This is by far the best version of Medusa. Creepy, stealthy, good personality and her design. Everything about this Medusa is perfect.
The close-up of her face and her eyes lighting up when she turns the guy to stone still packs a punch more than forty years later.
This scene scared the hell out of me as a kid!!
EASILY!!! THAT AND THE DOLL IN TRILOGY OF TERROR - IF MY PARENTS KNEW THEY WOULD HAD THOSE MOVIES LOCKED AND LOADED IF I GOT OUT OF LINE!!!
The music is also chilling
I'm honestly terrified of scary/horror movies. But for some reason, I watched this as a kid so many times and didn't scary me. I'm also fascinated with archery and seeing how Medusa was freaking hawkeye and how suspensful this scene is and how strategic Perseus had to be, it's by far exceeds the remake.
@@DarrenWilson-bs8vqand that sfx "AH UHUHUHUH" scary as hell too
Yessss i came to show my sons I remember watching this as a kid I’m 35 I was petrified 😂
The original clash of the titans is still and always will be the best!
Yesss I haven’t even seen the new bc I remember watching this as a kid
Totally the best version so far. That other Medusa was trash
Yet the new bad one gets the 4k release
Style over substance wins again@@Siegfried5846
Over 40 years later this scene is still amazing this version of madusa is scary as hell
bruh its medusa
Ugly as hell too
Yeah
He means its scarier than the new one
I was talking about something else
I hope to see a Medusa movie in my lifetime. She was beautiful once❤
But what would you do if he looked at her??
I watched this several times throughout the 80’s.
It’s amazing how well I remember some scenes, but others I feel like I am seeing for the first time.
Ray Harryhausen made this stop-motion masterpiece that is Medusa. In fact, he created all the monsters in this film. It was his last film work and he closed it with a bang.
Still a great movie. Way better than it’s reboot counterpart. And this version of Medusa is still terrifying.
HANDS DOWN!!!!!!
@@southsideman4891 Hands up actually
@@flargarbason1740 that's for stick ups
How is it better 😂 tha CGI sucks 😂
@@NickN56 stop motion animation looks so much better compared to CGI because Ray Harryhausen used actual props. The man’s a legend for his work.
Even today this scene is still wicked
Incredible animation, fantastic cinematography, brilliant music score and terrifying atmosphere. A masterpiece.
My dad let me watch this in the '90's and Medusa scared and interested me in Greek mythology.
This is my favorite scene from the movie.
I’ll be honest, I like both versions of Clash of The Titans for different reasons.
1981 is a suspenseful, adventure film, and 2010 is an action movie. And nowhere is it more apparent than the Medusa scenes. In 1981, it’s slow but suspenseful, making you wonder if Medusa is gonna find Perseus. 2010, it’s very fast paced with Medusa and the warriors running, jumping, and doing quick attacks.
One is a matter of hiding, the other is a matter of getting it done fast.
Again, I love both for vastly different reasons.
Well me I prefer the 1981 original over the 2010 remake
with this scene…
It really emphasizes the fearful fact that if you look directly
at medusa’s face EVEN JUST ONCE you will be turn to stone
and your life will basically be over immediately (🤌 snap!) just
like that…
And how it was more slower paced building up tension,
the horror and dread, the stakes, and the payoff really does
it for me.
I respect the hustle of the 2010, but I'm sorry I must admit.... I can't stand the jerking stuff that they are doing in movies now. I almost left a movie one time because I was sitting up front and it was making me NAUSEOUS!
A movie like this APPRECIATE the scenery of a film. It gives you a chance to immerse yourself in the scene. I do artwork: let the people appreciate the work that the artist has done. George Lucas took his time and jerked around NO scenes in the original Star Wars in any action scenes, go look at it for yourself. His movies set the standard. He gives you a chance to see this new world.
This hyper nauseating jerky stuff prevalent in basically all action films needs to STOP!
Perseus cut off her head
This is probably ray harryhausen best scene he ever animated, and trust me that's saying a lot!
Respect from France.
I love the sound of that bow!
CGでは絶対に出せない動きと不気味さ。素晴らしい!
Medusa way more dangerous than the kraken.
Especially considering, how her eyes can turn any living creature to stone, even the mighty Kraken isn’t immune to her deadly gaze.
It's funny how current movies make Medusa look all pretty in the face. She was not pretty in the face. She was a hideous Beast
I remember this, when i was like 3-4 years old, my father was watching this movie with me and my friends, i was spooked as hell, like very very spooked, but i kept watching, then my mom came home (she was in the store) and was really mad at my father, then i went to sleep, and i had a nightmare about medusa standing infront of my bed (i slept with my mom at that time) i ran to the living room, crying, screaming...
Masterpiece ever. Greatness
I'm Sooo Glad ,...I saw this at the movies !!!
I liked medusas facial expressions as she crawled around looking for the guys she had a shocked like expression when she saw perseus reflection in the shield(she was thinking ahh now i got him.i dont think so my dear with your hideous face and laser beam green eyes are about to come to an end well at least after you petrify the kraken.)
has
This is one of the best scenes of any movie in history
Here comes the Medusa viper.
It's a way better scene than the 2010 version.
I never understood how she could hit/kill the first soldier when she hasn't even entered the room yet.
There is actually three gorgon sister's in this story in Greek culture. This is movie cut
@@jontodd5462 I know about her sisters
She probably just shot it from behind the columnes
It could’ve been a trap I don’t know
She was positioned upright to the right of the wall she crawled out from afterward.
Why she would put the bow back on her back and crawl forward instead of just slithering forward with it in her hand is the real question. Though I suspect that the original sequence was considerably longer here. They removed the part where she slashed herself with the arrows to posion them but left in the smoke trail from the poisoned arrow in the final film.
That’s not Medusa. That’s actually my ex-girlfriend. And I barely escaped with my life! 🐍🙀
Omg !! You must have encountered a NARCISSISTIC GF 😱🐍
In what way
You need to step up your game bro.
this was so suspenseful and eerie and deep, wheres the remake was all CGI and over-the-top.
Perseus remembers the story of Medusa her vanity using his shield as a mirror stroke of genius with a bit of luck
This medusa is like the one from dota 2 , just without being fed XD
One thing I never understood is how were Perseus’s guards meant to see Medusa when their shields didn’t have a reflective surface inside them likes Perseus’s did ?
They were red shirts. Shed no tears for the.
I don’t know maybe that are reflection still
In the film he tells them use the inside of your shield as a mirror but only his has
Stop motion is so much better than CGI..., more aesthetic, more artistic... They should use it now in a way that improves the dynamics of movement. Amazing film, BTW.
These effects still hold up strong
This used to scare the hell out of me as kid
This scene gave me nightmares when I was kid.
If I looked into those eyes, you wouldn't need to turn me to stone: I'd be frozen with fear, my heart would probably stop beating from terror.
Who used to watch this on TNT or TCM?
I actually feel sorry for medusa, she was a beautiful young woman cursed by the gods, never had somebody to set her free, mis understood and wrongfully accused her faith was cast 😢
Do you know who played her? I've been googling it everywhere but can't find the actress who played the part.
What would you do if you looked at her?
Greek here, I need to clear a misconseption that seems to always follow this mythological creature.
Medusa does NOT shoot beams from her eyes that turn you into stone, nor do you need to look her in the eye.
Just you looking at her is all that takes to turn you into stone, plus she is supposed to be ugly.
This is so much more effective and scary than the remake. It makes use of suspense rather than action.
Essa medusa é assustadora ! Muito bem feita !
Medusa's gaze won't affect anyone who's blind.
I will block everybody on RUclips keep it up
I love this movie
What would you do if you looked at her?
Effing terrifying
🤩🎥⭐ Esse filme é espetacular demais sensacional é dos meus preferidos 🎥🤩🎥⭐🇧🇷💯
Poor Medusa!
So they cut out the part where he lops her head off
Did the first guy she kill fall into a pool of acid since it was bubbling so much when he fell in it?
I used to think so too for a long time but nope. Apparently the arrow was poisoned with Medusa's blood. Medusa's blood is so poisonous it causes water to boil.
It's just water. The arrows are poisoned with her blood. In the original screenplay she would slash herself with them to poison them. They took out that part ( the soundtrack still has that musical cue) but left in the smoke trail from the poisoned arrows. The water bubbled because of them.
I intially thought that that was where she bathed or "used the bathroom" lol! It may have contained some of her blood which might explain how it looks so greenish.
Does anyone know the filming location? I know the entrance is the temple in Paestum, Italy.
Ah yeeees. Evil Medusa
J'ai besoin de titans complet si c'est possible
You guess you're being a bartender you can hire anybody
My chemistry teacher.
Lo mas terrorifico de esta escena es que el montaje al ser tan trucado la hace mas terrorifica aun...
Does anyone know the actress who played Medusa. Can't find her on the credits anywhere
She was a stop motion clay creation
I saw this at the movie theater when I was a kid, I could have sworn Medusa had visible nipples.
IAM done playing games
I love this movie so much and my favorite ray harryhausen movies 💝🏛

One of many things I like about this scene is that Perseus and Medusa are both scared. They both know they're in the fight of their lives.
Great point - you're right
This is how Medusa should be portrayed: horrific, disgusting, animalistic, deadly, unassailable, a true abomination; Harryhausen's finest hour of horror (the cute girl + CGI snake body of the 2010 version is a cartoon next to this)
I honestly think that the 2010 version is more inline with the myth. At least the roman myth. Both movies are incredibly inaccurate to the original myth.
@@jeffreyolivo337 Not really. Medusa was describing as incredibly beautiful, but was cursed to be hideous.
So no, the original film is probably the more accurate, lore wise.
@@MELol-n4h not with Greek mythology.
@@jeffreyolivo337 no, literally with greek mythology.... Im literally have a doctorate in Greek Mythology.... 😂😂😂😂😂
The 81 version is still my favorite
This is my favorite special effect of the entire movie. It's pure GENIUS, and I like it even more than the best CGI. RIP, Ray Harryhausen.
Cool
A TRILLION TIMES BETTER THAN THE CGI REMAKE!!!!!
Wow you made me look him up: this was his last movie!! Incredible!! No wonder these look so great, he had his years of experience go before him! Master artist.
R.I.P. Ray Harryhausen...
Before King Kong, Before Mysterious Island & Before Sinbad Trilogy
@southsideman4891 … If you’ve ever seen Monsters Inc, the sushi restaurant Mike & Celia went to for dinner was called Harryhausen’s (that’s where the name came from!) 😊
She literally has aimbot level skills with that bow. Imagine if Medusa had a gun 😂
Medusa is the original Hawkeye aka Snakeye 😂
Fires arrows like bullets!
She literally has nothing better to do than practice archery.
I can't lie...this thing and the little monster in Trilogy of Terror:
These two scared the mess out of me when I was a kid!
At least to me this version of Medusa is scarier than the version of Medusa in the remake.
In actual Greek lore there was 3 gorgon sister's sleeping and Perseus used a Harry Potter cloak to stay out of sight . He initially didn't wanna kill Medusa because he felt bad for her but she woke up seen him and slash .
It actually wasn't a cloak it was the helm of Pluto or the helm of hades that made him invisible but he didn't wear it until after he cut off Medusa's head and escape from Stheno and Euryale from the original story
This used to scare me so much as a kid
It takes a lot to scare me. That is not what you see every day.
It's 2023 and this is still awsome.
THIS stop-motion version of Medusa makes the one from the 2010 remake look like a cartoonish Girl Scout by comparison! 😆 I remember being so damn intrigued by this version that I used to draw pictures of her all the time when I was a kid! (I even drew one for my 9th grade History teacher, and she actually had it hanging up on her wall for years, lol) ☺️
AMEN!!!
WOW!!!!
RESPECT
That sounds like a wicked cool teacher.
The remake so disappointed me after seeing this multiple times as a child.
@jjrj8568 … Yep, Mrs. Mueller … she was a sweet lady too! 😌 (Idk if she’s even still alive today…) There was one time she took roll-call in class, and out of the blue, one of the students said “Mueller? Mueller?” (like in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) Everyone in class just busted out laughing, and she just had this huge smile on her face after that! 😂 Fun times those were! ☺️
This Medusa will always scare me more than any other version.
In Greek Mythology history Perseus was kind of smart he used his shield Instead not looking at her because he looked at it, closes his eyes and swings his sword and cut off her head
There was also 3 gorgon sister's not Medusa by herself
She was so scary to me. I was always so terrified of her, but also in awe of her. Considering this was the 80s. The way they were able to make her come alive for the movie was pretty awesome!
She reminds me of my Mother, she was a horrid person; but I know it was because life treated her
This medusa gave me nightmares
Watching this as an adult I realize Medusa must have been blind 🤣
After the remake, there are definitely two camps of Medusa fans.
Those who prefer the ugly one and the those that prefer the hot one
This one is more accurate. Medusa was supposed to be horrible looking - cursed by Athena.
What would you do if you looked at her?
its been years since ive watched this and it as scary as ever
By today's standards this looks pretty bad, but for 1981 it was amazing...and VERY scary if you were a kid.
It's still amazing, and bone chilling due to Medusa's jerky, unpredictable movements.
The CGI Medusa in the re-make was the bad looking one. This version is actually scary.
Jim Morrison vs medusa
Reminds me of my ex g/f
One of my fav movies
Another example of the genius and brilliance of Ray Harryhausen.
When growing up..like the other films..I always thought it was a grandad film..I just wanted cartoons and spaceship movies..how minds ..change when u age..its now a classic..no dought will be remade over and over..just like myths..😉
Idk if he felled in acid or boiling water
Probably where she bathed or "used the bathroom." The water was all green and probably contained her blood, which is corrosive
I always wonder why there are sooo many men Greek statues around Greece.
Wow lets cut it off midscene nobody will notice
