River: Why are you sad?
Doctor: Why are you sad???
Why am I sad😭😭😭😭
we're all sooooo sad
at least it's together
Me; I'm not tearing up there's something in my eye
Sans: *what's in your eye?
Me: T E A R S
It's so heart breaking that she was asked who she was by the man she loved... so many times
Wolfania she is my favorite of all favorites. I’ve actually never thought about it from her perspective before tho. It’s actually devastating.
It shouldn't break your heart, because it's not as if he forgot, the timelines are just out of sync. It's actually quite beautiful how the man you love and married wants to get to know you better. You know those people who wish they could go back and relive those first moments? She got that.
Sam Flynn she didn’t relive those first moment though! From her perspective it just feels like they’ve forgotten you. And sure, she knows that not true. Sure, you get to know about him when he doesn’t know you. But do you realise. Can you understand? She said he didn’t love her. She believed it completely. She doesn’t think that it hurts for him, because it can’t. Because if it hurts him, worlds will suffer. She is the knight. The one who must die to keep the king safe. She doesn’t even consider her on the same level as him. She’s no queen. Not in her mind.
Whether that’s true or not doesn’t matter. It’s how she feels and it kills her. But she can never confide in anyone because no one is there to listen and if they are they are never around for Long.
@@samflynn97 Yeah, but it still hurts. When they look at you like everyone else, or with suspicion and anger. It's like they don't really see you.
They don't know you.
I mean, yeah, logically you get it, but it still hurts.
In a sense it must be like an analogy of watching a lover slowly disintegrate from Alzheimer's. It's devastating but it doesn't mean that you love them less. Doesn't even mean that they love you less- just that you are burdened with doing all the remembering.
On the other hand, she did enjoy teasing him (she always had the upperhand of foreknowledge), & she already knew that he forgave her for killing him. And she absolutely knew that if she called, he would be there. It is actually hard to make the case that she never believed/knew that he loved her- especially after he told her his name & married her. Unless it was a kind of willful blindness.
She was angry that he used a regeneration to heal her hand- & although the case could be made that he felt guilty for causing the pain & after all it was HER regen energy that he used- he still gave up a LIFE to heal a scratch. Talk about throwing your coat over a puddle! That is more than Chivalry demands.
The only reason her denial works for the Christmas special is because she doesn't recognize him. She doesn't recognize him because she is not looking for him because she doesn't know he has any regen left. She must think that all that is left of The Doctor is his past selves in the current universe. That also explains why she has not sought him out for however many years.
It also fits the tone of his greeting when he recognizes her on the gangplank- his voice is boisterous but more like greeting a casual drinking buddy than a long-lost beloved wife. (It was the only thing I found out of place in Capaldi's performance.) In the first minutes he protects & shields her in a way that speaks of long acquaintance but she doesn't catch on. (He is positively savage when he yells, "you won't touch her!" But even before a few minutes of watching him tease her in an effort to make her recognize him- it was obvious that he cared deeply when he looked at her in the snow. In fact, that could be said to be the moment that he realizes that their timelines have synced up. It is the Crossroads. For the first time his present is her present, she does not have foreknowledge. In fact the whole episode is her being oblivious & him finally realizing that she was a person who needed the words as well as the actions. But the audience is never in any real doubt that he loves her.
The Doctor also must never have questioned that she knew- since she always had foreknowledge of their relationship before he did. Since he told her whatever undisclosed secret brought her to the realization that SHE was River Song. EVERYTHING he does is predicated on the idea that she knows. Which means that, for him, every single, "I hate you." "No you don't." is 'I love you.' & 'I love you too.' That level of miscommunication would make anyone sad who spent as much time & adventures together as the previous Doctors & River did- to the point where if she truly DIDN'T KNOW- then shame on her.
The only time that claim would be valid is when she meets the 10th Doctor. He actually didn't love her because that had just met, but within seconds they are each aware of who the other is & why this is important.
That moment when you realize The Doctor had The Singing Towers built for River even though he absolutely never wanted to take her there.
The Dorilium Dilemma
I don't think he had the towers built for her, they were already there. He just told the man that it would be a good idea to build a restaurant and viewing area to listen to them.
That made me so sad. Because the Doctor taught me that it's ok to *hate* that things end. But they have to anyway. Thank you for this marvelous piece of art.
Thank you!
I think she needs a spinoff
nathan mckenzie do you mean... Ms Frizzle?
nathan mckenzie she got one :) well it’s an audio....
Somehow I wish she never gets one, because her story is just perfect as it is...
Giving her a spin off would break all the mystery this character has. This is what I think.🤔
She has an audio series of sorts. The Diary of River Song. I don't think it'd be ending any time soon.
The “Goodbye Sweetie” followed by silence and a view of the Doctor’s saddened face killed me.
Amazing vid btw
As much as I love Love LOVE David Tennant (who completely replaced my first Doctor, Tom Baker; as great as Baker was); Matt Smith is an AMAZING actor! He played the Doctor SO perfectly, and nowhere better than the "I always hear you" scene... SO expressive ... so heartbroken and heartbreaking... (My husband's death at 60 is all wrapped around River Song and Doctor Who in my heart and mind and life -- when he died, I was watching Silence in the Library for the ... I dunno, one-hundredth time... All the River scripts catch that ... old, lost love, losing love, grieving, ... even as funny as they can be... it's all in there.) This video was wonderful.
I'm crying all the tears I could possibly cry. The Doctor and River's love story will always gonna be one of my favourite. Thanks for this amazing video!
Thank you!
❤
She is the best character written for a role that never asked to be cast. Brilliant, and only going stronger.
How her story was cleverly woven through so many stories was a milestone in excellent writing.
Самая лучшая женщина для Доктора. Жаль что ее нет больше в сериале ((((
Wonderful video! I've watched it repeatedly since finding it. That part at 6:09 hits so hard when you compare it to the Doctor questioning River whether she would truly suffer more than every living thing in the universe if she had to kill him. All those years later, he's finally making his own all-or-nothing proclamation of love, and he truly means it.
This is sooo good! The Doctor and River are my fave couple. Wish this included that scene with 12 when Nardole comes and reads to 12 from River's diary that whole speech about kindness and sacrifice - it brought a tear to my eye! Then he says she gave Nardole permission to kick 12's ass... lol
Omg I love this so much, River was such a great character, her storyline with the doctor was amazing and you did an amazing job with this video ! This is really beautiful
Thank you very much!
that was seven minutes of heaven (albeit a sad, angsty heaven) but i just want to thank you for giving that heaven to me.
Thank you so much!❤
Margarita Life + River and the Doctor.... Why I even click this!? 😭😭😭😭😭♥️😢
Thanks!)
MichelaA Exactly! You come here with your heart intact and leave with it shattered in a million pieces
As always, you have produced a truly phenomenal work! Thank you for bringing this to us! I only wish we could have more of River! 😭
Thank you so much!
River and eleven were perfect ... Please release a dvd with the adventures of River Song ! I need to see more of them!
This is the best and saddest Story of all time. This was so brilliant!
I’m not crying, you’re crying 😭
Even 5 years later, after watching this over and over again, this still makes me cry. This is so heart warming and heart breaking at the same time. When he met her, she already knew him. They had already had a whole life together. This man who was her husband and the love of her life had no idea who she was. And when she met him, he still didn’t know she was his wife. But he knew her. That she was someone so important. This woman he would one day teach to fly the TARDIS, and tell her his name. Imagine what it did to him, to meet this woman who knew his most important secret. One that could rip open the fabric of time and space. And imagine what it did to her. This man who she grew up hearing stories about, who she hunted down, and when she finally found him, he already knew her. It makes your head spin. But it is one of the best love stories ever.
This is so beautiful and so sad and omg I love them!!! Also, I totally know that she got a perfect closure and everything, but I really wanna see her with 13. It would just be too amazing! I hope they bring her back, even though I know it would be bad to meddle in her timeline
Years passing i realise that it's always the best love stroy i've ever seen in a tv show, and you perfectly picture it.
Every new River adventurer makes Silence in The Library all the sadder.
The ultimate love tragedy... she sees him for the last time. . .she loves him so much... and the man she loves sees a stranger. I've known someone with Alzheimer's and it broke my heart when they forgot me. I can only imagine the strength River had. The water cuts through mountains when given enough time. Her ironic patience for his love wasn't so ironic while knowing true love will end when finally grasped. A perfect tragedy
It is one of the most tragic stories as both have hardships, River is constantly dealing with the fact that every time she sees the Doctor (up until the last night) he has less knowledge of who she is and she will eventually find him when he has no idea who she is but it is also I feel even worse for the Doctor in one particular light, as he gets to know and fall in love with her completely just when he truly is happy with her...he has the constant knowledge that she will die soon and he knows exactly when and how.
This is by far the best The Doctor/River compilation I have seen yet. I'm bawling.
You do so well at breaking my heart with these videos
When River is confiding in Rory she is confiding in her father he just doesnt know yet.
wow, I think this is the best video of them, you summed their relationship so well! It's AMAZING! Really, it doesn't even feel like a 7 minutes video :O
I have never cried for sad movie and sad scenes but that's make me cry
Не думал, что буду плакать сегодня
The passing of River out of the series was the passing of good Doctor Who. Everything seams trivial which I guess is why Chibnall phoned in 3 seasons.
I thought I left a comment on this video I guess I didn't this is a great video thank you
Thank you very much!
Oh my God. Just rip out my heart and play music with it's strings!
This was so well put together and it hurts!
Never say never. If the Doctor can live that long with that lifestyle, it's not impossible. It's just a matter of when or if ever the writers want him to be happy.
This brings me to tears each time I watch this.
The best couple on a TV show ever; I love them so much.
Can anyone spare a tardis this. Story is one time line I would alter for the doctor and all whovians sake. Matt and River deserved more time. Another doctors story that tore at my heart. Love you sweetie!
*inhales* okay... (Presses play button)
7 minutes & 11 seconds later...THE FEELS! THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL BUT SO SAD! 😭❤💔
And we were saddened over his loss of rose. They had such a deep bond and seemed to be so much in love.
But then he met River. Maybe it wasn't love at first when he asked her to marry him but there was a lot between them even if he didn't know it yet. She perplexed him and roused his curiosity and that drew him to her. He grew to love her in the end. Even if she hadn't realized it yet. What courage and strength she had to love someone with all her heart and soul while believing she wasn't loved in return. How many of us could live with that? What a sad and beautiful love story this turned out to be.
это шедевр
Спасибо!
You should've put the library ending scene at the end.
So many memories, it's too sad what was the life and death and River Song, fulled with so many happiness :')
Aargh, that was SUCH good writing!!! Miss that storyline.
they will always have my hearts. 💕
That was wonderful and heartbreaking. So well done.
-] (going to see all the season again)
Remember when writing for shows was good?
everytime I think a little too intensely about their love story I feel like physically throwing up because its implications are gut-wretching
I’ve always been so confused about the timeline of the doctor and river but after watching this video I finally understand it
Also I actually never really liked river but this video has changed my opinion on her drastically so thanks for that
Im crying so hard right now
Great video, the tears are flowing.
I can't imagine any other actress, playing this role. Alex Kingston is the best river song.
Amei este video!
I love River Song more than I did Rose and her Doctor. River Song traveled more times through space, time and even death to save the Doctor on many occasions just to tell him, "I can't watch you die." and only once did he tell her 'I love you.' But it was enough... it was.
I'm honestly crying right now
I'm crying sm right now😭😭♥️
You made me cry before going to work..
Oh look I’m crying
Bellissimo video.
Adoro River, dalla prima volta
I'm locked up in the bathroom crying over this video
The is a short where 11 takes for the last for the last night which contradicts 12 taking her out for the last night.
The most heart breaking romance in fiction.
Every time I see this, I wind up crying like a baby. 😩
Magnifique vidéo ! )
Thank you!
Wonderful!
Thank you!
É um vídeo maravilhoso. ❤
Beautiful.
When river says that the doctor never loved her, he was in the back like "girl wut"
Such an underappreciated couple
this was so so good
River looks a lot like my English teacher , I don't like my English teacher but rivers story was one of the best and saddest part of new who
i like your video style.please keep doing like this videos
Awesome
Having started Doctor Who in season 5 because 1 - 4 are not on German Netflix, watching River's first appearance on the show will be devastating (if I ever get my hands on some copy of Tennant's seasons). I love her. I don't want to see her go. Her romance with the Doctor (especially Eleven) breaks my heart and makes me really happy, it's my favourite "straight" couple on TV (although straight might not be accurate becauseI will defend bi River and pan Doctor until I die). Oh what I would give to see River meet Thirteen! And how I wish we could get a spin-off based on River Song, the time-travelling archaeologist!
Ayo Doctor who geek check
Yes
This is amazing love it
Thank you!!!
Nice Video. :)
Thank you!
Amazing. I miss them.
The feeeeeeeeels !!
This is the most beautiful love story😭😭💔😍
"YOU'RE ARGUING LIKE AN OLD MARRIED COUPLE"
WELL HONEY, THAT'S A SPOILER
Except the Doctor and River were never married.
@@gaynor1721 um but-
No?
@@gaynor1721 yes they were
Gaynor have you been watching the same show?
@@ahnyoonjin2720 Um, but yes!
One of the most well written romances in fiction, and nothing can change my mind on this.
River is one character I'll probably never get over, saying good-bye to her was hard.
Timeturner - River's story was just brilliant screenplay writing. And knowing about it, for years befor it finally fully unfolded must have been one of those times, when being an actress is even more spectacular.
Remember when she dies in the library and we didn‘t knew this all?
Saying goodbye to her is the first thing we did. 😞
and we didn't even know we loved her when we had to say goodbye :(
RIVER IS MY FAVOURITE DOCTOR WHO CHARACTER AND NOTHING WILL CHANGE MY MIND!!!
ONE MORE THING I WANT HER AND THE NEW DOCTOR TO MEET! BECAUSE I NEED HER BACK OK!
'Does it hurt?'
'Yeah. The wrist is pretty bad too.'
That kills me, and it clearly bothers Eleven too.
Never let him see the damage
"All this time you knew how I was going to die" oh god that was a punch to the gut times twelve
Imagine having that burden on you your whole life
Remember she never actually dies. The 10th doctor put her into the Library to save her. And that’s where she is.
@@katykat9327 Well, Spoilers ahead
She later dies for real just before the doctor enters his own time stream.
Alex Kingston wrote a River Song book FYI.
Dear God. When River starts explaining what happened the last time she'd seen the Doctor, side by side with her and Capaldi's episode together was just so heartbreaking. The Doctor (especially evident with the 12th) loved her so much and it hurt him so much to let her go. And that's the worst part. He hates endings, but he rarely knows exactly when they'll happen. This time, though, he knew from the beginning, yet he couldn't help it and fell in love with her, all the while knowing that one day, he'd never get to see her again. God, it just hurts to see it.
He not only knew that she'd die, but that their love is exactly what kills her in the end... That's even worse.
I think his moment of realization of that (because he was joking throughout) was when she's going on her tirade, he's trying to get her attention and finally goes "Hello sweetie "
I mean, she's still there, in the database.
@@Phos67 she isn’t in the data base anymore. She moved on after saying goodbye to 11 before he went into his time stream. She was suppose to fade away/disappear/be erased a long time ago but was too stubborn to go without seeing the Doctor one last time for a goodbye. (It explains in that episode) her fading away is her finally moving onto the afterlife. At least how I see it.
"if you ever loved me, say it like you're going to come back"
And He did it.
And I cried because he was saying "I love you" to her for the first and last time
I think the Doctor meant "I love you" in the Darrillium when he said to River "no one else on this ship is worth you."
@@tuuli4002 also the "there's always a song" quote, he made a whole analogy with the towers saying they went through so much and ppl couldn't expect it to love anything back bc of it but always when it (he) least expected and needed the most there's a (river) song. it must be my favorite way he ever told someone he loved them
100% same for me. I'll never forget that moment. Plus with the Towers soundtrack... simply masterful@@brunaeduarda3926
Just imagine, the one you love the most in the whole universe, keeps saying “who are you?” You think it’s fine. You act like it’s fine. But it hurts. It hurts each time you look in those eyes.. those ever changing eyes... and you don’t see the same love. You don’t feel the same love. Your emptying out your emotion and love into someone who you can never truly be with...
Just imagine..
But as River says to Amy, "Never let them see the damage."
Its like loving the stars themselves. You dont expect the sunset to admire you back!
But finally she meets the Doctor in a time they both know each other. He gives her 24 years then. More than she ever thought or expected to get from him. And he finally tells/shows her how much he loves her with that action alone.
River has one of the most powerful character introductions I've ever seen, in the space of two episodes you get this sense of such a long relationship filled with emotion. What a beautiful character.
I don’t care about rose and the doctor
THIS IS WHERE IT’S AT
I just don't see the chemistry between these two, which is sad considering it is a huge part of the 11th doctors rein. I love both of these characters individually but it feels wrong to see them in a romantic capacity, just because you don't see the build up of the relationship (in my opinion) and we are pushed straight into them being a married couple sort of vibe with no proof of their time spent together. Basically their relationship could've been written much better or we could have at least ad an episode or more with just the two of them (11th doctor & river).
@@jessiea893 honest, in my opinion of course, I really felt the relationship between River and 11th a lot. I think they are amazing together
@@dayuerrr7113 good for you! I wish I could but theres no harm I wishing it was better written as it means it would've been even better for all the hardcore shippers to see episodes of just the two!
@@jessiea893 you got to realize the point of doctor who isn't to mainly revolve on rom com like with rose and 10th doctor. That was a big part of why i didnt like 10th. The script for the other parts were amazing, David's acting was amazing, and so were the other companions. I like that river and the doctor romance wasnt the main point of the seasons. I see it differently and i do admit 11th had bad episodes too. There are rose and 10th doctor shippers and there are river and 11th plus 12th shippers. Rose wouldnt work with 11th and 12th at all but river for me worked with 10th, 11th, and 12th. Depending on the timeline of river growing she worked better with 11th on 50% and 50% for 12th.
@@sushiluvrluvzme but whatever was between between rose & 10 was never the main part of the series/ revolved around a rom com. Of course it was in there and hinted at but nothing was explicit, until doomsday and even then it was showing two people who were incredibly close being separated which works in creating an emotional exit for rose. Also just a comparison, the whole river and doctor relationship was completely a rom com and so overtly obvious like you have more 'relationship' moments between river & the doctor than you ever do between rose & the doctor!
My point is that I feel more attached to rose & 10 because you actually saw them travel together whereas with river and the doctor we were meant to believe they're married and have this deep connection clearly suggesting something much more serious than rose & the doctor but yet we barely see them together! We were always told of their adventures together but never got to see them... why?
"How long is a night on Darillium?"
**tiny smile**
"Twenty-four years.."
**visible relief/joy**
"I hate you!"
"No.. you don't."
🥺
one of my favourite saddest moment is in The Impossible Astronaut, when River asked The Doctor to trust her, and he just scoffed at the idea and laughed at her face. River's pained expression when he turned away...oof.

The Name of the Doctor
Wasn't she also the young girl that lived in the Silence-infested orphanage in Day of the Moon, which would also make her the young girl trapped in the spacesuit in both episodes of that two-parter?
Wait? How after the Silence in the library?
FreshX she wasn’t physically alive in the name of the doctor
@@asherpikesgoldenmoralcinem5770 how?
Edit: i know but how was she present there if she wasnt alive
FreshX technically she’s not dead, in the library she was uploaded onto a databank so technically she is just information wandering around ya know. But not physical, I guess over time she found a way to travel or something, I mean she woudnt just sit in the library she would find a way off the planet-even though she was saved as simple info to a hardrive in the library, info can be moved. (That’s my theory) so somehow she ended up in name of the doctor. Not physically alive but as info, and no one else could see her but the doctor and that’s cause she wasn’t even there she was just info.
My feels returned for river song. I miss and love river song. I wish they brought her back. 😢😭 BEAUTIFUL JUST BEAUTIFUL
the storyline has been wrapped up. which is good. but bad
Thank you!
+ShadowHunter so was Clara's but they kept bringing her back
Shayla Nash they brought her back once. What do you mean?
ismael1235100 I really want her to be in JUST ONE of Jodie’s episodes! I would live for it!
Now this is the kind of writing Dr. Who sooo desperately needs now. Think about it; this a consistent, well thought out, heartbreakingly beautiful piece of writing that’s flowed across 9 seasons, portrayed by 3 different doctors! It’s really, in terms of staying on topic and consistent, a monumental feat of writing as the story is non-linear.
Your so right and we’ll never have another Great Doctor and team of writers again. The new writers and the she who just isn’t cutting it….
River thought the Doctor didn’t love her but she didn’t know it was because he wouldn’t let himself. He knew since the day he met her, she would be the woman he trusted the most in the world and that she would die. That she was already dead.
I seriously didn't realise it was seven minutes long until it finished... It's so sad but so sweet
When Matt said your always here to me and I always here you and always listen I started to cry 😢😢😭😭
Daisy Huxley Yes, when I first heard him say that in the episode, it bought so many emotions and feels
Back story,my son was the same age as Matt Smith when he became the Doctor, only my son was killed in an industrial accident. When everything else went off the rails I could depend on the Doctor to deliver me to a safe place away from the pain. I came away little by little until it was endurable but only because I was so wrapped up in Matt's portrayal of the Doctor and the wonderful cast that went with him on his adventures. This made him my favorite along with the rest of the cast. Thank you for keeping me safe. Blessings on you all. A devoted fan.
Sorry for your lost. I feel the same way like you. D Dr kept me safe in times of need.
Sorry for your loss. I lost my mum unexpectedly. I now have her Dr who dvds. I watch them to try and forget the pain.
❤️
Sorry for your lost 😔
I'm sorry for your lost. I'm glad the Doctor was able to help you in some ways. I feel the same way when in my most depressive moments. 11th Doctor, SJ, and music helped me cope.
The doctor and river in general make me so happy but twelve and river complete me💙
"Doctor, please tell me you know who I am?"
"Who are you?"
Those words are so heartbreaking and I just cry because I watched David Tennant's Era after watching the Eleventh doctor and the Twelfth so I knew exactly who she was to the Doctor and seeing the Doctor not recognize who River was to him broke my heart and killed me.
