I think I’m going to integrate this reading tracker into my main bullet journal. My reading habit really took a backseat last year. I want for that not to happen in 2022
I am starting my first reading journal in a square A&O notebook too, and am finding that the number of grid spaces in this works so well with a lot of evenly spaced columns/rows. Loving it! Anyway, here's the list of spreads I've got planned so far, but would love to know what other spread ideas people have: -2022 new release calendar (formatted like a future log) -Book Bingo (I used this as a fun way to include stretch goals and challenges for myself, instead of a regular checklist) -30 before 30 (turning 30 this year... the same idea as 22 in 2022 but in a shorter time frame) -Book of the Month (for anyone who uses BotM - just keeping track of what each month's picks were, what I picked, and my add-ons) -Books & Lala's Literally Dead Book Club and Buzzwordathon Challenge (or whoever's else's book clubs you follow. just to see all the years picks on one page ) -A to Z reading challenge -Owned Backlist (in an effort to hold myself accountable to read the books I bought!) -Wishlist (putting this opposite of my backlist will hopefully discourage me from buying too many new books! maybe implement a reward system for finishing x amount of backlist books = 1 new wishlist book?) -Haul vs Unhaul list (tentative idea - but could help control the physical book intake) -Daily Reading Tracker (not sure how much I will actually like this yet....but going to try it) -Year at a glance stats (number of books read each month, fav book of month, etc)
Loving the systems you're setting in place to not buy too many books. Whenever I go to a bookstore, I have to almost forcefully haul myself out of there before I buy too many books. Thanks for the inspo :)
Maybe a 'previous favorites' spead. Where you show your favorite books from previous years and/or your all time favorites. Or books you want to re-read. Really enjoying the cosy vibes in these videos!
some year-long spread suggestions that i use in my reading journal and that i find really useful: - a little calendar where i color/mark the days that i've read something to keep track - a book bingo that encourages me to read things that i don't usually read so i can complete it (for example: read an autobiography, read a 800 page book etc) - i also have a page for rereads to see what books i go back to
I think it would be really cool to have a spread that goes along with your bracket where you can jot down some thoughts on each of your potential favorites and why they made the list: if they made you think about new perspectives, if the plot took you on an especially emotional journey, etc
One of the best videos I have seen on the topic. Your set-up looks so clean, organized and very elegant. This year will be my first reading journal. I plan to include a brief summary of every book I read so I can go back and refresh my memory, so my suggestion will be to include a set-up summary page. Greetings!!
this looks great! I've been doing a reading page in my bullet journal every month that I call my 'monthly bookshelf' where I list all of the books I've read that month and include categories like publication year, author nationality, format or edition I read from, genre, etc. But seeing this setup definitely makes me want to dedicate a separate bullet journal for reading and include more spreads like these. Some other spread ideas: -a list of books that you want to reread this year -you could make like a bookshelf/library page with all the books you currently own (if you tend to get rid of books, you can do one bookshelf for all the books you have in your library at the beginning of the year and then another one for at the end of the year so you can see what books you've decided to keep or give away and what books you've added to your collection throughout the year)
Never thought of a reading journal until I watched your video.. I really like the scrapbooky idea, simple but your combos feel warm, like a good book. Keep putting your ideas out. Im inspired. Thank you .
I think I’m gonna create a “kit” for special bujo decoration. A set of papers, washi tapes, stickers, pens, that go into one box and kept with the journal to continue adding to spreads with some boundaries, which can keep it beautiful and consistent without becoming overwhelming, and also push/encourage creativity. Thank you for the inspiration. This setup is lovely. 💕
For scrapbooky stuff the only advice I can say is once if you set up a bunch of stuff before sticking having a photo of the collection can help if your likely to forget what you thought looked cool
I use a series tracker and a daily page count tracker (basically like a habit tracker where I color in a square based on the number of pages I read each day), and I find both of those spreads to be really helpful.
I track a looooot of things in my reading journal, but I'm always looking for inspiraton. I've recently posted a flipthrough of my 2021 reading journal for my blog, in 2022 it will be my 4th year with a reading journal and I love it. Some ideas for year long trackers could be: - series I've finished (or made progress on). I read a lot of series, so this is always helpful for me. - audiobooks I listened to/loved. I personally pay for my audiobook service and so I find it nice to keep a track of how much Im using it and also just what books I really enjoyed listening to. - reading goals. I like having all of my thoughts about my goals in one place, otherwise I tend to forget about them. - reading challenges. I don't know if you're into those, but something like the A-Z challenge is always fun for me to fill out through the year. - a 5 star book list, where you can list all of the books you've given 5 stars to through the year. I love the book bracket idea, I might add that to my 2022 journal.
First, I have to comme t on the decor of the beginning of the bujo! I've thought of doing that with my journals, but honestly haven't even finished it lol. This is the second reading bujo I've seen today! I'm so thinking of doing one.
I just got back into my bujo journal and completely started over now that I have a better idea of how to do spreads! I have two "book review journals" set up with just the title and author with the rest of the page blank for a photo of the book and my review for Goodreads. However, I was still looking for ideas on how to incorporate my reading into my bujo, and you gave me so many lovely ideas with this video! Now I'm a new subscriber!
i know that you do your monthly stats already, but maybe a genre tracker would be cool to kind of see which genres you've gravitated to throughout the year or any new ones you've discovered
ive gotten back into reading as a hobby the last year or so and so ive included a few reading spreads in my bullet journal spreads for 2022 - ive told myself if i keep up with those and fill them out i will reward myself with a separate reading journal next year 🥰 loved watching this video as always!
I am also reducing my reading goal this year as a person who reads 100~ a year. Not because of the stress like you, but because I feel like racing to hit these big targets means that we don't have enough time to really consider what we read, digest it, and retain it! First year ever, I'm going to try and read 50 or less by reading slower and more thoughtfully
I love the idea of a bracket to find your favorite book of the year. I think I’ll put that in my reading journal. I’m also going to put a challenge in my journal. I plan to do the Backlist Reading Challenge to really work through all my TBR books that I own but haven’t read yet. I feel like having that in the reading journal will help me track my progress. I also wanted to say I really love your set up!
I love your reading journals. I have always enjoyed using craft paper and stickers which is one of the reasons I look forward to these reading journal videos. Your work is amazing.
I really like using a series tracker in the front of my reading journal as well as a goals page. One thing I did that I absolutely couldn’t go without is a “master list”. It’s two full spreads where I list the title, author, page count, genre, source, rating, and date completed. It’s just a great place to dump info about the books even if I don’t have the time to write an entry for it. It’s also a great place to reference when it’s time to evaluate those yearly goals.
Good afternoon 👋☺️ Plant Based Bride 🌹 so enjoyed watching your reading journal pages begin the journey so looking forward to this year's review of for the books you have read stay safe and be careful 🙏✍️🖌️🎨💌🌹 and enjoy your week too 👍🦄☺️ and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎉🎶
I adored your reading journal videos in 2021. So glad you’re doing it again in 2022. Enjoy seeing your scrap book style as well as your beautiful art. Thank you for the great content !
this is my first year doing a reading bullet journal after getting back into reading this year!! (and i’ve been bullet journaling for a few years) i’m so excited and your reading journal spreads have been some wonderful inspiration, so thank you!
What a gorgeous set up! And as for spread ideas I think it’d be nice to have one with all the information you usually put on your monthly reading logs (genres, authors ethnicities, audiobook/ebook/physical book, rating, etc) I personally think it’s nice to look back and see my year in books and how they reflect how I felt at the time
I'm in the same journal for 2022. Last year, you inspired me to start a reading journal and I love it. Would love to see part 2 if you decide to do it!
#plantmas2021 the square planner is a fun shape. I really like the earth tones in your decorating. If you had a part 2, of course I would watch your thought process. I currently do not have any ideas. Just continue to have fun.
from my perspective, creating a scrapbook is style is a matter of experimenting with different sizes and textures. You go from the bigger piece to the smallest one, trying to break the barriers of whatever shape you're doing. That's my advice from watching all Saricas video hahaha
Your reading journal videos were some of my favorite videos of yours this year!! I really hope you can post more this upcoming year if that’s something you want. I know you’re showing the 2021 reading bracket but are you going to do a flip through of your reading journal? I know some of the spreads are probably personal but I would absolutely love to see it 💕
This is absolutely dazzling! I love how you added a mysterious vibe to something that would be something common- reading. Good luck reaching your goal of 115 books! 🍀
I was waiting for this setup, its always so beautiful and I love that it has scrapbook elements. I love the square format of the journal. Thank you so much being so inspiring 💗#plantmas #plantmas2021
I would *love* to see a part two of this for more reading journal spread ideas. I'm putting together a 2022 reading journal myself this week and series tracker is one spread I'm considering :)
I love the scrapping book style together with the beautiful stickers and the gorgeous pictures you chose! 😍😍😍😍 Looking forward to the one of tomorrow! 🙏🏻😚
Ms. Elizabeth, I definitely have to try this book bracket on my book journal. I love scrapbooking so much, that's why I end up using papers, ephemeras, stickers and washi tapes rather than drawing, coloring and painting. I'll be looking out for your next video and see how you select your absolute favorite book. Thanks
So glad to find this video posted today while I was working on my own Reading Journal! I like to include series of books I'm interested in exploring during the year (novels/graphic novels/manga), a page for book recommendations I receive (as a librarian, I get a lot!), books I physically own that I haven't read yet, any book challenges I am participating in, and a Year in Review page where I keep track of how many books I've read in print/ audiobook/ ebook/ manga/ graphic novel per month - I put it at the beginning so I can see what category I'm favoring and if I want to try mixing it up the next month. I also create pages like you did in your video. It's a lot to set up, but I use them and have enjoyed being able to refer to them throughout the year! This year I've even added a verso page, just for fun :)
I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but maybe a book to adaptation spread? I'm the type of person who prefers to read the book before watching the movie/tv show, so this could be really useful in keeping track of what's being adapted that you might be interested in also watching. I also think it would be interesting to track authors. Sometimes I don't even realize how much I really like an author until I look back and see I've read ten different books by the same person over a surprisingly short period of time. It ends up being a timeline of what authors/genres/writing styles are coming in and out of "fashion" for my taste. It says a lot about where my mental space is at when I look at those periods.
I don't have a reading journal, but I was thinking of adding a page in my bujo for "Characters I met in 2022" (in the books I read). I read a lot of classics and often its hard for me to remember the names of the minor characters. I thought a name, the book, and a sentence of description in a list format could be fun. It might be a nice addition to your Reading Journal, too.
2021 was the first year I kept a reading journal and it was my best year for reading ever. I didn’t know how much I was going to use it so my yearly pages were really minimal, so this year I’m going heavy with the yearly pages, because I know it works well for me.
The spread I have found most useful in my reading journal is the series tracker! I have a spread of all of the release dates for books I am looking forward to during the year.
In my bujo I have two spreads you minght consider. One is monthly tracker of the books I want to read each month (for me it's one classic, one book from a longer series, one non-fiction and one "reading the word" book). It helps me see how I'm doing with my goals in one place. Second one is any reading challenges you might want. For me its "reading the word", where I try to pick up stuff written by the authors of different nationalities, but It could be "reading women" prompts, or any prompts list you'll find on booktube or anywhere else.
This seems so fun to do. I’d love to make one of these someday. I like the idea of a series tracker. I also think a good spread idea would be one where you could retire down books that have been suggested to you. That way you don’t forget them and you can reference it for ideas when deciding what to read.
I have this same exact square notebook from A&O was a gift I got last year. I still haven’t used it, but looking forward to using it this year. I love your reading journal setups. So creative. Will you be doing a flip through of your current reading journal ?
I wanna start a reading journal for 2022 too. I think it would be pretty nice to have a spread on publication year, author's nationality, and genres. It would be cool to see the range. Maybe some spreads for my reading challenges too.
I like the square notebook, unfortunately I haven't had a chance to buy some yet. The spreads look really amazing and calm (as the reading itself is 🙂). Thank you Elizabeth for showing us your reading journal setup.
I really love your reading journal set-up and update videos, Elizabeth. If you participate in any reading challenges you could make a spread for them to document your progress.
This is the second video I watch from you, and I hit the subscribe button 🔘 I love your approach towards reading, decorating and overall your aesthetic. I am a big dark academia girl and I find peace in these videos, I love it Take care 🤎 -Your new subscriber
After getting the December subbox notebook last week, which is much closer to a square (8 x 10) than I'm used to, I finally understand the hype! It's been fun to use. I have an A5 I want to use as a reading journal though. I would definitely like to see more spreads as you make them! I think a series tracker, or recommendations list (if you get a lot) would be very very helpful, I always forget about series' names and to keep a lookout when the entire book list isn't out yet, and I keep having to look up the reading order. Having an overall stats page would help since you usually have your monthly stats - it's up to you if you want that at the end of the journal, though.
This encourages me to set up a reading journal in 2022. I have started a rather large series of Fantasy books which is something different for me. It will be a challenge and I would like to make notes and goal would be to do this series in 2022. Thanks for sharing as I am an avid reader thanks to my mother for reading to us a we grew up and gave me the gift of reading, it never grows old or boring. Suggestion for a spread is Authors, do you have any favorites? A spread on those who made made impact on your life? I feel books can impact my life as I love true stories the best but want to read all kinds of books vs one kind.
When I set up my reading journal for the year, I make a spread for all of the books that I own and haven’t read with a bubble next to them to check off when I read them, a series tracker, a bar graph of genres to color in when I finish a book, a bingo board type thing of book challenges, and a giant wish list of all of the books that I want to buy
When you described how you don’t know what you’re doing when having all these materials beside you and just play around with everything, I felt that so much lol! That’s exactly why I just journal/scrapbook because making an actual yearly bujo, I’d have to plan and sketch the pages and I feel stressed bc I never know what to do 😅 But I was also wondering if you have a Pinterest with your dark and light academia aesthetic that I can follow and save as well.. or if you just search up dark academia and save whatever pops up, because that’s what I do 😩
How about an upcoming releases spread? I'm setting up my first ever reading journal for 2022 and that's one of the spreads I'm most excited to fill out because something I found this year is that I love knowing when new, interesting books are coming out- especially by authors I like!
I'm so excited for you to read The Cemetery of Forgotten Books! I discovered this series in 2021. Read this first book twice and declared it my new favorite book!
I think another good tip about art journaling (which is kinda what you are doing) is to first and foremost, make it for yourself. Use what you like, experiment with new techniques, imitate things you see that make your eyes happy. Give yourself permission to make mistakes. If you have a page that turned out particularly well, go ahead and share it, but otherwise do it for yourself. Giving your self permission to fail and practicing are the two keys to artistic expression. And it doesn't have to be good to have value! Enjoy the time doing it and feed your soul!
I started a reading journal this year! I decided to start in December 2021 because I couldn't wait for the new year. I read the House in the Cerulean Sea on your recommendation and fell in love with it, stayed up way too late reading it. Plus I am now reading Winter's Orbit and Stamped too.
If you were looking for other spread ideas you could try a reading bingo, where you have a few different “challenges”, like read a romance, read an author from the UK, read a book from 1980. It can be a bingo of your choice and helps to broaden your book choices too!
I'm so excited for tomorrow's video! I'm looking forward since you told about the book bracket page. I think it's such a cool idea. I was hoping you'd post a video about it 😊
I am a Year 6 teacher and I know that kids these days don’t do as much arts and crafts at home. I am still teaching 11-12 year olds how to cut properly with scissors - they tend to just hack in any which way. Same with glueing things! Makes me sad. But I make up for it by doing lots of arts and crafts in my class. Also, Shadow of the Wind is an AMAZING book. X
You could do a 'Book Quote of the month' spread. Something I do in my writer journal is breakdown some really good and really bad moments from the books I read each month. I call that left-a-taste spread. It is like a masterclass from each author you read in a few pages - things to do and things to hopefully avoid. I also do a 'great opening line' spread. I add why I think that's the case for future references.
I love my format tracker (physical, kindle, online and audio)! I did it through tallies this year but it could also be really cool to draw an empty bookshelf and colour-code the formats! I also love my rating pages, I stick each cover in a little "frame" with the star rating underneath, it's a really visual way of seeing the books I've read throughout the year! I do have a "series in progress" page as well, where I write all the series I'm in the middle of, plus some space for new ones! I write down each title and cross them out as I read them, which is really satisfying! I hope this might give you a few suggestions!
@@PlantBasedBride I did. Do you take part in any challenges? This will be my first year doing one. I’ll do A to Z where I pick a book for every letter of the alphabet. I like you 22 books in 2022 book spread. That a good twist.
So beautiful! I’m completely in love with your reading journal’s videos! Huge inspiration for my own! I would love to watch a flip through of you reading journal of 2021 as well! Merry Christmas 🤍
So elegant! I do love the idea of a reading journal. Maybe it will inspire me to get reading more. 📚 I'm looking forward to the Book Madness brackets tomorrow.
I would honestly love to see a flip through of your 2021 reading journal!
ditto!
Me too!
Same
Count me in!
PLEASE!
I think I’m going to integrate this reading tracker into my main bullet journal. My reading habit really took a backseat last year. I want for that not to happen in 2022

I've really been looking forward to this! this will be my first year keeping a reading journal and I was inspired by yours last year.
my reading goal is only 4 books this year, I really admire the fact that your goal is 115 books; I also loved all the spreads, you are so talented

-A to Z reading challenge
-Owned Backlist (in an effort to hold myself accountable to read the books I bought!)
-Wishlist (putting this opposite of my backlist will hopefully discourage me from buying too many new books! maybe implement a reward system for finishing x amount of backlist books = 1 new wishlist book?)
-Haul vs Unhaul list (tentative idea - but could help control the physical book intake)
-Daily Reading Tracker (not sure how much I will actually like this yet....but going to try it)
-Year at a glance stats (number of books read each month, fav book of month, etc)
Loving the systems you're setting in place to not buy too many books. Whenever I go to a bookstore, I have to almost forcefully haul myself out of there before I buy too many books. Thanks for the inspo :)

from my perspective, creating a scrapbook is style is a matter of experimenting with different sizes and textures. You go from the bigger piece to the smallest one, trying to break the barriers of whatever shape you're doing. That's my advice from watching all Saricas video hahaha
scrapbookish style
Your reading journal videos were some of my favorite videos of yours this year!! I really hope you can post more this upcoming year if that’s something you want. I know you’re showing the 2021 reading bracket but are you going to do a flip through of your reading journal? I know some of the spreads are probably personal but I would absolutely love to see it 💕
I will in the new year! I need time to finish all of my December spreads ❤️
I’ve been brainstorming more ideas!
It says a lot about where my mental space is at when I look at those periods.
omg i'm so excited to see your 2021 book bracket!! i love your book videos
Omg I was soooo excited for this ! Your videos always make my day better Elizabeth ❤️
The spread I have found most useful in my reading journal is the series tracker! I have a spread of all of the release dates for books I am looking forward to during the year.
This is just lovely! I saw that you have Braiding Sweetgrass on your 22 for 2022 list. It's such a great book, and I hope that you enjoy it too.
One of my best friends has been urging me to read it for a year now and I bought a copy so it’s time!
@@PlantBasedBride I'm so excited for you. It was life-changing for me, and I have re-read it several times now.
i LOVE the blue of this journal. absolutely gorgeous
Wow, your setup is really pretty! Excited to use this as an inspiration for mine, too! :)
Thank you! ❤
I will in the new year!
Will be looking forward to it.
I love this! Wish I saw this before I planned my 2022 reading bujo
I wanna start a reading journal for 2022 too. I think it would be pretty nice to have a spread on publication year, author's nationality, and genres. It would be cool to see the range. Maybe some spreads for my reading challenges too.
I was just watching the flip through 10 minutes ago. Happy coincidences!!!!
Nice! ❤
I like the square notebook, unfortunately I haven't had a chance to buy some yet. The spreads look really amazing and calm (as the reading itself is 🙂). Thank you Elizabeth for showing us your reading journal setup.
I loved having a list tbr in my reading journal in 2021, it’s the spread I used the most
I really love your reading journal set-up and update videos, Elizabeth. If you participate in any reading challenges you could make a spread for them to document your progress.
I created reading journal after watching your video. I really enjoyed writing in it this year and already created one for next year too.
This is the second video I watch from you, and I hit the subscribe button 🔘
I love your approach towards reading, decorating and overall your aesthetic.
I am a big dark academia girl and I find peace in these videos, I love it
Take care 🤎

SIMPLE AND BEAUTIFUL! 😍
Yessss! That’s my goal this week-get my reading journal set up!
I love the warm tones you chose for this setup! Thank you for posting your reading journal videos, it has inspired me to start one for 2022 ☺️
When you described how you don’t know what you’re doing when having all these materials beside you and just play around with everything, I felt that so much lol! That’s exactly why I just journal/scrapbook because making an actual yearly bujo, I’d have to plan and sketch the pages and I feel stressed bc I never know what to do 😅
But I was also wondering if you have a Pinterest with your dark and light academia aesthetic that I can follow and save as well.. or if you just search up dark academia and save whatever pops up, because that’s what I do 😩
How about an upcoming releases spread? I'm setting up my first ever reading journal for 2022 and that's one of the spreads I'm most excited to fill out because something I found this year is that I love knowing when new, interesting books are coming out- especially by authors I like!
I took a break and I'm back ! And yours was the first video i watched !
Congrats on hitting your goal! That is a big deal particularly in 2021.
I started a reading journal this year! I decided to start in December 2021 because I couldn't wait for the new year. I read the House in the Cerulean Sea on your recommendation and fell in love with it, stayed up way too late reading it. Plus I am now reading Winter's Orbit and Stamped too.
Ohh three amazing books!
If you were looking for other spread ideas you could try a reading bingo, where you have a few different “challenges”, like read a romance, read an author from the UK, read a book from 1980. It can be a bingo of your choice and helps to broaden your book choices too!
I would love to see a Part II if you add more spreads. What size did you print the book covers for your Top 22?
I'm so excited for tomorrow's video! I'm looking forward since you told about the book bracket page. I think it's such a cool idea. I was hoping you'd post a video about it 😊
I am a Year 6 teacher and I know that kids these days don’t do as much arts and crafts at home. I am still teaching 11-12 year olds how to cut properly with scissors - they tend to just hack in any which way. Same with glueing things! Makes me sad. But I make up for it by doing lots of arts and crafts in my class.
Also, Shadow of the Wind is an AMAZING book.

This makes me want to use both a reading journal and a square journal 🥰🥰🥰
I love plantmas! It’s so great to be in your company everyday! Thank you for great videos and love this style 😄
Aw thank you and you are so welcome! ❤
Love this! You have definitely given me some ideas. Also Persepolis is a great book!
Such a pretty journal! 😍
How about a running total pages read? There could be fun ways to do it like filling jars or something ☺️ beautiful work as always!
Braiding sdweetgrass is an amazing book, completely changed my life and the way I interact with nature
I'm really looking forward to reading it!
Yay!! So excited for this!
I hope you enjoy it!
@@PlantBasedBride I did. Do you take part in any challenges? This will be my first year doing one. I’ll do A to Z where I pick a book for every letter of the alphabet. I like you 22 books in 2022 book spread. That a good twist.
i love the quote you grrm quote you chose--it really pulls me in! #plantmas
I always make a series to start and to finish page, maybe it’s something for you as well!
So beautiful! I’m completely in love with your reading journal’s videos! Huge inspiration for my own! I would love to watch a flip through of you reading journal of 2021 as well!
Merry Christmas 🤍
I'd like to do a book like that, even though it might win over my anxiety. I think I'll give myself a chance 😊 thanks for the video!!
This is absolutely stunning❤️
Aw thanks! 🥰
So elegant! I do love the idea of a reading journal. Maybe it will inspire me to get reading more. 📚 I'm looking forward to the Book Madness brackets tomorrow.
I love the vibe of your journal!
