Obviously, I was VERY wrong about the set in this video. Sorry for spreading bad info everyone! Thank you so much for letting me know that I was mistaken! I’ll try to do better and sound less confident about things that I don’t know for sure. I appreciate you all always! 💜 Borahae! -Chase
You will really enjoy the behind the scenes making of the MV. It’s fascinating to see how it was made and what he’s trying to convey. His background is in contemporary dance. 💜
First of all the MV's background is quite strange. Cause it looks exactly like they are in PANOPTICON which is a type of prison wherein all the cells are visible from the center of the building. The prisoners in the cell however can never tell if they are being guarded or not, which gives the eerie feeling that someone is always watching you even if it's the contrary. This is basically symbolizing how they live their life as an idol It might be just a coincidence however the Set Me Free Pt.2 poster is exactly the same thing, the background image represents a panopticon hence just like the first line of Serendipity (Jimin's solo song) "None of this is a coincidence" Since even his TikTok vids and vlives has hidden hints in them except that they're very hard to find. For example, the time when Jimin posted TikTok dance vids were he danced to BTS old songs in medley, there's nothing much going on except that he picked very interesting background, one is near the skyscraper window, one is with a very conspicuous ceiling above him, and the last one is the one with a white bookshelf Of course there's nothing strange about it well not untill he dropped this MV that it finally clicked All the background were he had been dancing on those TikTok dance are quite similar cause the bookshelf, the window, the ceiling are all in white and they all have those bunch of squares being sack together that symbolize PANOPTICON which is the prison that Jimin is symbolizing in the MV. Anyways since those hints aren't easy to notice there are still a lot of people who didn't even know that he had already foreshadowed his album since long time ago. Also I don't think the set me free he is referring to is to break away from the band or expanding his solo music career But from the hate and everything else he has been dealing with throughout the years. It must be noted that Jimin is the most hated member in BTS and he has suffered a lot like receiving death threats and etc. but anyways for me I guess this is just his way of breaking free of himself. Yes, I typed it right, it's himself The 'him' that others are trying to portray as him and the part of 'him' that he was always facing against. It's quite complex to explain. But should I just say that his greatest opponent was always himself? Not the haters, or whatever there is. From his first solo song alone called Lie He already showed that he is in inner conflict with himself and he can't escape And that lie continues to grow in Love yourself: Serendipity and everything after that. But it stopped in Map of the Soul: Shadow when he released his third solo song Filter cause he accepted that lie, or should I say he embraced that lie hence it's no longer a lie so in Set me Free, he is finally freeing himself. Hence the album title "Face", not just the face as in the facial features of a person cause I'm pretty sure that what other people would mostly think, but anyways the "face" he is referring to is also "face" as in to face something. Face yourself Face your shadow Face your face I guess that's probably why in the covers of his face album, there's this circles resembling ripples of water Cause when you look at the ripples of water, you would FACE the reflection of your FACE Which is genius 👏 Unfortunately, a lot of people wouldn't get it and would just look at his cover like it's just a plain cover with no creativity or whatsoever. Without knowing it's actually a masterpiece. If you still think this songs aren't connected to the other songs, you should look at the lyrics cause he literally copied the line "Going insane to stay sane" from ON by BTS which talks about fighting and embracing the pain. Secondly, is the choreography. He also recreated the iconic choreography in 'Lie' were he is lifted up while he sang the lines "Caught it a lie, please find the me when I was pure, I can't escape from this lie, please bring me back my smile" "Caught in a lie, please take me out of this hell, I CAN'T ESCAPE from his pain, please save me I'm being punished" Anyways, Set Me Free is literally like Lie part 2, cause he is finally breaking free from his cocoon. And now he is free like a butterfly. Also the great similarities between lie and Set me Free pt.2 is the creation of the iconic screaming or howling of voices in the background. Also y'all might not notice this but in the entire choreography of Set Me Free pt.2, he's like recreating the life cycle of a butterfly. In the beginning he's in the center of the backup dancers, the dancers being the leaf and him being an egg, afterwards the dancers would form like round like formation (a.k.a the Fibonacci spiral "Nature's Universal Rule in short THE GOLDEN RATIO) the spiral is found throughout nature and put simply represents our ever evolving journey in life. Also in that spiral also symbolize a caterpillar being curled up, then at the end of the MV they would surround him and lift him up pretty much looking like a cocoon and when he broke free he already changed outfit (a.k.a he transformed like a butterfly) ( Those actions are like METAMORPHOSIS of a butterfly which also means the change of form in an individual after hatching or birth) It's also interesting how the surprise outfit change is also connected to his third solo song Filter were he 'magicaly, changes clothes. Just like the changes of outfits in Filter, his clothing in this MV gradually changes, from fully clothed, till he gradually revealed some of his skin, till in the 2nd verse were he fully exposed his skin with all these tattoos written in German from a german poem by Rainer Maria Rilke in the late 1800s that says: "I live my life in ever-widening circles that stretch themselves out of all things, I won't perhaps complete the last one but I intend on trying" "I circle for thousands of years and I don't know, yet am I a falcon, a storm, or a might song". The poem ask 3 questions: 1. Am I a falcon that meant to fly above everyone 2. Am I an upcoming storm meant to destroy everyone 3. Or am I a great song meant for everyone to love Anyways when he he was lifted, he magically re-appeared with white clothes. So yeah, the changes of outfits just represents the gradual change or the growth of himself and the last part is were he completely broke free (He's not just revealing his skin to show off) Lastly, I'll explain why he decides to symbolize himself as a butterfly and not other animals like a bird that symbolize freedom. The reason is simple, he is afraid of butterflies. So technically FACE your fears Embrace your shadow and become what you are afraid of In his case, the butterfly which is himself So yeah the MV and the song is not as simple as most people think. It has lots and lots of layers and for all the people who doesn't really know much about him, I completely understand that they won't like it or take this song too seriously. I've already seen a lot of people that had criticize this song cause he's using "too much auto tune" even though it's obvious that it's for artistic purposes 🙄. Also don't get me started about that so called mis used word "OPPS". And the outfit being the same with the back-up dancers complaints. Anyways, it doesn't really matter now cause he already said the f word to all of his opposition so he no longer gives a damn 👏👏. This is truly a character development. "Look at me now I won't stop even if they mock me Going insane to stay sane Raise your hands for the past me Now set me Free " Also the reason why he deliberately uses the auto-tune, it's not because to fix his vocals but for artistic purposes but although some already figured it out cause it's easy to tell. They don't actually realize how brilliant he's been using the auto-tune. As you can see in MV there's this call and response section were his 2 kind of voice exist. So technically he's using the auto-tune to duet with himself. And in the last part were his voice gets muffled, it's intentional cause it emphasize that he's like trapped in the cocoon (dancers) and is struggling to get free Also I think the one in Auto-tune represents his inner thoughts, or the words he'd probably never say out loud I mean have you ever heard him curse before? Or addressed his haters for all the things they did? Nope and Nope And also just from the first lyrics alone, "I got a good time, time to get mine" "Hennessy and Night" "I get feel low still stuck on the maze" "Hey, fool get out of my way" "F*CK off, I'm on my way" Those are clearly sides of himself that he never get to show cause WE put him in that cage or a character that wasn't fully himself which is why he's caught in a lie and now he wants to break free. So yeah Set him Free!
Doesn't bother me that you were mistaken. You were respectful and are open to being corrected (hope you only got the most respectful corrections, lol), but most importantly, this was a REACTION. You said what you were thinking, associating, and appreciating. You're doing great! "Keep going!"💜💜
He's talking to himself. He did the same in his track Lie. This isn't rebellion against BTS or Kpop etc, he's talking to his haters and his own shadow, in the Jungian sense. It's a testament to his writing that we can all use it as a manifesto "eff off, here I am in all my glory" ✊💜 He's known to be notoriously hard on himself, this is him telling that inner voice to shut up.
The set was built specifically for Jimin a “circular prison” to reflect his inner struggles. Much of camera work is done by Bighit camera operators who are as integral to the performance as choreography. Highly recommended you check out the MV shoot sketch so actually see set and cameras. BTS almost always puts out MV shoot sketches and that would be great to view before making your analysis re set design etc. Really enjoy your reactions!💜
Jimin is absolutely still a member of BTS. And BTS will be reconvening their group music when they finish their military service in 2025ish. They have said that many times. Jimin has also directly stated what this song is about and it has nothing to do with separating from BTS or needing to be free of his team. In fact, his fellow bandmates convinced him to make the album as a way to get through his depression and confusion. RM even helped him with lyrics. He’s doing an interview on SUGA’s show next week. Also the part 2 is in reference to SUGA’s song Set Me Free. Many of the things in this song and video are in reference to things from previous BTS and Jimin songs/choreo. BTS has used the f word in their songs numerous times. This is also not the first time Jimin has put out solo music separate from BTS albums. The lyrics in this song are in line with things Jimin has expressed in his music before, both solo music on and off of BTS’s albums. Regarding the autotune, as BTS has done numerous times before, including in Black Swan and Shadow, the autotune parts are essentially Jimin’s shadow saying things. When there’s no autotune, that’s Jimin now and his true feelings. The autotune is not there to make the song sound better or improve his voice in any way, but to make it possible to differentiate between the characters’ lines.
Here is the poem written in German on Jimin’s body as translated:
Widening Circles Written by Rainer Maria Rilke Germany (1875 - 1926) Timeline Translated and read by Joanna Macy Listen I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world. I may not complete this last one but I give myself to it. I circle around God, around the primordial tower. I’ve been circling for thousands of years and I still don’t know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song?
They actually built the set for the MV. Jimin mentions it in the behind the scenes :) Also, more than making a statement about becoming someone different, Jimin used his new freedom as a solo artist to finally break away from people's negative opinions and criticisms of the person he already is. They've all (BTS) had to put up with alot of unwarranted hate and if there is one person who least deserves that its Jimin. He's very sweethearted. He also has always had an aggressive side that he doesn't show as often but again, I think that's partly because it's not what people expect from him. He doesn't have to worry about their expectations anymore and that's what Set Me Free conveys. Again, Jimin explains it himself in the behind the scenes which I definitely reccomend. Borahae 💜
This was choreographed by Sienna Lalau and the Lab. She also choreographed ON and Run BTS for them. Jimin did a video explaining the thought process behind this song, and it was written in response to depression, having to diet and other social constraints. Also the writing on his body is a German poem called "Ich lebe mein Leben in wachsenden Ringen” by Rainer Maria Rilke. This translates to “I live my life in ever-widening circles” in English. Feels so operatic to me, in the best way. Love your reactions. 😘💜
Um……they built this set (a panopticon -a circular prison)from scratch. The set designer posted pictures on his instagram. I like your enthusiasm about it……but pretty sure there was no green screen.. there is a behind the scenes out and you can hear Jimin talk about building the set to his specification. He also explains what the sing is about
The spiral is the Fibonacci spiral or golden spiral (aesthetically pleasing), which is the expectation of idols Set me free from these standards is my interpretation. 💜 Also notice how he’s constantly surrounded or enclosed in the video (contained) by the dancers, so creative!
I saw this as a declaration and rebirth. That he will not let his opps (fears & doubts) control him anymore. He is setting himself free of all that. I love it because he has struggled with doubting himself as being good enough and the song is such a great anthem. I love the imagery of him being boxed in throughout the choreography, then he reaches out like in ‘Lie’ choreography and reminiscent of ‘The Birth of Adam’. And at the end it is as if he has finally broken out of a shell and been born anew.
Jimin is not the choreographer. It's Sienna Lalau who runs the dance group The Lab in LA. She also choreographed the On Kinetic Manifesto music video for BTS. She is brilliant. There is a behind-the-scenes "making of" video on Bangtan TV, and Jimin says it was his idea for the lettering on his chest. It is a poem in German by Rilke, the translated title is "I live my life in growing circles". The poem is beautiful and fits the lyrics of Jimin's song. They actually built that set, it was not a green screen. And I believe it was shot in Korea. Glad to see another Jimin bias being born into this world. 💜
Sienna Lalau w/ the Lab was a contributer in the choreography. The other contributers were Lee ByungEun, Yoon SeungEun and Kim Minsung who are also performance directors of Hybe/BHE.
I think the autotune is used to heighten the feeling that he has different voices, and all are part of his dialogue. This really is his personal manifesto.
I would suggest that you listen to and maybe react to Jimin's solo work prior to this. Songs 'LIE' and 'SERENDIPITY' especially. LIE is my all time favorite.
Sienna Lalau participated in the choreography, likely with the in-house choreographers at Big Hit. She’s 22 and has choreographed multiple things for BTS and it’s members solo works (Dionysus, ON, Chicken Noodle Soup for j-hope, Lollapalooza choreo for j-hope, Run BTS, and now this). She was 17-18 when she worked with BTS the first time, and she always works as a background dancer for BTS live performances (Speak Yourself at the Rose Bowl, Permission to Dance in both LA and Vegas, and at Lolla for j-hope). Lots of callbacks to past BTS music here , both in lyrics and choreo: MOTS (ON, Black Swan), Lie (Jimin solo on the BTS Wings album). Notice the panopticon (prison) that is the set, the Golden Ratio (spiral Jimin dances into), and the butterfly imagery of the choreo that others have mentioned (BTS have a song called “Butterfly” off the album “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt. 2).
BTS is still under contract as a group and will still be when they finish their mandatory S Korean military service in 2025 (which is the reason for their break.) They happily renewed their contract a few years ago. Jin and J-Hope are already in the military now and the others are expected to follow soon. Yoongi is currently finishing up his sold out solo world tour. They have all stated, clearly and emphatically many times, that they are, and always will still be, BTS. They are a family. They have said they look forward to being on stage together again as soon as possible. In fact when Western media was going nuts about them “breaking up” they said it felt very scary and confusing to them, because they have been more than clear about that not being the case at all, and they went online to reassure fans. They have also all done solo work since their earliest days as a band and there are now 5 mixtapes and 4 albums of original solo work from different members, as well as many solo singles, collabs and OTS work. Jungkook and V are expected to release solo albums before enlisting this year as well. BTS has never stifled or restricted their individual creativity. On the contrary, they describe their process as something akin to a year-round music camp where the members and their staff all help each other grow and create. They are all each other’s biggest fans and have attended each other’s solo music video shoots, done cameos in videos and gone to each other’s solo live performances.
Just so you know…… most of the above is not normal in the Korean music industry, just as it isn’t normal in the global music industry. The amount of creative freedom and control they have had since day one as teenagers is revolutionary. And that’s exactly the point. Their producer Mr Bang, is a visionary, a revolutionary who wanted to topple the abusive industry. To do it, he “simply” assembled 7 of the most extraordinarily talented and emotionally intelligent young artists on the planet, and then for the most part let them set their own path. He said he gave them one requirement “The music must tell your real inner stories.” That’s it. The company motto is “Music and Artists for Healing.” Their mission is to spread love and healing around the world through music. Their bond is extraordinary. The relationships BTS has with one another is somewhat of a magical synergy. They say it feels to them like it was fate. Mr Bang says he doesn’t even know how it happened or he would do it again. These guys are legendary already. Now the biggest band on the planet, who have broken more world records than anyone and are close to being the most awarded musical artists in global history, and their music is genre defying and transformational in so many ways. They are so much more than just a band. They are the center of a global social movement. They have spoken at the UN General Assembly three times, and at the White House. Namjoon was just named to the Korean Dept of Defense in a critical outreach role for their sensitive international war remains recovery project with N Korea and China. Korea just finished the Festa celebration of the 10th anniversary of BTS’ debut and all of Seoul turned purple (major landmarks lit etc) which is BTS & ARMYs color, and there was a massive fireworks display, weeks of events all over and many international visitors. Nearly half a million people attended final day events in a single park. Korea also just issued the first ever Korean Commemorative postage stamps featuring living artists, BTS. They call them National Heroes. I really recommend an introduction video to better understand who and what they are. The intros by Taylor Mari, Ida S and xCeleste are all excellent and all cover different ground. They were also just named as the only musicians on the inaugural Legacy Makers 100 list, for companies whose brands are making a long term positive contribution to people and society rather than just short term market value.

Anyways this is just an interpretation Not everything that is stated here is the exact truth Afterall anyone can interpret the song on their own so feel free to disagree with me.
Actually Jimin explained it, to qoute The singer explained to CoS that the title is a wink a song on bandmate Suga’s 2020 D-2 mixtape from alter ego Agust D. “There isn’t a connection, and we weren’t trying to divide part one or part two,” he said. “But since it turns out my song talks about freedom and moving forward, and SUGA’s song talks about some of the stories that come before, I thought it would be good to come after that.” Asked to break down the message of the track - which he described as having a light/dark, black/white energy - Jimin said he focused on the concepts of “determination, passion, and overcoming” and that the title is about him, well, setting himself free. “So I thought it was important that I be the one to set myself free - not someone else,” he said. “In the end, I’m the one who has to set myself free.”
One thing I can assure you that BTS is that they won't use green screen unless necessary. They will always put a production that you feel it is a green screen but it is not. They may shoot in studio and such but the set they always put out is quite similar to the natural surroundings.👌 The set was solely built for this mv and it was inspired in an ancient prison called panopticon. The camera they used was a camera attached to cranes. It was usually used in action movies.😊 You should watch the shoot sketch of this music video. It was quite awesome.👌 The choreography was done by Sienna Lalau, She choreographed the ON Kinetic Manifesto Film 😊 that's one I heard.😅 Enjoyed your reaction.
I truly enjoy all your BTS and their individual work reactions. I also can't wait for you to react to Jimin's second new music video for Like Crazy. Also he was guest on Jimmy Fallon last night and performed the whole dance choreography. It's epic really.
React to the Shooting Sketch for behind the scenes, you’ll see that it’s not green screen and see how the MV was shot and it’s really amazing and appreciate it more.
People have already responded to you about the choreography but I WILL add that because this is Jimin’s solo album, he has a big say/influence on the aesthetics and look of his mv.
Because he is under dog before this is his story ,now they can show the haters he can fly and he doesn’t careofwhat ever they say wow I’m with you Jimin 🎉 good at last you show you’reself the guy who is love by so many love you 🥰
All of BTS receive hate but jimin receives more hate and death threats than any of them… combined with his well known perfectionist tendencies and his past self doubt this track seems to represent his inner voices. Going insane to stay sane is a quote from On kinetic manifesto.. the butterfly metaphor runs through BTS’ works . ( most recently on J-hope’s on the street track with j Cole) His chest is covered with the entire German poem I live my life in ever widening circles by Rainer Maria Rilke I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world. I may not complete this last one but I will give myself to it. I circle around God, around the primordial tower. I’ve been circling for thousands of years and I still don’t know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song? Written in 1899 Jimin chose it because he felt thenatic similarities.
Few additions to your analysis which I personally take from this song: 1. The set design portray panopticon which is also call an ideal prison. The idea is that the person in this prison could be seen to everyone but he himself could not know whether he's watched or not at that moment. This makes the person to behave better as he presumes somebody is looking at him at every moment. Basically this is the reference to the lack of privacy and necessity to behave the certain way. 2. If you look at moves of dancers they 'praying', repeat what Jimin does (reference to ARMY) or aggressively point at him (haters). But basically these are his prisoners who are constantly looking after Jimin. 3. There are different layers of autotune. For me personally the most modified one is the voice of 'BTS Jimin', his stage image he was showing to his fans during all this years which 'hides' his real voice. In the song this modified voice sings 'not yet' or 'better me' in a background which showcase Jimin's internal battle and fear of showing his true self. But in the end he's finally free
The spiral the dancers create represents The golden spiral which is a pattern created based on the concept of the golden ratio-a universal law that represents the “ideal” in all forms of life and matter. In fact, it’s often cited as an example of the connection between the laws of mathematics and the structure of living things. The more we understand the math behind the symbol, the more we’ll appreciate its appearances in nature and arts. As another army pointed out the golden ratio appears off and on butterflies and as he breaks out of that spiral he sings the lyrics "Fly away, butterfly". The writing on Jimin's body is a German poem. Here's the text. Ich lebe mein Leben Poet/Lyricist: Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) I live my life in growing orbits which move out over the things of the world. Perhaps I can never achieve the last, but that will be my attempt. I am circling around God,around the ancient tower, and I have been circling for a thousand years, and I still don’t know if I am a falcon, or a storm, or a great song. Not only was your set information wrong but when you watch the making of music video you'll see that they actually use Steadicam and crane cams. Not drones.
Choreography for Set Me Free Pt.2 was a team effort. It was choreographed by Hybe/Bighit in-house choreographers (Lee ByungEun, Yoon SeongEun, Min), along with Sienna Lalau of The Lab Studios.
this was choreographed by Sienna lalau girl a well known dance troop called The Lab. She's also the choreographer for their music video ON: Kinetic Manifesto Film and just the first person you see in close up at the very beginning of that music video with the drum.
I love your perspective of you've to Jimin's video. I'm 3 months into watching and listening to BTS. I'm from the Beatles era. The autotune is absolutely necessary for the dual conversation. That was obvious. Have you seen the 38 foot crane camera? Cool your very nice jets a bit. You sound so positive. It scares me. Anyway, thanks for reacting to Jimin's incredible mv. I'm so glad he can now step out (temporarily or permanently) of the wondrous crucible of BTS. They are all so exceptional to be in one group! Whew!
The auto tune is used to distinguish between his past self that he’s breaking free from. It’s definitely a stylistic choice for that reason. It’s also not a drone but an actual cameraman who is moving in and out of the shot. 💜
I think you need to know his solo song live performance 'LIE' which I believe is the prequel to this song. He's talking to himself.. he has been struggling to break free from the lie he had created which is his public persona.
Thank you for reacting to JIMIN!!💜💜💜 I love this song and it's meaning. Also I recommend "SERENDIPITY" AND "LIE" BY JIMIN. Both are absolutely beautiful songs and his voice is stunning!💜💜
Not since Busby Berkley. BTS as a whole uses the grandeur of these huge dance numbers. Jimin adds so much grit. A great contrast to the beauty of his dance and voice. The auto tune helps add grit to his angelic vocals. Suits the message.
I love your reviews - don't worry if you misinterpret something! We all do that and enjoy your enthusiasm and theories. You might already know this, but the script on Jimin's toros is a poem by German poet by Rainer Maria Rilke. It says "“I live my life in ever-widening circles that stretch themselves out over all the things. I won’t, perhaps, complete the last one, but I intend on trying. I circle around God, around the ancient tower, and I circle for thousands of years; and I don’t know, yet: am I a falcon, a storm, or a mighty song.” I like that the poem references circles, just like the cover of Jimin's album. Also, RM posted the poem on his social media account in the past, so perhaps that is where Jimin discovered it.
actually none of this is green screen, HYBE studio built this whole scene from scratch. Jimin didn't want green screen, they have clips and photos of HYBE studios building everything. The camera is used for car racing and they rented it.
I have to say, there were several moments I felt like Remington was almost *proud. I definitely think he’s Army. I guess he must be if he feels like his aorta might rupture… 😅 Always enjoy your reactions 💜💜💜
The song was written during the Pandemic. He went through a depression. He wanted to break free from that. It's not about him breaking free as a solo artist from BTS. Good guess though. He wanted to break free of his oppositions too. Haters, criticism, death threats, hardships, made up stories about him, rumors, and those challenges.
I find the confidence in how you speak regarding the set, the drone and interpretation of his intentions as facts and conclusions amusing. Check the behind the scenes. Hope you keep learning and growing!
Thanks for your reaction. As always very thoughtful. I feel like the auto tune is almost like his Second voice. Its mainly used in the verses and his normal voice is used in the chorus. Its funny that you mentioned Fake Love because this was directed by Oui Kim who directed Both Fake Love and Black Swan. Lastly it's part 2 only because Suga already has a song with the same title, but its not necessarily related. Hope to see you react to more.💜💜💜
No Jimin didn't choreograph it. Sienna Lalau from The Lab choreographed it. The backup singers are from The Lab. She choreographed "On", "Dionysus", "RunBTS, and Grammy performance of "Butter". She has performed on stage with them as a backup dancer for Permission to Dance concerts in the U.S. She was a backup dancer for JHope in his Lollapalooza concert. I think she collaborated with some of his choreography. I have no doubt she'll do more. BTS loves her.
I’d love for you guys to react to the shooting sketches of the music videos you’ve just watched so far :D you can see for yourself what’s green screen and what isn’t
erm has no one said it's a break not a hiatus they are very different things(they have never used the word hiatus and have corrected people who have several times). Also you probably don't know but all the members always talk about then they're back as a group, the current situation is temporary year it will be for about 2 years but they are very clear that they will be back as a group. That's also why as 'solo' artist they're all saying ' "name" from BTS' so it's very clear they're very much still a group.
Not a drone. But good guess. They already dropped the Behind the Scenes which will show you the cameras they used. Not sure what set you're talking about. But this set was designed and built for this video. The concept created by Jimin.
@@ideagirl I watched a reaction video of Chase & Remmington of choreography video ... one of them explained a lot where everything was filmed ... regarding a drone team, I saw a list of staff all involved (directors, ... all camera teams ) officially publised like the list of the songs in the album
In simplistic terms this is his ‘love letter’ (a big F*ck you!!!) to his haters, lol…and the negativity in his head! Genius!!! And to be clear, he is not demanding to be set free of BTS and his members! They have every intention of coming back together after their military service - they are on hiatus - they have not disbanded.
Overall, I appreciate that you both listened & watched with open minds. Unfortunately, everything you said in the beginning about the filming technique & the Volume - the famous 360 degree chromakey set - was incorrect. This was shot on gimbaled rigs in a specially constructed, physical sound stage in South Korea. No drones, no Disney, no CG. I watched the rest of your reaction, but it def. made it harder to listen to what you had to say after seeing how confidently wrong you can be. P.S. Dude, listen to Orff's, "Carmina Burana," it's glorious.
@@RemmingtonCampbell 😅 I think people are so offended by the suggestion that it was a bunch of green screens because we saw the photos & videos the set designers posted of how much went into the production. It was so nerve wracking and scary seeing them move each multi story section into place one by one!
@@RemmingtonCampbell LOL I literally just wrote & deleted a sentence about you. I said you had some insightful things to say, perhaps because you were unfettered by trying to sound like you know what you're talking about. Sorry.
These comments are so helpful. We go into these things blind, and most of the learning happens in the comments section. It’s refreshing to get some solid, honest feedback. Thank you for that. The making of video sounds cool. We’ll have to check it out.
BTS cusses in their songs. They just don't do it as much as in their solo work. After all, they are a hip hop Idol group since debut on 2013. JIMIN specifically used the autotune for his personal preference to express certain feelings. Check out the behind the scenes. This was an album he wrote on his feelings during the pandemic, in the order of how he felt them. And you can't tell me that this wasn't artistic. And his lyrics were deep.
It's not a green screen. Here is the behind the scenes and this is in South Korea. I think to give the right information, you could do a reaction to the behind the scenes. Jimin - Set Me Free Pt. 2 MV - Shooting Sketch - ruclips.net/video/MnK-Ahuu3uU/видео.html
I have to hand it to you You are awfully confident about things that you're not aware of. True this is not the title song on the album but only a pre-release from the album. There is no Pt. 1. Suga from BTS has a song called Interlude: Set Me Free. The two songs are unrelated, although one might draw some parallels between the subject matter, but since they share the same title that is why this is called Pt. 2. Jimin has said in an interview that this song and the album are about his emotions, depression and state of mind during the pandemic.
I think you need to know his solo song live performance 'LIE' which I believe is the prequel to this song. He's talking to himself.. he has been struggling to break free from the lie he had created which is his public persona.

Obviously, I was VERY wrong about the set in this video. Sorry for spreading bad info everyone! Thank you so much for letting me know that I was mistaken! I’ll try to do better and sound less confident about things that I don’t know for sure. I appreciate you all always! 💜

This is basically symbolizing how they live their life as an idol
It might be just a coincidence however the Set Me Free Pt.2 poster is exactly the same thing, the background image represents a panopticon hence just like the first line of Serendipity (Jimin's solo song) "None of this is a coincidence"
Since even his TikTok vids and vlives has hidden hints in them except that they're very hard to find.
For example, the time when Jimin posted TikTok dance vids were he danced to BTS old songs in medley, there's nothing much going on except that he picked very interesting background, one is near the skyscraper window, one is with a very conspicuous ceiling above him, and the last one is the one with a white bookshelf
Of course there's nothing strange about it well not untill he dropped this MV that it finally clicked
All the background were he had been dancing on those TikTok dance are quite similar cause the bookshelf, the window, the ceiling are all in white and they all have those bunch of squares being sack together that symbolize PANOPTICON which is the prison that Jimin is symbolizing in the MV.
Anyways since those hints aren't easy to notice there are still a lot of people who didn't even know that he had already foreshadowed his album since long time ago.
Also I don't think the set me free he is referring to is to break away from the band or expanding his solo music career
But from the hate and everything else he has been dealing with throughout the years.
It must be noted that Jimin is the most hated member in BTS and he has suffered a lot like receiving death threats and etc. but anyways for me I guess this is just his way of breaking free of himself.
Yes, I typed it right, it's himself
The 'him' that others are trying to portray as him and the part of 'him' that he was always facing against.
It's quite complex to explain. But should I just say that his greatest opponent was always himself? Not the haters, or whatever there is.
From his first solo song alone called Lie
He already showed that he is in inner conflict with himself and he can't escape
And that lie continues to grow in Love yourself: Serendipity and everything after that.
Face yourself
Face your shadow
Face your face
I guess that's probably why in the covers of his face album, there's this circles resembling ripples of water
Cause when you look at the ripples of water, you would FACE the reflection of your FACE
Which is genius 👏
Unfortunately, a lot of people wouldn't get it and would just look at his cover like it's just a plain cover with no creativity or whatsoever.
Without knowing it's actually a masterpiece.
If you still think this songs aren't connected to the other songs, you should look at the lyrics cause he literally copied the line "Going insane to stay sane" from ON by BTS which talks about fighting and embracing the pain. Secondly, is the
choreography. He also recreated the iconic choreography in 'Lie' were he is lifted up while he sang the lines "Caught it a lie, please find the me when I was pure, I can't escape from this lie, please bring me back my smile"
"Caught in a lie, please take me out of this hell, I CAN'T ESCAPE from his pain, please save me I'm being punished"
Anyways, Set Me Free is literally like Lie part 2, cause he is finally breaking free from his cocoon.
Also in that spiral also symbolize a caterpillar being curled up, then at the end of the MV they would surround him and lift him up pretty much looking like a cocoon and when he broke free he already changed outfit (a.k.a he transformed like a butterfly)
( Those actions are like METAMORPHOSIS of a butterfly which also means the change of form in an individual after hatching or birth)
It's also interesting how the surprise outfit change is also connected to his third solo song Filter were he 'magicaly, changes clothes.
Just like the changes of outfits in Filter, his clothing in this MV gradually changes, from fully clothed, till he gradually revealed some of his skin, till in the 2nd verse were he fully exposed his skin with all these tattoos written in German from a german poem by Rainer Maria Rilke in the late 1800s that says: "I live my life in ever-widening circles that stretch themselves out of all things, I won't perhaps complete the last one but I intend on trying"
"I circle for thousands of years and I don't know, yet am I a falcon, a storm, or a might song".
The poem ask 3 questions:
1. Am I a falcon that meant to fly above everyone
2. Am I an upcoming storm meant to destroy everyone
3. Or am I a great song meant for everyone to love
Anyways when he he was lifted, he magically re-appeared with white clothes.
So yeah, the changes of outfits just represents the gradual change or the growth of himself and the last part is were he completely broke free (He's not just revealing his skin to show off)
Lastly, I'll explain why he decides to symbolize himself as a butterfly and not other animals like a bird that symbolize freedom.
The reason is simple, he is afraid of butterflies.
So technically FACE your fears
Embrace your shadow and
become what you are afraid of
In his case, the butterfly which is himself
So yeah the MV and the song is not as simple as most people think.
"Look at me now
I won't stop even if they mock me
Going insane to stay sane
Raise your hands for the past me
Now set me Free "
Also the reason why he deliberately uses the auto-tune, it's not because to fix his vocals but for artistic purposes but although some already figured it out cause it's easy to tell.
They don't actually realize how brilliant he's been using the auto-tune.
As you can see in MV there's this call and response section were his 2 kind of voice exist.
So technically he's using the auto-tune to duet with himself. And in the last part were his voice gets muffled, it's intentional cause it emphasize that he's like trapped in the cocoon (dancers) and is struggling to get free
Also I think the one in Auto-tune represents his inner thoughts, or the words he'd probably never say out loud
I mean have you ever heard him curse before? Or addressed his haters for all the things they did?
Nope and Nope
And also just from the first lyrics alone, "I got a good time, time to get mine"
"Hennessy and Night"
"I get feel low still stuck on the maze"
"Hey, fool get out of my way"
"F*CK off, I'm on my way"
Those are clearly sides of himself that he never get to show cause WE put him in that cage or a character that wasn't fully himself which is why he's caught in a lie and now he wants to break free. So yeah Set him Free!
@@rafaelsmith5737 WOW ARMY! 💜 you're amazing
It’s all good my man💜
Doesn't bother me that you were mistaken.
It's a testament to his writing that we can all use it as a manifesto "eff off, here I am in all my glory" ✊💜
He's known to be notoriously hard on himself, this is him telling that inner voice to shut up.
Exactly! 💜
🙌🙌👏👏👏
This 💜
Good explanation.
Yes, he's breaking away from himself
The set was built specifically for Jimin a “circular prison” to reflect his inner struggles. Much of camera work is done by Bighit camera operators who are as integral to the performance as choreography. Highly recommended you check out the MV shoot sketch so actually see set and cameras. BTS almost always puts out MV shoot sketches and that would be great to view before making your analysis re set design etc. Really enjoy your reactions!💜
There were even pictures and a video to show when they took the set-up down.
Widening Circles
Written by Rainer Maria Rilke
Germany (1875 - 1926) Timeline
Translated and read by Joanna Macy
Listen
I live my life in widening circles
that reach out across the world.
I may not complete this last one
but I give myself to it.
I circle around God, around the primordial tower.
I’ve been circling for thousands of years
and I still don’t know: am I a falcon,
a storm, or a great song?
They actually built the set for the MV. Jimin mentions it in the behind the scenes :)
Also, more than making a statement about becoming someone different, Jimin used his new freedom as a solo artist to finally break away from people's negative opinions and criticisms of the person he already is.
Thank you. Excellent info. 💜

Um……they built this set (a panopticon -a circular prison)from scratch. The set designer posted pictures on his instagram. I like your enthusiasm about it……but pretty sure there was no green screen.. there is a behind the scenes out and you can hear Jimin talk about building the set to his specification. He also explains what the sing is about
Could you provide the link to the set designer? Where is that set located? Any other info?
The spiral is the Fibonacci spiral or golden spiral (aesthetically pleasing), which is the expectation of idols
Set me free from these standards is my interpretation. 💜
Also notice how he’s constantly surrounded or enclosed in the video (contained) by the dancers, so creative!
Thank you 😊
우리지민이는 Amazing 한 IDOL
Thank you for your reaction! You’re on point about their chapter 2 and showing who they are. They actually built that set for Jimin’s music video
Just so you know……
most of the above is not normal in the Korean music industry, just as it isn’t normal in the global music industry.
Thanks for the reaction ,guys ❤️🩹🫂

Anyways this is just an interpretation
Not everything that is stated here is the exact truth
Afterall anyone can interpret the song on their own so feel free to disagree with me.
Actually Jimin explained it, to qoute
The singer explained to CoS that the title is a wink a song on bandmate Suga’s 2020 D-2 mixtape from alter ego Agust D.
“There isn’t a connection, and we weren’t trying to divide part one or part two,” he said. “But since it turns out my song talks about freedom and moving forward, and SUGA’s song talks about some of the stories that come before, I thought it would be good to come after that.”
Asked to break down the message of the track - which he described as having a light/dark, black/white energy - Jimin said he focused on the concepts of “determination, passion, and overcoming” and that the title is about him, well, setting himself free. “So I thought it was important that I be the one to set myself free - not someone else,” he said. “In the end, I’m the one who has to set myself free.”
It'll be better if you've reacted to Jimin's Lie from the Wings Album to understand it
There is a mv sketch that shows behind the scenes of filming that you may enjoy.
And on his chest is (in German) a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. The title is translated in English to “I live my life in widening circles”.
“Like he owns the clouds”. I love that. Very appropriate for our resident angel.
One thing I can assure you that BTS is that they won't use green screen unless necessary. They will always put a production that you feel it is a green screen but it is not. They may shoot in studio and such but the set they always put out is quite similar to the natural surroundings.👌
The set was solely built for this mv and it was inspired in an ancient prison called panopticon. The camera they used was a camera attached to cranes. It was usually used in action movies.😊
You should watch the shoot sketch of this music video. It was quite awesome.👌 The choreography was done by Sienna Lalau, She choreographed the ON Kinetic Manifesto Film 😊 that's one I heard.😅
Enjoyed your reaction.
The "part 2" is actually a connection to Suga. He had a solo song called "Interlude: Set Me Free".
Masterpiece 🔥💜
The set was built for Jimin!!
I know! I was so wrong 😰🫣
( most recently on J-hope’s on the street track with j Cole)
His chest is covered with the entire German poem
I live my life in ever widening circles by Rainer Maria Rilke
I live my life in widening circles
that reach out across the world.
I may not complete this last one
but I will give myself to it.
I circle around God, around the primordial tower.
I’ve been circling for thousands of years
and I still don’t know: am I a falcon,
a storm, or a great song?
Written in 1899
Jimin chose it because he felt thenatic similarities.
Unfortunately, Jimin, and Namjoon receives the same amount of vile hatred that makes me wanna puke. It's atrocious
Few additions to your analysis which I personally take from this song:
Thank you for the reaction guys! Jimins
"Like crazy" MV is out now. React to that please, to see a different side to our beautiful Jimin.❤💯
'enveloping' is the perfect description since the song is about being suffocated by the pandemic.
Ich lebe mein Leben
Poet/Lyricist:
Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926)
I live my life in growing orbits
which move out over the things of the world.
Perhaps I can never achieve the last,
but that will be my attempt.
I am circling around God,around the ancient tower,
and I have been circling for a thousand years,
and I still don’t know if I am a falcon, or a storm,
or a great song.
Not only was your set information wrong but when you watch the making of music video you'll see that they actually use Steadicam and crane cams. Not drones.
Thank you for your reaction 😊
Did you notice the butterfly life cycle in the choreography?
jimin Lie, Serendipity, Filter, Promise, Christmas Love. Vocal: The Truth Untold, Zero O'Clock, so many more...
Thanks for sharing your thoughts 💜! Bangtantv also posted the sketch of the MV.
Choreography for Set Me Free Pt.2 was a team effort. It was choreographed by Hybe/Bighit in-house choreographers (Lee ByungEun, Yoon SeongEun, Min), along with Sienna Lalau of The Lab Studios.
Where did you get the info on the choreographers? Could you provide a link? I couldn't find the info anywhere. Thanks.
It's not green screen lol. They built that set. You can actually see them build it from the ground up in their instagram and the shooting sketch :)
this was choreographed by Sienna lalau girl a well known dance troop called The Lab.
I saw a post where they had a crane mounted on an SUV. I think for the top-down shots
I really enjoy your reactions & look forward to more in the future. Borahae
I think you need to know his solo song live performance 'LIE' which I believe is the prequel to this song. He's talking to himself.. he has been struggling to break free from the lie he had created which is his public persona.
Jimin👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️
Love your reaction and analysis, I hope you do one with whole album reaction, new subscriber here.💜
I got IL fortuna vibes from the intro also.
me encanto la reacción y como hablan de jimin ✨
Set me free part 1 was released by Suga/Agust D in 2020.
Obrigada pela reação, estou completamente obcecada por essa música e o MV, Jimin arrasou demais, ele é muito talentoso, Borahae guys 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🇧🇷
Finally. Been waiting for you to react to Jiminetic Manifesto!
Amei a reação
actually none of this is green screen, HYBE studio built this whole scene from scratch. Jimin didn't want green screen, they have clips and photos of HYBE studios building everything. The camera is used for car racing and they rented it.
I have to say, there were several moments I felt like Remington was almost *proud. I definitely think he’s Army. I guess he must be if he feels like his aorta might rupture… 😅 Always enjoy your reactions 💜💜💜
great reaction
The song was written during the Pandemic. He went through a depression. He wanted to break free from that. It's not about him breaking free as a solo artist from BTS. Good guess though. He wanted to break free of his oppositions too. Haters, criticism, death threats, hardships, made up stories about him, rumors, and those challenges.
I find the confidence in how you speak regarding the set, the drone and interpretation of his intentions as facts and conclusions amusing. Check the behind the scenes. Hope you keep learning and growing!
Can you guys react to "like crazy" it’s also a song in his new album
We may have recorded a reaction to this today 😉🤫
His album drops 1 pm kst / 12 am est
BTS works with choreopraphers, so I am sure that Jimin did also. But he does have input on it and may request to change parts.
Guys it's not a drone , react to thé shoot scketch of thé MV , you Can sée better and jimin talk about thé song
They're not using drones. When he's lifted I thinks it's just the combinationof wide angle lens and the vertigo effect ( used a lot in here)
Please react to Set Me Free Performance There are three recorded versions and each is unique on stage
I’d love for you guys to react to the shooting sketches of the music videos you’ve just watched so far :D you can see for yourself what’s green screen and what isn’t
6:37 don’t worry guys, they gonna come back as a whole in 2025 after their military service 😄
What will happen to his heart when he listens to Lie? 😄
erm has no one said it's a break not a hiatus they are very different things(they have never used the word hiatus and have corrected people who have several times). Also you probably don't know but all the members always talk about then they're back as a group, the current situation is temporary year it will be for about 2 years but they are very clear that they will be back as a group.
That's also why as 'solo' artist they're all saying ' "name" from BTS' so it's very clear they're very much still a group.
💜🥰💜
React his Lie and Serendipity and filter highly recommended
Thank you for an enjoyable reaction. Do have a listen to Dimash Kudaibergen singing SOS dun entresse in 2021. His voice soars. 😊
Not a drone. But good guess. They already dropped the Behind the Scenes which will show you the cameras they used. Not sure what set you're talking about. But this set was designed and built for this video. The concept created by Jimin.
Drones were used as well ... the whole drone team was published
@aknedz explain. No drones shown in behind the scenes.
@aknedz the drone team was published? Do you know where they filmed this? The set?
@@ideagirl I watched a reaction video of Chase & Remmington of choreography video ... one of them explained a lot where everything was filmed ... regarding a drone team, I saw a list of staff all involved (directors, ... all camera teams ) officially publised like the list of the songs in the album
💜💜💜💜
There were two versions of Seven, not an edited version. Original & Explicit.
You should check out RM solo and hope solo songs
💜💜💜💜💜💜
Overall, I appreciate that you both listened & watched with open minds. Unfortunately, everything you said in the beginning about the filming technique & the Volume - the famous 360 degree chromakey set - was incorrect. This was shot on gimbaled rigs in a specially constructed, physical sound stage in South Korea. No drones, no Disney, no CG.
I watched the rest of your reaction, but it def. made it harder to listen to what you had to say after seeing how confidently wrong you can be.
P.S. Dude, listen to Orff's, "Carmina Burana," it's glorious.
This made me laugh so hard. I love when Chase gets a good roast.
Do me next.
💜
Not a green screen
More BTS content??? Waiting patiently.
It’s on it’s way. Stay tuned. We’ve got a bunch of stuff that we’ve recorded and are working to put out.
🙂just subscribe jimin my bias 💜
They built it I believe. ruclips.net/video/XsMLvOqsly4/видео.html Guess we now have 2 of these sets in existence then lol
The set was designed to br circular prison. This him talking to opposition to him and Bts
