Building an Organic Centerpiece can feel intimidating but it shouldn't! The secret is to green out your vase FIRST, then follow up with your blooms.
PRO TIPS:
~ You can use wet floral foam, chicken wire, pin frogs, or tape a grid as your vase mechanics
~ Use 3-5 different types of greenery
~ Arrange your flowers on different planes (vary height)
~ Color block, group like with like colors for an ombre effect.
Recipe: 2-3 Quicksand roses, 3 brown lisianthus, 2 chocolate queen anne's lace, 3 burgundy scabiosa, 3 burgundy carnations, astrantia scraps, sprigs of greenery that include salal/lemon leaf, nagi, leather leaf, baby and seeded eucalyptus (linked below)

Love how you talk as you go….. It helps beginners like me understand the process better.
You're why we do what we do!!! Thank you so much for the kind words!!
I LOVE that 3rd rose!!!
As always I LOVE your videos.. and shout out to your site Flower Moxie. I've ordered a couple times and I've never been dissatisfied. I'm a new florist and have been doing small weddings. Your store is just so easy and fun order from. Thanks for providing this service!!
Thank you so much for your feedback and kindness and for not calling me a ho-bag. LOL I'm so thrilled we can help you in any way with your new business, I'm so friggin' proud! XOXOX, Amy
😃😃😃"Watch how delicately I handle the greenery" Oh if you can do that and still have a beautiful arrangement, there is HOPE for me being able to do this! 💟You make it seem low stress and fun. I appreciate the little comments and the editing time it must take you to do all that....but it is one reason why I started watching more of your videos. De-stress the wedding prep!
Ha! For one, I'm an introvert who is highly uncomfortable creating videos so adding the funny text helps me cope and hopefully makes them spicier to watch. I'm so glad it helped, and yes, it is a lot of fun and shouldn't be stressful.
I hope you share images of your work!!! XOXOX, Amy
Love these colour ways.
Thank you!
Watching this reminds me of Bob Ross and how he gave plants feelings. "This guy is hanging out by himself..."
Thank you for making these videos I feel way more confident with making compote arrangements now. I love the look but for some reason was very intimidated by them.
HAHA!!!! I don't know why I give flowers pronouns.
I'm so glad it helped! The best thing to do is to get a block of wet floral foam from the hobby store and some grocery store flower or foraged foliage and have a few practice-runs. I think you'll be surprised at how un-intimidating it becomes and how fun it is to get all nerdy with floral composition.
Thank you for your kind words, and for being so positive, the world needs more people like you! XO, Amy
I love everything about you and the way you help us out 😭😭 It's ROBBERY what florists out here are charging for wedding flowers
It does feel that way. Being a florist for 12 years, I can say that most make a modest wage even though it feels like their charging doctor-wages. You actually gave me a GREAT idea for a video explaining a florist price breakdown, as it always helps to understand why something costs what it costs.
I actually started Flower Moxie because, in addition to seeing DIY brides struggle, I had the realization that I would not be able to afford to hire my own services if I had to bankroll my wedding....because, you're right, it is so spendy.
LOVE watching the process of making your pretty arrangements!
Thank you, Lisa, for your kind words! The world (and the internet) needs more people like you! XO
Weird, but I seriously love your hair in this video!!
Well then, I'm gonna break your heart cause I cut bangs.....to look like a French girl I saw on Pinterest. It should be known that I look nothing like her....but I do now look like the mother off of Home Improvement. LMFAO.
Do you have a video of how to start something like this but without greenery? I am trying to avoid greenery in my centerpieces, so unsure the best way to start this!
That's on my list!
You are talented and hilarious! So glad I found your channel : )
So glad you found us!!! XOXO
When you’re adding the leather leaf is it one stem or pieces/segments of one stem individually placed?
Great question! It's always segments. Leather is so big I pretty much always have to cut it down unless I'm using it in a large urn or install.
Can you explain what you meant by "remove straw to sink the flower" at 15:46? Is there a physical straw around the stem that you guys have to keep the flowers upright or is that an anatomical feature of the stem?
I've been looking everywhere for these compotes, where can I find them?
I got them from Accent Decor, which is a wholesale vase supplier! If you have a business and tax ID you can set up an account with them.
stunnnning! what would this flower package be called?
This would be close to our Dusty Rose and Marsala or Navy and Wine! XOXO
Your videos are so helpful! I’m planning on adding a few tall floral centerpieces. Looking at 23inch tall candle stick looking things (lol don’t know the name) would I make them just like this??
So glad it helped!!! Are you talking about an Eifel Tower Vase? If not, post a link to an inpso image of what you're trying to make so I can give you proper advice. =)
@@FlowerMoxie yessss you’re amazing!! @@cassidychambers1128 GREAT INFO! Ok, what you'll need is a 6'' Lomey Design Bowl, floral putty to secure, 1/2 brick of wet floral foam, and waterproof floral tape to tape the foam to the Lomey Bowl. Green it out all hardcore first, then backfill with your flowers. Avoid using hydrangea, as they don't like foam-only designs.
You can green out your bowls 2 days before, and add your flowers the day before your event. Just remember to keep rehydrating the foam bowls. Put the floral putty/floral clay in the cold bowls then set your Lomey with flowers down into it when you arrive at the venue.
Feel free to get a custom design with us if you want more info and a customized recipe! flowermoxie.com/products/custom-design
We will be selling supplies next month, btw!
@@FlowerMoxie thank you soooooo much!!!!!
Just gorgeous!! Would you say this is a small or a medium arrangement.? I love all your videos and learning so much from them.
Thank you for your kind comment! I would definitely call it medium-sized! XO
Thank you so much. I just made an arrangement for an event tonight. If you're saying this is medium then mine is definitely a large. LOL. The customer had asked for medium. I tend to end up using more flowers than needed. Thanks for your videos. I've learned so much from them as I'm starting to make arrangements here and there. 💞🤗
@@dag3580 I'm the same way! I pretty much backfill all my arrangements until my flowers are gone. As a former florist for 13 years, I will say that will serve you well. Under promise and overdeliver!
@@FlowerMoxie thank you for your encouraging words. 💞⚘
I absolutely love your website. It answers every DIY question! Where can I get the compotes you use in this video? Thanks!
I always like your videos because of your advice, I have a question though, How should I calculate a recipe for 10 wedding centerpieces for example? How can I be sure about quantities in each centerpiece?
A lot of this will depend on what types of flowers you're using for your arrangements. You can see some suggested recipes on our website within our collections. Depending on the amount of centerpieces you're doing you'll multiply the each flower you're using by the amount of centerpieces you have, ensuring that you have enough stems for each vase.
You're videos are fabulous and informative. I enjoy the sassy quips imposed over the video :) Wondering, how would I determine the best size for my floral arrangement for a 60"x72" table when planning for a lower floral centerpiece and some small votives, e.g. use a 6" diameter vessel, other? Same for the size/height for a 60"x72"table and a tall floral centerpiece - 24", 32", other?
Thank you for your kind words! So, it sounds like you have a doubled-up 6ft rectangular table? I would suggest doing 1 large compote, 6'', in the middle and 2 smaller ones on each side. Like, mason jar size or bud vases! That, with candles and a runner will pull it all together!
When using foam when should you make these? The morning of the wedding?
You can make these two days before the wedding as long as there's plenty of water in the vase with the foam. Flowers just don't like wet foam alone for very long...it works for short-term things like arches though.
Hello, I’m a new florist too and have found your videos SO helpful…thank you ! Can you please tell me where you purchased your lazy susan/turntable ? I’ve only found bulky wooden ones or ones with a tall lip. I love the one you use in this video 😍
Thank you so much for your kind comment! Tbh, my team member brought this from home and she doesn't remember where she got it from.
I looked and this is the closest I could find: www.amazon.com/Copco-5254605-Basics-Non-Skid-Turntable/dp/B07SKCVQ2V/ref=asc_df_B07SKCVQ2V/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=459708251465&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4183926719656547462&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9026249&hvtargid=pla-942819450133&psc=1
@@FlowerMoxie Thank you, I appreciate the help ! ☺️
When you say 3-4”, is that the diameter of the vase opening?
Have you ever mixed faux and real greenery or flowers?
Absolutely! Mixing faux flowers with fresh is a great way to incorporate a flower that you really want even if it's out of season! No one will know the difference, we promise!
15 to 20? Waaaaaay no way.
Keep in mind this video was made over 4 years ago.... and inflation is real! With pricing now this arrangement would run between $35-$40 with what we used in the video. You could definitely bring the cost down more depending on the types of flowers you choose!
