Come back in the comments later on and let me know what you think!
Getting these for flat pedal MTB
Is the tread and sizing on these similar to Boulder Boot Summit?
does the stack height include the insole? What is it if I remove the insole?
So you are telling me that you would have a very low stack height if you are standing and walking on concrete all day long? I walk on concrete all day long for work. Seems like my foot would hurt more at the end of the day with a small stack height? I currently wear Altras but looking to buy some LEMS. Thanks.
Off topic, but…. How do you get your quads defined like that? Thanks
The Lems website shows these shoes as only being available in wide (not extra wide) sizes. I have a pair of Whitin zero drop shoes that are true to size (8.5W) and feel great when I have thin socks on. Unfortunately I wear wool hiking socks most days and the shoes can feel a bit snug on my feet. How does your sock thickness affect the snugness factor of your Primal Pursuits? Does moving the full size up alleviate that problem? I'm looking for a sturdier zero drop natural fit shoe that I can wear for day hiking and to do yard chores.
The Trailhead was too narrow for me, but I love the Boulder Boot. How’s the width compared?
Similar experience to you! I love the Boulder Boot.
After a bit more use, how are they holding up? Have your impressions of them changed?
Not in the slightest :)
So do you think the primal pursuit is a good first pair Lems for an active lifestyle woman? I am wanting a thicker sole
Try Sketcher chusion max.
Even the Primal 2 feels like pretty good cushioning, especially with the insole in. I have those and I find it hard to imagine a more comfortable shoe.
I ended up going with a pair of Altras. I’ve been walking around greece in them and my feet are so happy with zero drop and wide toe box
Too bad those are not available in europe, found a store but everything around size 10 is sold out, also they don't have all models.
Those pursuits look mighty chunky. Thinking I’ll stick with the Trail Head.
I think the Trailhead is by far their best looking shoe, but I found it really narrow and tight. Wish they'd make a version of it with a wider toe box.
The Trailhead is "chunkier" than these, that is their dedicated heavy-duty trail shoe. This one is a hybrid shoe meant to be in between the Trailhead and Primal 2.
is it waterproof?
You do know that "minimalistic" is not a proper term, right?
