Powder are used on the tables, either talc or borax. Other names for this are; Pinoy Pool, Poolan, and Poorl (poor man's pool).
This is one of the reasons why the Philippines has a lot of good players, world champions, and the GOAT. This is cheap, can be DIY, and can be purchased at Shopee, Lazada, etc. Kids beginning at the age of 4 can practice and learn pool's basics, safety, pocketing, and defense even at home. Little kids don't need to hang out at Pool halls to play pool.
My theory is that a bored grade schooler thought of this game. He was always dreaming of becoming a billiard legend and used his pencil and coins as an imaginary pool game.

Similar game what we used to play kids here in Finland. I have two tables myself. Homemade and original. Game is called korona(Finland) or novuss(Latvia). Korona is thought to have been born out of the game carrom. Great game.
This is a popular gambling game in the philippines and I was one of those who experience playing it. Very addicted because it was fun and easy to play. We called it "pool". I was suprise that lots of the foreigners here at the comment section don't know this simple game LOL unlike expensive billiard table pool set, our pool version was the cheapest.
That would be the one that comes with air hockey, pool and pin pong, all in a precarious but kinda playable state, it was a classic "toy" even before i was born. This one from these guys is lit and well designed.

if you shoot the blue, automatic your opponent will get the red color. just you need to shoot all the blue color and you win. but if you are the breaker and you shoot the same color you need to choose what color do you want. you will pick defends on the next preparation of you next shot..first player to shoot all their ball will be the winner
