I did! I'm a white dude and I don't even listen to much hip hop but when I was an atheist I listened to this album and it made me cry, especially at the parts where he was explaining how he had come to the Lord. From my point of view, everyone wants to do good, but we are surrounded by the street life. It's how we live because it's all we see and how we feel accepted. Only when it hits home and it's someone you love, is when we are reminded that this is not the life we want to live. But, feel stuck because it's just the way of life. Therefore, we will always be headed nowhere and continue to be part of the cycle of violence. Despite wanting to change, the lifestyle will keep us "Dyin' of thirst". One of my favorite songs.
Yes but he is also telling you there is other ways if he made it out you can too doesn’t have to be rap or entertainment just keep doing your thing homie
This song isn't depressing to me so much as it is real to me. This song is far from cliché. This song is about relenting on the violence, not glorifying it. This whole album is about his life in Compton, he wrote about what he saw. It's not about whether it's depressing or uplifting, it's about how authentic it is. The perspective from which this whole album is told is what makes the difference. He was balancing between good and evil in an environment where evil could've easily consumed him.
