    People can say what they want, but for the price and what these Vans actually offer they're actually a good deal. You can get these for the low 20s compared to paying high 20s low 30s for something comparable in another brand. With good routine maintenance you'll get a couple hundred thousand miles out of them at least.

    Beautiful utility vehicle! I drove this for 10 days from fox rental(brand new car). We traveled as a family of 7 with 9 suitcases and 4 backpacks from Las Vegas to San Francisco. We got 24mpg(average). Very comfortable vehicle. I highly recommend it!
    (Please note: I used the SXT trim level)

    A basic minivan now was a luxury one when I was a kid! I remember when the grand caravan/Plymouth voyager came out. Now if your family was “fancy” you had a Chrysler Town and Country (burgundy with wood grain panels) yea...oh those days lol

    I posted a review on Edmunds for this van. Here's the skinny. Purchased 2016 R/T trim. Priced relatively well at $28,000 brand new. The van has its quirks. Airbag sensor light failed at 10,000 miles because of a short between seating controls. Sliding doors had to be lubricated due to excessive grinding noise. Backup camera is slow to respond in quick reverse scenarios. Infotainment system proves to be maddening especially when music is involved. A/C in hot summers with entire cabin system on is underwhelming.
    Despite this, the van is actually great. Road trips to Big Bear in the snow are a breeze. Performs better than our previous Mitsubishi Outlander. Get all terrain tires if possible, much better ride and of course makes for better road trips etc. Storage and cargo space in abundance. This car is an effective people mover, it does exactly what we needed it to do, which was carry people and tons of cargo around. I would still recommend the van despite my issues.

    • @tomgates316
      @tomgates316 6 лет назад +3

      Don’t know about the 2016, but the 17 and 18’s have a backup camera delay setting. Example if you’re just doing a bit of jockeying to straighten out in a parking spot, and don’t want the camera popping up as you quick adjust, can set the delay so it doesn’t pop on each time. When you truly need to do some serious backing, then it’s just a short pause for it to come on screen. Maybe you have a delay setting in place. Or someone did it for you. 😉

    Okay, I know that minivans aren't super sexy and interesting, but the Grand Caravan does have plenty to offer. If you're not convinced, skip ahead to 7:33 and watch how easy it is to collapse the middle row captains chairs into the floor. It's amazing. Anyway, thanks for watching! And please let me know what you think. Good or bad. Cheers!

      I have basically the same van, but it’s a 2017. I was originally going to get one with the bench seats, but the salesman talked me out of it (I’m a single person), and got me one with the Stow and Go seats, which is a lot more practical for me (I needed a vehicle that I could put a bike into, and also a cot, as I’m an oversize load escort driver, and at times, I stay in it overnight, if we have nighttime runs.)

    I drive a Honda Odyssey (got a good deal on a lease) but when I was rear-ended and it had to be fixed, the insurance gave us a Grand Caravan as a replacement. To me, it drove just as well, making it somewhat of a bargain.

    Couldn't help but notice Northfield Square Mall in the background in Bradley/Bourbonnais! That's where we are from. We just purchased our 2018 Grand Caravan 2 days ago and love it. Jumped in and took it straight to Florida the next day. Surprised my family with the trip, they had no idea! Unfortunately the person in front of us hit a deer and through it's insides all over our brand new van in Georgia. No damage, just lots of blood! We have no other complaints. We chose the same one in this video with the DVD option in white blacktop edition. Thanks for the detailed review as it assisted us in our decision. I also saw your other Grand Caravan video with our mall in the background. Small world!

    With a note to the screen: This screen is FCA's previous generation UConnect. I assume they kept it on the grand caravan because it fits. The rest of the lineup that has been recently refreshed all have Chrysler's modern, up-to-date UConnect UI that is a lot more user friendly.Still, back in the late 2000's when this first UConnect first appeared, it was the best on the market.

    I rented a 2017 Caravan in the GT Trim Last Year. It had every option on it. Except a Push Button Start and a Sunroof. It had the Digital Display, Power Sliding Doors, Power Lift Gate, Power Bottons That You Can Push To Open The Power Sliding Doors and The Lift Gate Also. Rain Sensing Headlights. I Loved That Van. It has plenty, plenty, of room. It has the room to do whatever you need to do. I Would Definitely Buy This Caravan In The GT Trim.

    I’m renting one right now, same color, same wheels. Mine has black leather / vinyl interior, built in Nav. At the airport I had the choice of two vehicles: this or a double cab Nissan Frontier. I sat in both, back to back, and the Caravan seemed more comfortable. I’m into my third day with it and gotta say, I like it. Nice driving position, comfy, plenty of power and it looks pretty good. The GPS helped me get to my destination late at night. I’d definitely rent one again. And as a bonus, it was super cheap to rent, one week for $133 USD plus tax.

    • @100RentalCars
      @100RentalCars  5 лет назад

      100 Rental Cars sorry, my bad, I should clarify, it’s not a full week (it’s Saturday to Thursday). Rented it from Alamo. Today I had four passengers and really appreciated having power sliding doors. Only gripe: the rear wiper is not working properly - and we’ve had rain all day.

    Just purchased one used from Enterprise car sales, I couldn’t be more pleased. Exact same exterior and interior shown here. I agree with the man. Highly recommend this van... I was always the guy who’d say... minivan... nahhh not me... but this one is sporty and it’s a beast... it feels more like a full size and certainly has the room for many many uses.
    At its trim level, lots of nice touches, like the remote start! Something I’d never had before... not sure but I believe the dash screen plays dvds... anyhow, it’s a man wagon too trust me... I couldn’t be more pleased.

    I've learned that you don't need the screen in the middle of the gauge cluster you just have to click setup and you can get how much kilometers or miles you can go without filling up and the speed you're going it's basically a smaller screen in the higher trim level but you can see the same exact things you get with the higher trim level on that

    You didn’t mention stadium seating. The third row of seats flips to the rear while open. When the liftgate is up you can sit facing out back. This is great for picnicking or tailgating but certainly not to be used while underway.

    I bought my 2018 last autumn and I was immediately impressed. However, I am concerned about 2 things: (1) The slightly stiff acceleration that I experience when taking off. When I brought it to the attention of the dealer he said (and I really don't think this was true, but I could be wrong) that it's a memory type of acceleration that over time recognizes the habit of how you accelerate. I guess it still doesn't know me yet! (2) Which is more concerning, the ever so jump or minor surge I would get every so often from the transmission when accelerating. It's nothing serious but is this typical of 3.6 type engines?

    My challenger has those rocker buttons and its one of those things that you don't realize how great it is to have until you can use it then wonder how you lived without it. As backward and primitive as some auto journalists have tagged this Dodge I still find it quite interesting and good looking to boot. 👍 I would go with the top of the line 2019 model. Your review is great. Top notch as usual! I wish commenters here and auto journalists in general would lighten up on this van. It's not that bad. I'm fact it has a retro flavor, in my opinion. I like it's look. Anyway, cheers friend. Happy Holidays! I'm in tune with your channel here, always. Peace! ♐

      I'm single and have a '15 that I use mainly for interstate use. I travel through the night between TN and FL often. I carry a cot in back to sleep on if needed. Also hauled firewood, lawn equip., bikes, etc. A little big and clumsy around town w/ bumpy roads and lots of curves (Chattanooga), but great hwy vehicle. I drive a small truck in town.

    • @100RentalCars
      @100RentalCars  6 лет назад +1

    • @robsrandomness7824
      @robsrandomness7824 6 лет назад +1

      They all stay down in the floor at all times except for the one right behind the driver. I keep a milk crate on that seat to put grocery bags or whatever in so they don't roll all over the place. It's easy enough to pull up the other side middle seat if I need it for more passenger capacity. The rear seat was put into the floor right after I bought it 3 years ago and never been back up. The cot stays on the pass side. The floor is uneven for just a mattress or sleeping bag. I adjusted the cot legs to compensate. Just used if I need an hour or 2 of sleep at 4 AM while traveling.

      That is so cool. I bet, since it's just a regular minivan, you never get harassed by the cops or neighbors. I actually read a whole article recently about guys in college living in their vans to save money. It's not luxurious, but I think it's brilliant. Some of them have done some amazing things to their vans too. Anyway, you should post a few videos of your set-up. I'd love to see it.

    • @robsrandomness7824
      @robsrandomness7824 6 лет назад +1

      I've seen those, too. That's not me, tho. The most I'll do is an hour or 2 at an interstate rest area, along with 10 other ppl usually doing the same in their cars. I should've done it last night, but I didn't. Drove straight through. Was all over my lane for the last hour. That's the only reason for the cot.

      LTMedia 2018 is the last year and it’s being discontinued. Competitors (Kia Sedona, Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey) have much better features and they’re modern transportation. They’re slowly taking the caravan off the rd.

    • @LTMedia
      @LTMedia 6 лет назад +3

      That sucks cause it looks like Caravan sales have been good and the base price of an SE is $5,000 or more less than it's competition.

    Thanks for all your helpful comments and information on GC. Has anyone ever experienced difficulties with the night driving because of the glare from car behind ? My rear room mirror does not seem to reduce the bright glare automatically even it is said it has auto dimming function. I’d prefer rear room mirror equipped with lever for night driving. How can I drive safely at night with this issue? I bought the 2019 sxt last month without testing drive at night.
    Thanks

      I haven't experienced any issues. But, you could look into replacing the mirror yourself if it's causing you issues. It's not a difficult project and a replacement mirror would be pretty cheap.

    I had one and it is problematic! I had a 2012 Volkswagen Routan Aka Dodge Grand Caravan or Chrysler T&C and with 3 years of ownership, it had a total of 4 months being in the dealer for a lot of issues. The van didn’t even last 70k miles. The van is not abused either, and driven by my wife and I do religious maintenance on this van. I had so many issues with pentastar 3.6 V6 starting with: fuel line ruptured and detached from the engine while my wife is driving in the freeway; cylinder number 4 cracked at 33k miles, transmission problem at 45k miles, issues with rockerarms, another transmission problems at 65k miles and TIPM at 70 k miles. That TIPM is just a piece of crap. When the dealer installed it my van goes haywire. That tells me its time to dispatch this van because its becoming unsafe and have to go back to Toyota.

    I wonder what the price point is for these fleet versions of the Caravan sold to the rental companies
    ? The reason this mini-van sells the most of any is the fact the rental companies and U.S. Government buy them up for fleets.

    • @100RentalCars
      @100RentalCars  5 лет назад

      It must be really low, because honestly, I see very few of these on the road being driven by families.

      100 Rental Cars in New York and the surrounding area I see quite a few of the grand caravans though. Usually older ones it seems tho I seen some newish ones. If I had to buy a mini can the odessy or the Pacifica is the ones I would consider.

    I had the previous generation Chrysler T&C 2006 short wheel base minivan it was trouble free except needing Tie rod ends at 30k miles, I Traded it in 2012 at about 100k miles on a Dodge Journey sxt v-6. It was just starting to bubble rust at the leading edge when i sold the mini van. The Dodge mini van is a lot of car for the money especially with the rebates. I just can't get past the 4 slice german kitchen toaster exterior look in my opinion the previous generation van was better looking hopefully Chrysler will redesign the grand Caravan soon more in line with the new pacifica van but at a better price. Better yet scrap the dodge minivan all together and go with something like a 3 row Chevy Traverse but in the mid 26k price range. BTW I would never buy a Chevy anything after two bad S-10s and a crap 2000 Malibu.

      I like the idea of getting a large SUV instead of a minivan, but only after the kids are out of car seats. Sliding doors are amazing with car seats. It's made my life sooo much easier. And sorry to hear about your poor experiences with Chevy. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit I haven bought "American" in quite some time. I've had too many bad experiences myself.

      Yeah...Back in '09 my wife, and I test drove 'mid level' Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey EX, and the Chrysler Town & Country.
      We ended up choosing the Odyssey ($3,500 incentive for us buyers helped make that decision). Now we're looking for a replacement (either entry, or mid level), and we're comparing the 3 once again.

    Totalled my economy 2016 Odyssey last week. Insurance is offering $21k to replace it. All I can find are these boring caravans... 90% of them in fact. But those automatic sliding doors would be nice as a mom of three kids aged 2-6 (ugh if I didn't have to spend the extra $$$ on a freaking minivan ... But you gotta have three car restraints or boosters for the kids and it's just impossible in most compact cars obviously.
