Thomas Peters was more than an ex-slave. He fought in the American revolutionary war on the British side of the war because the British promised freedom to all Blacks who fought for them. They fought in all black Regiments know as the "Ethiopian Regiment". As far as I'm concerned, they were the only Freedom Fighters in the Revolutionary war. After the British lost the war to the American rebels, Thomas Peters and others were evacuated to Nova Scotia Canada. Once in Canada, they petitioned King George of England for land. King George told them those who want land, can stay in Canada. Those who want to leave Canada, can go to Sierra Leone. A flotilla of 14 Ships set sail to Sierra Leone and settled there. That's a short version of the story of Thomas Peters. He was a true Freedom Fighter and a proud son of Africa who chose to return home.
Is this the war where the english thought against the patriots I just was watching about this on a series called black and british: a forgotten history some people once awarded freedom was in the UK but many were on the streets but one man had a business married a white woman an then he then gave it up to be a celebrated bare knuckle fighter (bill richmond). They them sent them back to sierra leone aswell as "unruly" slaves from jamaica to start a colony. History is very dark I never new stuff like bunce island existed also when I visited sierra leone as a tourist.
@@queenofsheba9275 as a white englishman after only recently beginning to know more about this history I cannot disagree, very evil. By contrast the people of sierra leone are some of the nicest people I have ever met on my travels and I wish the country/them well

The name sierra lyoa was given by this portugese Explorer pedro da cintra 1462. The country was covered by thick forest and mountains that where hard to penetrate. The Limba/mende where already there deep in the forest. We Will never know what they called the country before because it was so Long ago. There where also settlers from other parts of Africa fleeing persecution that settled with the early settlers and integrated with the locals. Very interesting history. Good evening from The Bahamas. Among the first Settlers of Sierra Leone from Nova Scotia, Canada, were Maroons from Jamaica. After the Third Maroon War in the 1790's in the Cockpit Country, the British expatriated the Maroons, who had been captured, to Nova Scotia. Instead of perishing in the cold, many went to the new country, established by the British, on the West African Coast: Sierra Leone.
WODE, i would like you to research East Africa before the British divided it. I would also like you to research Ancient Egypt before the Arabs conquered it. This is really where our history is
WODE Maya you’re doing a good job for people of African descent. Next time please correct your interviewees that African Americans were enslaved but not slaves. When they use the word slaves it’s demeaning. They were not born to be slaves but were enslaved by the oppressors.
Sorry but i think you are accusing the speaker of being politically incorrect while the true perpetrators of injustice are the colonial masters who brought their education systems and force them upon the African youth. Yes, African students are taught about the atlantic slave trade quite extensively and most probably know more about it than those in western countries.
