This is not a song, this is poetry
Technically a song is poetry. Lyrical poetry. But i can understand what you mean.
@@nahuelconstantine The song is about the Lake District in England and Taylor is celebrating why many of the great poets went there (Wordsworth, Coleridge, Ruskin etc). I think that's why people are referring to "poetry" a lot.
They started out as the same thing to be fair, although yes this song is especially beautiful.

we all know taylor was a poet in her past life
When she said "calamitous love and insurmountable grief" it feels so damn luxurious ✨
"Is it romantic how all my elegies eulogize me"
*Elegies*- sorrowful poems/ speech (in her case, her songs)
*Eulogize*- praise someone in a speech or writing
Meaning of this entire line- She is saying, isn't it beautiful how all her sad songs (about her and for her) end up embracing who she actually is.
Wow that’s absolutely gorgeous... One thing about Taylor is she has always known how to write such wonderful sad songs. Tied together with a Smile, Teardrops on my Guitar, All too Well.
Now that's enlightening
imagine a bee king 👑
Damn, that's deep

I'm not cut out for all these cynical clones
These hunters with cell phones
Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die
I don't belong, and my beloved, neither do you
Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry
I'm setting off, but not without my muse
What should be over burrowed under my skin
In heart-stopping waves of hurt
I've come too far to watch some namedropping sleaze
Tell me what are my words worth
Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die
I don't belong, and my beloved, neither do you
Those Windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry
I'm setting off, but not without my muse
I want auroras and sad prose
I want to watch wisteria grow right over my bare feet
'Cause I haven't moved in years
And I want you right here
A red rose grew up out of ice frozen ground
With no one around to tweet it
While I bathe in cliffside pools
With my calamitous love and insurmountable grief
Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die

Hey I made a rainy version of The Lakes in my channel
This isn’t an album so much as it is an experience, this feels like a spiral of thoughts you have in the quiet night
The Lakes has some of the most beautiful lyrics I’ve ever heard in it. I mean, the way the line “I want to watch wisteria grow right under my bare feet cause I haven’t moved in years” makes me feel is incredible ❤
You should come to the Lakes (they're in Cumbria, Northwest England), you'll get to see the Wisteria and all the Great Poet's houses and the beautiful Lakes themselves. Taylor's lyrics really do ring true, it's very beautiful and calm here.
In her 14 years of career, she experimented and tested her limits. She reinvented herself with each album. Made her album more like an era. She stepped into 3 different genres- country, pop and now alternative. Taking such big risks fearlessly and making masterpieces. I dont find any reason to not stan her! Its a bliss to be born in the same era as Taylor and listen her music. Stan her forever cause i'm a swiftie for evermore.
Beautiful comment. I stan you!
Hip hop too.

She really snapped when people called her childish for the “spelling is fun” lyrics
this is one of my fav songs in Folklore. I can say that it is also a very underrated one. “A Red Rose grew up on some ice frozen ground, with no one around to tweet it” That line claimed that she used to be so present in socmed, tweeting posts and beautiful moments. But in that scenario, she’s living in the moment and just lets her eyes witness that beautiful moment. It also means that she just wants to run away from the life she has here with her muse and just cry out on the windermere peaks as she refers to it as the perfect place to cry. She wants to run away, but she can never escape the life she has here. It will always haunt her because she is Taylor Swift. Despite not being famous, I love how people can relate to this song, including me. The thought that you want to run away from all those things that is bothering you and that our social batteries can be drained too. The song speaks for ourselves. Sometimes, we just want to let it all out and escape social media and everything. She is truly a genius and can make our vocabulary broad than what the school does /j.
Reminds me of the line in Call It What You Want "I recall late November, holding my breath slowly I said, "You don't need to save me
but would you run away with me?"
"a red rose grew up out of ice frozen ground, with no one around to tweet it" this literally defines joe and taylors private relationship
I've been taking some classes on English literature and we recently studied the romanticism movement. Girl, you had all the references in this song. You make me love you more every day. The songwriter of our generation.

Eggsplain
Auroras are the lights in the sky caused by solar radiation that occur at the poles, they very mystical, rare, and beautiful. Sad prose is just another way to say sad writing or a sad story. So she’s basically talking about wanting to feel melancholy and mystical in a way

@Luu mdo very true. Remember that time she went to bat for Ke$ha? I was like girl, yes. She's making culture moves. Feminist action steps.
@@olivethemainpopgirl4704 i always saw you in every comment here. It's funny hahhaahaha
girl!! release the orchestral version of the lakes in celebration of folklore's 1st year!! 🥲🤍
U called it omg
SHE did release some version of it so ur wish came true yay
She played this song on piano in Chicago during the Eras Tour. Forever in my heart
Can we all just say that Taylor has a very, very wide range of rich vocabulary!
Absolutely in love with this song.
The poet of millennials 🖤
I've never improved my vocabulary so much in three minutes
HEYYYY LET'S STREAMMM
why is this song a bonus track when it's literally the most beautiful one on the entire album?? :( I cry everytime with "i want autoras and sad prose..."
it’s special . it’s a bonus track made just for us listeners, taylor decided to gift us with the most beautiful bonus track instead of letting it be overplayed like the songs on the main album
Connie P.....you took the words out of my mouth
SAMEEE
I absolutely love this song, but I’m still a bit iffy on that line. For some reason it sounds pretentious and something else that I can quite put my finger on (edit to add: it just doesn't ring true). I do, however, love the next line: “I want watch wisteria grow right over my bare feet ‘cause I haven’t moved in years.” Absolutely beautiful.
@@IndieCindy3 I personally like that line because I think "auroras" represent beauty, and it pairs nicely with "calamitous love," meanwhile sad prose represents her feelings spoken into words and pairs nicely with the "insurmountable grief" that she feels🌹 They say the most beautiful art comes from those who have gone through the most painful circumstances
Taylor and Joe be the leader of those Dark Academia couples, I just know.
some one finally said it
Underrated comment
not dark academia. Taylor seems more like a cottagecore girl
@@tanviohol6807 both aesthetics are heavily merged with the concept of escapism and this song feels a lot like that
@@meganbayram5092 dark academia isn't escapism tho. Cottagecore is
Folklore is a masterpiece that you can listen to in any season, but it just feels more special when it's raining outside and you're playing this album while slowly sipping hot cocoa beside your window, pondering about what has been and what could be.
Happy anniversary to Grammy 2020's Album of the Year, and actually one of the best albums of all time.
