    The concern is actually frost-bite. If you move the ice quickly enough it won't hurt, however if it sits in one spot for for more than a moment, you will feel the sting of the cold

      UberX i found that extinguishers are easy to find if you ever see unattended construction equipment. Like a back hoe, bulldozer or something like that. Check to see if the door is unlocked.

    How much dry ice do you get per pound of CO2? I fully discharged my extinguisher and got 5lbs dry-ice from 15lbs liquid CO2, so my experience with crude equipment is a 1:3 ratio dry-ice/CO2.

    At my work, we use tanks of Carbon Dioxide, with an insulated container and a small brick like form. We use dry ice bricks, to pack around parts. Just helps get them ready for installation. Beats Liquid Nitrogen any day. I had burns on my arms for a year, after installing bearings out of Liquid Nitro...

  • @TheKingofRandom
    @TheKingofRandom  11 лет назад +3

    I don't have experience with CO2 for welding, but I imagine it will work! It may not be food grade, but that's probably ok for most purposes. If you try it, let me know how it works. :D

    • @realityforlorn
      @realityforlorn 10 лет назад +1

      The best thing you can do is seal the stuff in a Vacuum-Insulated container with as small an access port as possible. The Vacuum barrier is about as good a thermal insulator as you can hope for unless you happen to have a research grade super cooler laying around. Also, only go Vacuum-insulated, NOT Vacuum SEALED, as this will lead to a slow build up of pressure that could be very dangerous. (Storing the stuff in a Freezer helps, but only for so long.)

With an extinguisher he strapped it to a wagon and popped the top that had a modified valve.. and turned it into a rocket car flying through the colleges museum!

    No, it will still sublimate quite rapidly in a freezer too. It should be used as soon as it is made so you don't lose too much

    you are not "making" anything , you just put it from one place to another.

      By that logic you can never "make" anything ... law of conservation of mass.

      +Star MC Carbon Dioxide is used because it smothers fires and unlike ABC extinguishers, its totally clean. ABC extinguishers have a mix of micro dust that also smothers flames, but they leave that crap everywhere and can really hurt you if you breath it in.
