I found Velarok among the free legendaries before the buff and was like , "THREE cards from other classes? While this is in hand? Are they serious? Heck, the reward is good but if it needed one card it would at least be playable ..." I guess that was quite an understatement on my part.
Velarok once gave me 3 death knights in a row and i was in position that i could play them in a row and then tess. Truly no idea what she was capable of
i bought the reward track for velarok and i don't regret it. the discover pool in wild is insane and i love the fact that you can discover almost every card from another classes heroes included. sadly titans cannot be discovered but its alright

@@blackholesun4942 It used to be a meta deck in Standard and even got nerfed a bunch. These days it can still function pretty well. Mage has plenty of spells that make minions and lots of burn to send to face. All amplified by Incanters Flow to be cheap. You also have Deck of Lunacy variants that hard mulligan for Deck of Lunacy and meme around by scamming out high cost spells.
@@blackholesun4942 there's a couple mage cards like Apexis Blast that have additional effects if played when you have no minions in deck, C'thun the Shattered is a legendary minion that at the start of the game "breaks" into 4 specific spells and shuffles them into your deck, once you play them all they shuffle the minion itself into your deck, the synergy comes from the fact that you can technically run a minion and still get the benefit from Apexis Blast
@@blackholesun4942 that's actually an existing archetipe, some mage cards get extra effect if your decks has no minions in it. And since c'thun the shatered has an "start of the game" effect where it turns into 4 spells that need to be played for the minion to be shuffled on the deck, you can have him as your only minion card without losing the sinergies of the deck.
Usually when I build a 1 minion deck, I add Witchwood Piper for consistency, but Dark Portal + Rafaam is quite fun, even though it wins an astounding total of 0 games

5:49 Technically, "Played" happens before Battlecry. That's why Objection! will prevent a Battlecry since Objection! triggers on playing a minion countering it before it can get to its Battlecry. Thus, it could actually be possible for Velarok to transform, enabling the "If you have a dragon in hand" Battlecry from the card that transformed him. Whether it does or not, would need testing.
Oh yeah, I never noticed he’s a “when” rather than an “after” trigger. You can see him transform before the healing spell starts resolving, for example. However, targeted battlecries are another issue entirely. That battlecry won’t pull out the targeting reticle in that circumstance, so it won’t work as a side effect of that.
btw, I think Smolderthorn might choose a target randomly. Smolderthorn and Spinetail Drake are the only two targeted battlecries that will also transform Velarok, and I'm not arsed enough to try and generate that specific dragon, but if someone wants to go for it I don't think the answer is clear cut!
Every time it zooms in on the discovers, I’ve been conditioned to think that means some amazing card has been offered.

I just tested this, got a Crazed Netherwing in hand and an untransformed Velarok and no other dragons. Netherwing did in fact activate.
