Both countries are incredible. Greece is my favorite country in the world, but Italy is great too. Both countries so breathtaking and luckily next to eachother
Athens metro is a model metro that has been appreciated, praised and has been a source of inspiration for the biggest experts in the field. It's real jewel that shouldn't be missed, as it is increasingly seen as one of the most beautiful and original metros in the world!!! The metro is therefore like an art salon under the city turning the journey around Athens into a unique and pleasurable experience, like nowhere else in the world. GREECE IS THE CRADLE OF CIVILIZATION! ... DO NOT FORGET THAT!
This is wonderful. I went to Greece in 1995 and I did not have the opportunity to go to many places that are shown here. Thanks you for this video, now I can see places I never went. Thanks you and have a great youtube!
In SYNTAGMA Station, a sculpture foundry dating from the Classic Era, a cemetery dating back to the sub-Mycenaean and the Byzantine times, baths complex dating back to the roman times, a section of the Peisistranian Aqueduct, the bed of Iridanos River and the ancient road leading from the gates of the wall to the municipalities of Messogaia.
Magna Grecia. I love Grecia, It's very sad to see a country so beautiful in economic crisis, here is born democracy, I think south of Italy, Spain and Greek, are the most wonderful place in Europe, for artistic and cultural heritage, nature, landscape, wild islands, good temperature and special food ,
Juan Pablo de Cordoba Greetings friend from the western colonies! Magna Grecia rocks (even though some 40000 Athenians once tried to eliminate Syracuse) But that is just old stuff, right?
I ate there at 1:55! Greece was probably the friendliest country I have been to in Europe. I hope people are still feeding the strays even though the country fell on harder times. Nice video.
Great video I like Athens City a lot and know it quite well. I don't just stick to the tourist areas and have discovered quite an incredible city that I'm sure once the true Athens catches on to the rest of the world this city will once again become a favorite holiday destination. One thing next time show Kotzia Square and Syntagma Square too. Also do a walk in the following areas: Kifissia, Kefalari, Kolonaki, Gazi, Pangrati, Thessio & some more footage of the National Gardens. Good upload :-)
The Acropolis looks very nice indeed! I like that sort of cities. Cities with a big history. But I like hard cities to. Cities where everything in high tempo goes. A big metro city, million people who lives there. I like cities to see the Acropolis, but the Eiffeltower is also special for me.
I UNDERSTAND..You have to visit Athens in order to have an opinion..There is something magical in that city... One can see the Acropolis and its Parthenon, the ultimate achievement of the city's classical architecture and symbol of greatness, from every part of Athens.Walking through the agora, where all the philosophers walked. .it's just amazing!
At the Acropolis station you can view several continuous friezes, carved in low relief, completed in the decoration of the Parthenon. The Syntagma Station, exhibits include ancient gravestones, a 5th century BC aqueduct, a 5th century AD mosaic and a 2,000-year-old beehive. A geological cross-section is on display, with each layer of earth representing a different historical period.A grave containing a skeleton from the 4th century BC, which lies just a few meters below a 16th century cistern..
I am a greek student,i hale always lived in Piraeus and my 4-5 upcoming ''university'' years will be spent in Athens. I have been to quite a lot of cities both European and American and i have to say that they were more organized, nice squares and status e.t.c. Athens may not be so clean or organized but trust me there is something magical in this city, relics of a glorious past i would say that inspire you to move forward and do something great. Visit Athens, you will get what i say,Peace.
There are many..Royal Olympic Hotel ,Divani Palace Acropolis , Electra Palace Hotel ,Achillion Hotel , Hotel Grande Bretagne, and many many more!..There are more than 200 hotels,in Athens!
One of the keys here is to travel, if possible, off season, especially in large European cities. You get way more quality time as you don't have to deal with the hordes of tourists, the hot weather and you get to walk and take things in.
Everyone is...laughing. Seriously, is everyone in Greece always laughing? That's very cool. I mean, everyone you showed in your video was laughing. When compared to Paris for example, everyone was just walking or taking photos or sth...
I was talking about the impressions you get by visiting that metro..Ancient public baths, metalworking ateliers, aqueducts and cisterns, ancient roads, drainage ditches, scattered graves and cemeteries, and more than 10,000 artifacts. While tunnels for the two subway lines were bored at an average depth of 60 feet, well below the ancient city's remains...DO THEY HAVE ANYTHING LIKE THAT IN EUROPEAN SUBWAYS?...
Athens is a European city . The DEMOCRACY BORN THERE and actived, during ancient times, THE FATHERS OF WESTERN PHILOSOPHY AS Socrates , Aristotle , Plato , etc. The PARTHENON is among one of the most important monuments of the planet and SYMBOL OF CLASSICAL ARCHITECTURE WORLDWIDE . Athens has FANTASTIC SUBURBS so close to sea and the north. The southeast suburbs are gorgeous with beautiful new buildings , sea like being on an island, SPACIOUS ROADS , BIG STREETS AND CLEAN . NORTHERN SUBURBS are green , clean, with excellent construction and neoclassical buildings. THE CENTER OF ATHENS IS FULL OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES AND HISTORICAL MONUMENTS IN WHICH EVERYBODY CAN BROWSE .
Do you mean the subway metro?..Athens is famous for it's great subway, the best in Europe..During the construction of the metro tunnels, numerous artefacts of archaeological interest were discovered..A REAL museum !
What can I tell you...Athens metro, incorporates the second-oldest metro line in the world, the Athens-Piraeus Electric Railways ISAP S.A., which opened in 1869 and is now part of Line 1,dude..As of December 2010, the system served 33 stations, not counting the four OSE stations on the Airport line. Both Metro lines have passenger connections with ISAP Line 1, Proastiakos, the Athens Suburban Railway and the Athens Tram system. There is a physical connection with ISAP railway at Attiki station.
4.000.000 people leave NOW in this beautiful city.. Athens is so modern and archeological at the same time! If you visit "The Mall,Athens'' It's soo modern and it's got 200 and more shops and cinemas! You should go..
Can I also suggest The Golden Hall Shopping Centre in Athens......It’s very near The Mall but The Golden Hall is much nicer with better products and the restaurants are great!
Another significant archaelogical site revealed through the construction of MONASTIRAKI station. Τhe embedded bed of Iridanos River is one out of the most significant finds of MONASTIRAKI Station. It was confirmed that the area had been in constant use from the Mycenaean Era up to modern times. Buildings, workshops, graves and a variety of water supply and sewage systems were revealed....NOW YOU KNOW A FEW OF THE HUNDREDS OF IMPORTANT THINGS IN THE GREEK METRO! ENJOY! DUDE!
You have no idea dude!.. The Paris Métro is famous for its art nouveau station entrances; while the Athens Metro is known for its display of archeological relics found during construction, plus Ethniki Amyna station line L3, opened in the year 2000, with the art installation Underground Park by Kostas Tsoklis. Several stations also have interesting art, the Dafni station, with both its archeology and art, is worth a visit..ANYTHING ELSE?
Hi great videos of places I may not get to see. I'm a singer/musician and would love to use some of your clips as a setting for some songs I want to put on RUclips - I would of course put a credit to yourself - have you any objection?
Hi Anton, Thanks for the compliment! Unfortunately, if you intend to promote your music and ultimately make a profit off it, then you cannot use my footage in your music clips. The videos may only be used for non commercial purposes. I wish you lots of luck with your music!
GlobeTrotterAlpha Hi, thanks for replying. This is not a commercial venture but hopefully an 'artistic' one. It will only be on RUclips (as your videos already are). You would not want your work to be associated with something you're unhappy with so how about I prepare one, send you the link and if you don't like it, I will remove it and that will be that! Thanks for your consideration. Anton
Yeah, okay. I don't know. What you see in the metro in Paris is indeed not beautiful. I mean this seriously. But your story makes me interested. I was going to visit a random place this winter. Maybe I can go to Athens.
The best in Europe? They have 3 metro lines and 54 stations. Barcelona have 11 metro lines and 165 stations. And Paris 16 metro lines and 301 stations (wikipedia). The best of Europe? I don't know. But, I really have no idea about Athens. After your stories seems like fun to visit Athens haha!
Were these supposed to be the highlights of the city? Sorry to say this but the Greek capital looks like a run down bus stop. It's even got the Soviet-style concrete apartment buildings that haven't been painted or renovated in years.
Klaudia Ελλάδα I just saw Athens, so I think I can say that no, it is not beautiful. It looks like a shithole. I love Greece and Greek culture but you guys need to get your shit together.
Yes, ofcourse. Cities like Athens and maybe Rome (Colosseum) have more history then Paris. But I like the explosive, big city's. City where it is very busy etc. And yes, Athens is very busy too. But not as Paris. Paris and London are for me the most beautiful cities for me. They are the biggest cities of Europe for me. I can not explain exactly what I mean. But one thing: do not think, I don't like Athens. It seems to me a very beautiful city.
Greece is NOT just sea and sun. It's mostly the people, and their day-to-day lives. That's what we're trying to do at www.GoGreekforADay.com : showcase the locals' real life, in Greece
Maybe, I don't understand you. My English is not good. But, when you mean that I cities mentioned by name.. that's not true. I live near Amsterdam. And I have been cities like Paris, London, Barcelona, Lissbon, Prague etc. I have never been New York. But, I don't know about Athens. It looks like a very nice city. I don't know..
Greeks didn't fight more wars then Italians, they just lost more; if you trace Italy's history back to Rome, than you will find that it has fought in thousands of battles over the years, and conquered many nations. Even after Rome fell and lost control of the Mediterranean there were many battles between Italian city states; every other month in some cases... this lasted until the Renaissance after which the states/kingdoms slowly began to form an alliance and later a country :]
Not from the same lineage at all. There were of course Greeks and Armenians that were forced to change their name to a Turkish one and convert to Islam, however they are now considered to be Turkish. Those who rejected such orders were enslaved. This process was known as Turkification. After being ill-treated for slightly under 400 years the tensions between Greece and Turkey are still great due to disputes, such as those in the Aegean because Turkey denies that international law should apply.
I'm thinking of going to Greece, but I thought Athen's was al ot more beautiful than this... The Acropolis looks amazing, and the beaches @ 06:41 also look very nice, but the city itself looks very run down; almost like its in Ukraine haha. I still want to go lol and I think it looks nice but Italy is a lot more beautiful in terms of Renaissance and Medieval Buildings... and I would say Rome is by far more impressive overall ^^
