Ok, I needed this more than I can express. I just sat down for a good cry after calling husband on his way home because I felt like I was going to lose my mind. This makes so much sense. Subscribed!

I'm so glad that this helped you. We often get so used to carrying a weight that we don't realize it's there even though it's still wearing us down! I hope you were able to get some help that you needed to get some of the load off your shoulders. 💜

Thank you so much for this video! Ive been panicking about making sure I don't have too much of the mental load lately and the idea of writing down a list of all the things you have to think about due to the mental load and sharing that with your partner/roommate is so simple but genius

I'm glad you found it helpful! And yes sometimes it's the simplest things that work - even if they don't seem like they would. I hope you were able to lift some of your load.

This video really resonates! Wishing there were more videos out there like this that explain it to the person without as much mental load (traditionally a man). I would love to be able to share the video with my partner, but i dont know if he'd get it as much from this perspective. Such good tips, much appreciated! ♥

I'm so glad you found it helpful!. I would LOVE to see more videos helping those without the mental load understand what it's like. If you ever see a good video about it, leave a link here. I'd love to team up with someone to help couples work out their distribution in a more equivocal way.

I'm going to stop stressing and micromanaging my kid's clothes. Whatever they want to wear is fine. If there are consequences like dress code violations, they will feel the pain. I am tired of fighting with my teens about clothing. I'm tired of worrying about being judged by others.

That sounds like a good plan. They sound old enough to deal with the consequences of their actions for their clothes. Every little bit you can let go of helps!

I literally got called by my kid's teacher because she had an injury and she asked me whether it was a nanny pick up day or a extracurricular day. My response was: what day is it? Lol, I probably sounded irresponsible but I know my brain just wasn't able to task switch to child thinking, from my very task switch heavy job. Mental load no kidding!

Yeah that's a big one to expect someone to be able to worry over their child and think about their schedule! I barely know what day it is without that stress. But we are still the ones expected to know all that stuff. A difficult weight to carry.

I am so glad I found this video it's such a breath of fresh air to put words to what I have been feeling just getting into a relationship and my partner not being able to find work and now I'm taking on his load as well as mine and I'm drowning mentally and emotionally....😜

So I had a complete meltdown during a family meeting this weekend. I pointed out what I do and how my 3 teenage children can help lessen my burden. Let's see if it helps them understand that they need to help out more around the house.

Well I’m glad that you were able to tell them what you needed. It’s so easy to keep doing everything for your kids and for them to not even realize how much you do. I hope that they help you and that you get some of that mental bandwidth back. 💜

i suspect that there is a relationship between a moms guilt and the excessive requirements that she puts on her plate for what she believes is for the greater good of her children (sans hubby). play dates, parties, vacations, fast fashion, unsustainable home decor, etc are part of this self imposed "mental load". couple this with the social media comparison effect, idealized lifestyle syndrome and the mom's self worth exponentially erodes. the partner is the scape goat of all of this angst and so begins the destruction of the family unit. the children are psychologically afflicted and then low self esteem, defeatism, and other pathologies manifest themselves in early adulthood therby reducing the likelihood that they will be able to sustain a meaningful relationship with a partner.
