Jumpsuit Drum Tutorial - Twenty One Pilots

As requested, here's a drum tutorial for Jumpsuit by Twenty One Pilots. I really dig the drum part in this song - it compliments that dirty riff in the chorus nicely and also stays interesting enough in the verses. There are a few little challenges in there, but pause and rewind the video as much as you need until you can jam along! Enjoy!

Just a thing I've noticed. Whenever the main riff comes on, I think josh plays crotchet open hi-hats instead of crashes. I think it helps the the song move better and when the 1st verse transitions to the 2nd riff, it helps that section feel more heavy.

natalie c well it depends on what you mean by I just start playing. Yesterday? Last week? Last month? And so forth. If you are absolutely a beginner I would not recommend going for heavydirtysoul like someone said, it will be too challenging and confusing. You should start with something with a straight beat so you can focus on keeping your tempo (discard any half-time or beats with a weird snare position like Ride) and as a rule of thumb avoid songs from the self-titled album. My advice go for stressed out (you will be able to practice using your left leg) or run and go if stressed out is too challenging. If you are not really a total beginner then definitely go for heavydirtysoul you will be able to learn useful skills by learning that song.

When I was writing it out I had a suspicion that there are 16th note hats layered underneath 1/4 note crashes. It could be open hats though, it can be tricky to pick the difference!
