So surreal.. I've been following and watching your clips for awhile now and I always had a presumption that I was the only Malaysian who was even aware of your existence. But seeing how many Malaysians they are in the comments, it's good to know that your humour is resonating with a lot of people over here. Please consider a few Malaysian gigs ? Love from Kuala Lumpur !

Then trial running a few shorts! Asia is awesome, Comedy on the rise. See you in SE Asia soon!
Near China?? Ooof that's painful, that's far, GM. Borders Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and neighbours Singapore Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, is a great city. It's comparative to Toronto. Nice light rail system for commuting- probably insufficient for the working stiffs in the city, but for a tourist it was awesome. I loved the Indian restaurants in KL. It's so global over in the city. Oh and my friend wanted to walk that glass bridge between those two buildings.
I wonder how Gianmarco's humor would translate into Mandarin and Malay since he'd like to get his clips circulated in China and Singapore. I remember hearing that the tone in which words are said in those languages dictates so strongly how the message is received, such that sarcasm doesn't translate very well. But also, perhaps that's changed over time, as countries continue to be exposed to more American culture.
Malaysian here, been following comedy podcasts, stand-up, kill tony on RUclips for a while now. Thank you for giving one of us an opportunity like this. Some of us are talented (somehow) and our contributions make things better overall.
Gianmarco, I am listening to backlogged Downside episodes while recovering from surgery, and it makes recovery so much easier. Glad that I can blame your comedy for causing all of my cervicothoracic problems!
I was listening to the podcast but had to come leave a comment when I got to the Blessings. When Russel mentioned the Beastie Boys I about fell off my chair. I just started listening to them and Rage Against the Machine yesterday after years of "oh I'll get around to it, I'm sure I'll like 'em." We're in the same boat it seems! Lol 😂
The woman who stripped wasn't exactly comedy, but the result with all the ruckus with the religious police/"authority" here kind of proved her point here :/
As an active duty soldier, we were taught to use tourniquets. For wounds in areas you couldn’t use one (neck, stomach, etc,) you pack and dress the wound.
1:11:02 lol gianmarco pitching for russel when he said he was sorta in the comedy world reminded me of this really funny web series episode from a decade ago that plays on the same premise called an actor unprepared you should check it out
20:39 its so funny he mentioned the alaska thing because technically Malaysia is also consisted of two parts separated by the ocean 😭 Edit: 29:58 honestly that whole ordeal is so... Their so called "edgy" joked caused so much damage for the people tied to the club. I'm Muslim myself and there's another gazillion things you could structure a joke on criticizing religion but her joke was done in such poor taste. (Of course there's an argument to be made about free speech and expression but this comment will be too long) Malaysians would understand: Menyusahkan orang je
52:15 Jason knows our sensitivity. 😅 We can laugh at many things and jokes but sensitive to some issue especially related to someone misfortune, death even if they are just a stranger.
I was such a history nerd I was invited to a teachers birthday in the high school history teachers lounge so I have a real hazy memory of what I actually learned in class and what nonsense I learned in recommended books or watching the history Channel with my dad
RE: the sinkhole: "An official from the Minerals and Geosciences Department said initial observations suggested it could have been due to a combination of human activities and climate change." Welp that clears that up
another msian here hahaa, really a crossover i didn't expect! pleasantly surprised ofc :D i've been following both of ya for quite some time! editing to add: lol was not expecting the jocelyn chia mention, the problem i have with that incident was that her specific joke wasn't great/creative, and the harsh/menacing-ish delivery/tone felt off-putting too so the whole thing came across as punching down at a very specific & small group of people with no comedic payoff? even as someone who enjoys more "cursed"/"dark" types of humour, i think there's plenty of ways to do these jokes without the audience feeling this way, she just missed the mark. just my take tho ofc, comedy is subjective! definitely not surprised by the SG government's reaction to her clip though haha the discussion about a local audience vs. an international audience on the internet and the 'rules' in comedy is very interesting! i think SEAsia has great potential for your future sets gianmarco, and it's obv culturally very interesting and diverse so it'll be a brand new avenue.
Ahhh I’m so sad I thought I was gonna be able to see you in Atlanta next week but the comedy club is 21+ and I’m 20 💔💔💔 Hopefully it goes well, and I can see you here another time when I’m of age.
The thing about Jocelyn Chia is because the joke involved tragedy involving loss of a lot of civilian lives. Kinda like if I make a joke about Jenga, American Engineering and 9/11.
As Malaysian, it's embarrassing that Malaysia is trying to become a developed country without giving it's people the basic freedoms of a developed country such as freedom of speech, freedom to change religion or become an apostate (only applies to Muslim) and removing laws that basically discriminates people based on their ethnicity. The last part basically makes it easier for people of certain ethnicities (malays and bumiputera) to get into public univerisities, get goverment jobs and cheaper housing (they have land reserved). I hope one day Malaysia follows in the footsteps of great nations and champions western values without undermining local cultural values
As a malaysian living in the Great US of A, here we do have Affirmative action and Equal opportunity employer with Affirmative action obligations. Malaysia is following the "great nations" . Affirmative action are seen by all great nations as a progressive measure. I do agree with you about apostasy but not so much about everything else.
It's sad to see a Malaysian would smear the bumis just because they're greedy forefathers helped the british to pillage the natives and they're sad they couldn't steal more.
One of the many reasons why Singapore was cut out from the Malay Federation has to do with race. Malaysia's interest was to take care of their own brethren (Malaysian Malaysia), while Singapore do not subscribe to it. Nevertheless, because of our proximity, we have close ties even today. Come visit Singapore if you're ever in Malaysia!

this doctor title slander will not stand! XD the term doctor meant highly trained in a certain field. They sent a lot of there lifetime to get doctorates to prove it. Doctor had a lot of gavitas. then the most common doctor people come across are medical doctors and also the propaganda of doctors came around. Not saying it is bad but the acamedic side kinda just got sidelined for medical stuff. The other doctors are the ones who came up with so much that we have around today. science bitch! it could also be that the internet has also changed how hard it was to get such titles back in the day. no google or phones and such back in the day.

I feel so sad that we went down the political route with the Jocelyn Chia thing. We should've just waited until a Malaysian comedian got up and responded. There's tons of them that would come up with something.
Malaysia 🇲🇾 is a muslim majority country, 65% of the population are Muslims. Based on the ethnicities, 61% of the population of 🇲🇾 is called Malays, 22% is Chinese descent, 7 % is Indian descent, n 10% is the native population of Borneo island. But the constitution n the laws of the country are based on the 🇬🇧 common laws, which include the provision of protecting the sanctity of Islam n the rights of the Malays n the Borneo natives, as historically the Malays n native Borneans are the early people who inhabited the country. 99% of Chinese n Indians were immigrants brought in by 🇬🇧 colonial during 19 n 20 centuries to work mainly in their tin mines n rubber estates. When the Malays push for independence from 🇬🇧 in 1950s, 🇬🇧 gave the condition to the Malay Rulers to give citizenship to chinese n indians of 🇲🇾 as jus soli, in exchange of Chinese n Indians recognize the sanctity of Islam n the protection of Malays in the 🇲🇾 constitution. That was what happened in the 1950s, b4 🇲🇾 were granted independence by 🇬🇧. This period after 🇯🇵 occupation and the struggles of gaining independence from the 🇬🇧 by the Malays in the 1950s, usually forgotten by 🇲🇾 today's generation.
The strain relationship among ethnicities is incited by political move n by the politicians. Malays accuse chinese as too greedy n want to take power over the country, chinese accuse Malays for treating them like 2nd class citizens, etc. However, at the lower hierarchy of population, people only minding their own business n live in harmony next to each other. As long as we know how to keep our 👅 civilized, we can always avoid conflict. When we talk without thinking of consequences n affect other people sensitivity, things could get astray, and lead to trouble 😵💫, although the starter of the issue merely very petty.
