Didn’t the Russians say they did the first rendezvous?
They said they did but the Russians just launched their spacecraft so they would pass close to each other. In reality, the Russians only got close enough to have radio contact. The Americans got within a foot and maneuvered around each other.
Plus US had the first T-top capsule
