Thank you so much for posting! I originally bought the tape cassette from The Cracker Barrel like decades ago from the small shop. I lost track of it as the years went by and as technology moved further away I didn't pay it any attention. I always loved the narration and wished I made a copy. Now I finally can listen to this again!
It is 2020 and, in the real world, most all Maple Streets have been disfigured and destroyed. The enemy was not in a ship, they were really there, writing these stories to shame those who saw through them with alarm.

No it definitely is not. Rod Serling re-wrote a bunch of his television scripts into short-story type form. They were published around the years the show was originally on. That is what you're hearing.

I'm disappointed that this story took such strong liberties with the original screenplay which had no curse words. I wanted to use this with 6th graders, but I can't. It's a great story, but it is not the original. The ending is not the same. There is no stoning. The people in the screenplay descend into madness, but no stoning is shown. Perhaps there is a story version I'm not aware of.
I don't know what curse words you heard - there was a "hell" or two but nothing stronger than that.
