Get on it council members! How many more people have to be injured or killed before you take some serious action??

the owners of the dogs need to be held accountable. doesn't matter what breed or kind of dog. a man was killed. his family is devastated. what kind of sprays do we need to carry to protect ourselves?

Honestly I've never seen the dog situation out of control like I've seen it here. So many stories where a dog attacks and no one is accountable! It needs to stop, as a dog owner I always hold my dog on a leash in public spaces,I expect everyone doing the same thing

I have bred and raised Great Danes here for over 20 years and my neighbors never saw them running the streets like all their poi dogs do. Had an Akita/Chow attack me, only I was quicker and did a TORO! side step and clocked him on the head, he turned, looked at me, and went home. Getting the county to do ANYTHING is a joke in a LONG LINE of county and state jokes. DOH? a joke. Public Works, joke, Planning, joke.
I sat and talked story with Mitch on Monday for an hour. Loose dogs was one item. I asked him if I could shoot my neighbor's dog when it hops over a rock wall and is going for one of my bitches in heat, which happens several times a year with more than one. So it's a constant problem with IRRESPONSIBLE dog owners. Like the people across the street from me.
I don't want to shoot their dog, it's not the dog's fault doing what dogs do. But if my bitch gets hapai by their poi mutt someone will be sued.

How about some solution to the constantly barking dogs that are in nearly every subdivision and on every street? Some can be heard over a mile away, and there's seemingly no way to get away from them.

Too bad all the politicians wants to limit a person's ability to protect themselves in Hawaii. It's a rural county and there is scary stuff. Carry a gun or pepper spray. Added laws only provide for a police response to a ln incident. It does not prevent them. Only you can protect you

There are dangerous stray dogs in Pahoa. I lived in Nanawale earlier this year and more than once a dog almost bit me while I rode my bike. I bought a dog whistle, but these dogs have been mistreated and they do bad things now...

I grew up in Alaska and in rural areas you just don’t invite the stray dogs in, have a way to deter unwanted animals too and protection of you & your home is important
I am deeply sorry for the family dealing with this death 😢 nothing helps with that

If these people were self reliant, which is what Hawaiian residents should be, this situation would not have escalated. What you want more laws to push out the original settlers in an area? Scared that animals in a rural area will lower your property values? Just live and let live. You're in Hawaii, you won, mind your own business and stop trying to increase my taxes to improve your situation. Laws that would address this do not prevent Anything. It only provides response

Property values? No, lowered this mans life expactancy! Live and let live doesn't work if your dog is attacking someone does it?
Self-reliant? So what? Walk around with a machette?

@@punapeter your first thought of self protection is a machete? That shows you're ignorant to actually living safe, while also keeping those safe around you. Or are you trying to troll and make it seem like self protection is a comical farse that results in people walking around like samurai? Communication with your community will reduce the violence. Carry a concealed weapon or pepper spray. And sue someone if they damage you in some way. You sound like a politician

I’d love to know further, but it could be Any breed.
Owners should be accountable of the training and demeanor that their dogs possess. Thus, should be charged if situations occur like this event did.
I’m sorry for this family’s loss, and any previous individuals affected by ill trained dogs.
(Again, if you don’t have the money &/or time to get and train a dog. DON’T. ADOPT/BUY. ONE.)

@@MichelleNyxRaymond so poor people should not have companionship? These laws don't stop bad things from happening. Punishment is just for your own fuzzy feeling of superiority. I've seen many people get pets, make mistakes and then adjust their lives accordingly. I've seen a few couples unknowingly use dogs to improve their abilities to raise their kids appropriately. Do I feel sorry for the animals that experienced a harsh life so these people could learn, yes. But they have been bred specifically for the use of humans.

@agent00soul48 my neighbors dogs killed my chickens. But I didn't go screaming to the government for help, which will raise taxes and burden the rest of society. Just let them know that next time the dog is not coming home. Why do you need to pay a cop, dog warden, then animal shelter to euthanize the animal? Become self sufficient or rely on mainland politics.

Your post raises more questions than it answers. Would you favor a law if a poor person is eaten? Wouldn't a viscous animal law protect rich and poor? How would you feel if the dogs attacked a child whose family was Hawaiian? I've had dogs all my life. I expect to be held responsible for them and accountable for any damage they might cause. Are you saying I don't need to be?

      @festerallday 4 месяца назад +2

@@jmalexander131 that person should have been better protected. Any law in place would not have stopped an event like that. The laws only punish after the fact. This kind of law is the first step towards breed restrictions. If it wasn't such taboo to be armed in Hawaii this story may have turned out differently. If this was a neighborhood where such an event is possible then one should have the foresight to, at least, carry pepper spray.
