Shakeys was the first place I ever drank beer...as a 15 year old dependent in 1974. I got so drunk I puked in the movie theater on Magsaysay watching Zardoz but I loved every minute of it. Dad was stationed at Cubi but retired in 1977 and owned the Casa Del mar compound and Del Mar boat works in Barrio Baretto until 1985. I will never forget my idyllic childhood in the Philippines
That's interesting, my dad was 34 yrs navy retired in 1974, I was the youngest son , he wanted to do his last 2 years in Philippines, me and mom didn't want to go, so went back to San Diego and in 1981 I was in subic as a 19 yr old sailor wow what fun lol
My boat the shittyKitty hit the shores here in 1977. I was a Marine attached to the Kittyhawk and we hit Subic Bay a few times. What a place. When we went to Olongapo it was big boy Christmas. Remember the 11:30 club, Mojo, San Miguel beer, $hit river, and the live music was great. They sounded just like 70's bands.
I was at the Lower MEF camp from Feb to May 1991 (Spent January at Upper MEF with the MAGTF) with 9th ESB Charlie Company as their radio repairman (2841), and floated some gear w/ CSSD 35, so we may have crossed paths back then.
...only 3 months before Mt Punatubo blew it's top June '91 forever changing the course of Clark and Subic installations. You saw the last of the good times.

You might be referring to Cory Aquino when Marcos was ousted
Might want to Google your history on that ..
I was there whent they locked the base down, in 86' I recalled still being able to get out on Liberty @@pakul1981
Aquino was sworn in as the eleventh president of the Philippines on February 25, 1986.
