  • Was the Second Amendment a Mistake? Sanford Levinson and John Lott square off on this controversial issue.
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution affirms the rights of U.S. citizens to keep and bear arms. This amendment is at the center of one of the most hotly contested issues in American politics and culture. The recent and rapid increase in mass shootings has led some people question the idea of readily and legally available firearms. Others have looked at the rise in violent crime and gang violence as proof that an armed populace is more necessary than ever.
Did the Founders make a mistake in enshrining gun rights in the Constitution? Or, are current government efforts to regulate gun ownership preventing citizens from being able to defend themselves?
Join ISI and the Center for the Study of Liberal Democracy as we explore this nuanced and oft-disputed question.

Wow, this was brutal. First speaker on pro 2A was nothing but continuous facts and citations. Second anti 2A speaker was a 10-minute rambling on of nothing that barley even referenced the actual topic... to say he was unprepared and overwhelmed is an understatement with zero substance. Quintessential demonstration of "facts over feelings". Even in the questions and answers portion was a beating.

Criminals don't follow gun laws. The only thing you accomplish with gun laws is restricting the ability of law abiding citizens to defend themselves they're families and other innocent people. Debate over!

Second I watched debate mentioning Obama care like its cheap. In NYC at least the cheapest option cost about 270 dollars monthly that may not be Obamacare. Which you only use to go to different types of doctors once a year if you aren't injured. A gun is a one time payment. You can get a glock for about 500 - 600. Then you have to take a course which is about 500, the application is about 340, back ground check is about 80. The gov't is requiring at least 2.5 times the firearm up front. But you can protect your self 24/7 after that. Even training is just 30 - 40 to train for an hour.

I always love the training requirement, because they prefer to require criminals to be well trained. Stupid argument.
