It's extremely easy to get injured and taken by predators. I was hiking solo up iron mountain in CA. I was dead certain there was not an animal in sight. I reached a small clearing 50 ft diameter. I suddenly bent over to pull my quick laces on my shoes. Quick 4 second bend then I was up and nearly shit myself as I saw a mountain lion heading toward me up in the trail. As if by instinct I opened up my arms, legs and yelled at the top of my lungs. It changed course right away. I paused but continued, bear spray on each hand.
I grew up in the woods of North Louisiana and as well as I know the forest and with military training and law enforcement training I have still been lost a few times and have had simple accidents that if I had been alone I would not have made it out. Also animals that are quite dangerous can surprise even trained and armed individuals and you may not be seen again.
Soon we'll have drones that memorize the way we came in and lead us back out. Or, if we fall into a hidden cave entrance or become injured, they'ill transmit our exact location to a ranger station or other rescue center.
We already do. All the DJI and I'm sure other camera drones have a return to home function. If ya had it in follow me mode and then hit return to home ya could just follow it back out and it'll land on the exact GPS coordinate it started from. And there's already GPS emergency locator beacons ya can get for hiking/ camping and other outdoor adventuring. Or if ya wanna fork out 75 grand ya can a Boston Dynamics robot dog (Spot) that can probably do all that and more. Or ya can get a cheapo Chinese clone version for about $2,500 that can probably do most of that too for a 30th of the price.🤷♂
That would be really cool! But I do think people wouldn't use them or they would use the emergency beacons that can transmit your location from anywhere in the world (even the top of mouth Everest or the middle of the ocean) that they have available now 😂.

Agree. The 411 moniker is more than a strange disappearance. It's the weather change, the closeness to a water source, clothing found, dogs not finding a scent. So many factors involved.
This is what I'm thinking will help to prevent Missing 411 people / cases in the USA (other countries need to adopt this to suit them): - Have each person above an early age mandated to rent (or have one of their own) a GPS locating device when they enter a park. Not the kind that works when they press a button, but one where the National Park Service can find using a "where is" signal. Ideally it also should be waterproof and have a camera built-in.... where using the camera will trigger the device on. - The device should be required to have, with a $100 - $200 deposit... money returned upon exit... and should be trackable everywhere. - This should reduce Missing person cases in our parks to almost 0... thereby virtually eliminating the need for extended searches.
Why not require all people to have this and carry it at all times? That way if you have a car accident, fall prey to a criminal or heck, even commit a crime yourself, the government will know exactly where you are at every moment!
@@kissedbysun2517 - Here's a better response... The device proposed is GPS / Satellite based... (not cell tower). Currently the technology is not large enough to cover everybody... even if they wanted to.
