I like where this very young ILL team is at. The TO rate improved and we won the rebounding battle, now if we can work on FT shooting we could have possibly won this game. They're definitely making strides.
When I played high school basketball our coaches made us all shoot free throws for one hour at the end of practice every night. We got to where we hardly missed.
Your high school team was preparing to play a bunch future farmers and insurance salesmen not future NBA players. You don’t allot an hour to free throws. The players need to be working on that on their own time.
We gave up 100 and everyone’s talking about free throws. And blaming the Coach on top of it. These are d1 athletes and it’s the coaches fault they are missing unguarded shots? I lose brain cells every time I read these comments
@Trav_is56 a hour is excessive for free throws and i agree that the players can practice in their own time but shooting free throws and getting to be better than 80% for every player is why you will win games. Don't make them and your going to lose close games.
I was surprised at no mention or question asked, regarding Morez. The eye test was pretty obvious. The tenor of the game changed when he was in. I understand Tomislav has really exciting potential, but he is currently throwing up bricks, giving up wide open 3s and getting us killed on PnR defense. Morez should not be overlooked or not featured just because of Tomislav’s potential. Morez is already a difference maker and was not only able to hang with Bama but he was making plays at the rim. I’m good with not seeing anymore TW iso moments. Give Riley and DGL a big chunk of the minutes at the 3
Nah I was saying this to my dad that morez has just objectively been the better player against higher offense teams and Tommy just gets beat every time
One thing about Brad is his teams never make free throws. I seriously can't figure out how that even happens. Also the offense is 4 guys standing and one guy playing 1v1.
I agree free throw shooting has been a lost art for the ILLINI! I think in the last 2 or so minutes 4 maybe 5 charity shots were missed. Against a team like Alabama That can't happen. Ball handling has to get a lot better and the big guys need to notice where the bigs are on the opposite side of the ball. Too many ally oops for esy 2's. Overall I still think once the mistakes are worked out and the ILLINI learn how to shoot 3 or 5 footers again, we'll be competitive..
Not even gonna listen but when you openly walk twice out front in the game with refs staring at you. Or camp 4 sec doing 80 pump fakes. Im sure zebras had the money line ? Does anyone audit that. ..read my comments. Good defense doesn't merit jack snow. When you can walk all game. Nice outscoring them 2nd half . Think the boys learned a great amount. About themselves and how slight calls can kill you. So go up by ten. That way you can't be out done. Nice yet improvements definitely needed. Coach will fix that..heads up Elites.
Is it the players or coaching. Over 40 years following Illinois basketball, and have played years of basketball, his offense is garbage. Year after year I see the same thing. Three players time after time find a spot behind the arc, and literally stand there like their feet are nailed to the floor, waiting to shoot a low percentage shot. The announcers pointed out how Alabama has two guys rush to the basket as soon as it’s shot. Illinois players stand there like spectators most of the time. JK is not a point guard. He had half the turnovers(6) for the entire team and as many as all of Alabamas starters. The missed free throws are just unacceptable. You will have a game or two when you are off, but this is a consistent problem will Underwood’s teams. Illinois also gives up to many uncontested shots. That’s why good teams always make more 3’s than Illinois. I get it, this team is young, has a complete new roster, but there is not one pro on this team. In a couple years maybe, but either the players or the coach has to be smarter at the game. At this point I see them as a bubble team for the tournament. Duke, Arkansas, Tennessee are better coached and have more talent and the better teams in the big ten will eat their lunch. Unless things change, expect this team to be middle of the road at best. Then we will go through another roster upheaval.
And to think there was so much chatter last year about a lifelong contract for BU....what a joke! Nobody can make a damn FT. At least we have Shauna Greene. Underwood needs to sit in on her practices and learn how to win.

Funny how he said the exhibition don’t matter this year.. but last year when we beat Kansas it was like we won the national championship 🤣🤣
Well, that was Kansas after all

Is any of your allotted salary go towards teaching kids how to make a FT?

Completely agreed.
That sounds like 22-23, not last year.
@@DonSmith-w8g last year at the beginning free throws weren't good.

Well that’s Tomislavs fault for the ally oops
Why don’t they ever ask him the right questions? Like why have your teams never been able to shoot free throws?

Please practice free throws

“His offense is garbage.” They’re currently the 7th-best in offensive efficiency in the nation. #2 is Alabama. Chill tf out and let Brad coach.

Shauna Green is in the process of making WBB a regular top 10 team.
