A made an arch from a cattle panel and put a muck bucket on each side with the vines in them. It was easy to weave them through the panel. You can plant stuff under the arch, or have a wedding. Lol. Your choice.
I love that idea, and we have talked a good bit about getting cattle panel to put between some of our raised beds. How easy was it for you to transport the panel?
Yeah, I was wondering if I should cut the vine! The slips are growing like crazy and I don’t know what I should do because it’s my first time growing them from slips
I have never grown sweet potatoes. I would like to try some this fall, see if I can get a late winter or early spring harvest. I’m not sure if it will work here in South Carolina but I’m up for experimenting.
You should! How low does your temperature get during the winter? Last season we tried growing sweet potatoes indoors. Here are a couple of the videos that document the initial setup ruclips.net/video/b1CTrySsyXQ/видео.html and the results ruclips.net/video/C6ocSb8e6-w/видео.html.
@@GutenGardening thanks!!! I’ll check those out. Our temps might get into the high 20s but that’s in late January real early February. Our first frost date is Nov. 9… so I MAY be able to squeeze a good crop in time if I plant early/mid August🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
@@StubbsMillingCo. If you have the space and the sweet potatoes available, I would plant them ASAP. It will take some time for the plants to get establish and the warmer months would guarantee better sweet production.
Have you got any extra tips for someone who's growing sweet potatoes in pots? I bought two different types (purple and orange-ish) and just let grow, each in their own plastic pot (about 18" at the top), the vines didn't form any extra roots and while the purple type produced a couple of sweet potatoes, the orange-ish type only got me a single one. I already did the same thing last year with just one pot (purple kind), the pot was completely filled and there were so many vines, no idea what went wrong this year. :/

I’ve got 2 vining varieties in my GreenStalk & I’m using their plant supports to train the vines around. It’s working really nicely so far!
That's great!
Nice maintenance ideas!
I am growing some of my sweet potatoes vertically this year…very helpful hints!
Wonderful!

@@GutenGardening easy in a truck. Fold in half and tie the ends together. It will be shaped like a tear drop. Slide it into truck.
love the video - learnt something new
Hello, have you found that keeping vines lenghts to 4ft long produces more or less sweet potatos?
Thanks
Frank

If cutting the tips off will it create smaller potatoes?
Does curting the end off make bigger potatoes?
can anyone recommend any other wisconsin gardening channels?
Very young leaves are steamed and eaten with tomatoes and onions.
recipe?
The leaves are the healthest, the potatoes are toxic!
