  • In this video I demonstrate how I clean fresh frozen pollen by winnowing.
I don't dry my pollen; I clean it after freezing and sell it as fresh frozen.
Personally, I find the flavor and texture of dried pollen disgusting. Fresh frozen is much more pallatable.

I have trapped thousands of pounds of pollen. I used to use a professional seed cleaner when I was a young man. Now I use about a gallon and a half stainless steel bowls .I used two of those and I pour from one to another outside with a little bit of a breeze or a fan if there's no breeze at all. I use a plastic table like you are in the video. But I'm doing a lot of pollen at a time at least one gallon at a time I don't sell it to listen 20 to 25 dollars a pound. Sell it in a glass jar not in a plastic baggie. A bag let it roll around too much ,and the grains break up. Good luck, maybe I need to make some videos on how I do it and on my traps I have been doing it for over 40 years

Thank you Gus! You share so much helpful info! Very informative videos.
Quick question, what "best by" time-frame do you recommend to customers to use up the pollen by if they keep it in the fridge?

      I haven’t been recommending a date.
But, I had a bottle I used personally, kept in the freezer 2 years before I used it up.

@@gusmitchellcranesnesthoney6529 Sounds good Gus. I guess if I ever get to collecting and selling it here in central Kentucky, it's best to tell people to keep it in the freezer. (Looking forward to meeting you at the Hive Life Conference if you're planning to be there)
      Thanks!

When you get done with it put it in the deep freeze and it will be good and definitely don't just leave it out.

Thanks for video, have a half bucket of pollen I collected this week and is in the freezer. We did some last year and we have a small freeze dryer and the pollen comes out nice. How do you market and sale it?

Thanks, Gus. Not too bad a process but like you said, tedious and time consuming.

I have a question but it’s not about pollen. I have a queen that is laying, but, the eggs aren’t developing into Larvae, I have waited over a week and no change to the eggs, they remain white and look like normal eggs, but?????? Do you have any input that may help?

Not really, make sure there are young nurse bees, and don’t be afraid to pinch her head off if she don’t straighten up

Do you dehydrate the pollen so I doesn't clump and so it has a longer shelf life or is that not necessary?
