Snowboarding Powder on The Deepest Day of The Season

One of my all time best days.
This was filmed March 10th 2024- Whistler was in the middle of the biggest storm cycle this year. These massive dumps typically only happen on El Niño years, and they can make or break the season depending on whether or not the temperatures hold cold enough. In general, days like this one are far and few between.
I had been in line since 5:30AM, as to ensure my first runs be un-tracked. It was totally worth it, and I got the goods surfing the line under the Peak to Peak on Blackcomb side. I let loose a warriors cry at the bottom, as you can imagine it takes a lot of things to come together to nail a line of this calibre. At this point I'm super stoked that: A) I didn't fall, B) Snow didn't block the camera lens, and C) I was able to get to the run first, before it had been tracked.
After that I got a virtually untouched line through "In the Spirit", which had accumulated a tonne of snow, thus doubling the base, making the conditions even better than the day before.
Then I headed over to Crystal Chair, and got my secret line off of the cat track that goes back to Glacier Chair. This line is usually untouched because it is fairly counter intuitive. Most people that ride Crystal Chair as it opens, head back down to Crystal Chair for more laps. Versus, the way that I approach this line, brings me back down the other side of the mountain, back to Glacier and Jersey Cream chairs. The trees down through there were immaculate- however I did have a quick spill that interrupted the flow of my line... bummer!
I spent the rest of the day lapping Jersey Chair, accessing the deeply tree saturated area that exists off of the Seventh Heaven Expressway. This area is the deepest on the hill, but also one of the most dangerous due to their tree wells and tight terrain. I don't think I could have floated through those spots without my Gentemstick Super Fish 176cm. The huge surface area of this board allows you to glide across low angle tree runs with ease, and the swallow tail keeps the nose floating in even the deepest conditions.
I could barely believe how deep this day was. In certain spots the snow was waist deep. The best snow is always found in the woods, yet these forested areas can be the most hap hazardous if you aren't skilled enough to navigate tight areas. Make sure that you always ride with a buddy if you're going to attempt such areas.
