    Is there much difference with power increase of the ZD30DI vs CRD?

    • @Reuben_rmr
      @Reuben_rmr 3 месяца назад +4

      There is indeed. The crd being common rail is far more tuneable, timing can be adjusted better, pressures, injector duration as well. We can supply a lot more fuel and so efficiently to make power. 300hp at the wheels is achievable on an unmodified motor. $$$ of course to do it and do it reliably, for reference enough fuel to warrant 40psi boost.
      On the di we are limited by the vp44 fuel pump and fuel system. It can’t deliver close to what the crd can, max power is about 220hp at the wheels, maybe a touch more, if this patrol in the video was manual it would have been 220hp.
      Generally to make this with the same afrs as the crd you’d only need 25psi for f boost.
      If the zd30 crd had a denso fuel system like that of the 4jj1 or 1kd it would be capable of more power again.
      I will make a video one day about 4jj1 and zd30 to show people why the zd30 is better for pushing big power, especially in a patrol chassis where they need to haul a 3tonne mass.

    This + re04r03a vs m57 + zf8hp70 ?

    • @Reuben_rmr
      @Reuben_rmr Месяц назад

      You can’t compare a vp44 pump powered 3ltr from the 90’s (zd30 Di) to a common rail 3ltr from the 2000’s.
      Zd30 however has a stronger bottom end over the m57. The common rail zd30 2007 -2016 is on par with m57 when you keep the zd30 head down with headstuds.
      8hp70 is an 8 speed and very strong and more modern than the re4 so it wins. However the re4 is an insane strong box, only 4 speed though. Modified with valve body they are arguably stronger and more reliable than any 8hp and the re4 are commonly used in race application with high power diesels with owners that want to abuse them! Like I said in the video.
      The m57 and zf are both great setups and more modern. The trans tuning capabilities of the zf make for some very fast cars. My jeep gladiator has a 8hp75 in it from factory. I love it, stay tuned for more on that also. We just finished supercharging it

    What would it be like towing a 2t van with that tune tho ?

    • @Reuben_rmr
      @Reuben_rmr 3 месяца назад +1

      It would be no problem at all, afrs are 18:1 which is perfect for towing.
      I tow all the time with my 2008 common rail zd30, which makes 300hp and runs at 16:1.
      The richer the afr the hotter they run for those that don’t understand diesel tuning.
      The peak of summer this year (38deg day) I towed a 4 tonne car trailer with a jeep grand Cherokee for 3hrs cruising at 100kmh which is the max speed limit in Western Australia.
      So that’s the ver 6 tonne combined.
      Both the Di and crd have the same pistons.
      To answer your question, they tow amazing and reliably and this particular tune and setup would be ultimate.
      Just don’t run with boost leaks. Boost leaks lead to afrs dropping and pistons cracking.

      Update, we towed a Navara on a car trailer in a 2hr round trip through the city and on the highway with this car. So in excess of 2 tonne. It loved it and EGTs were well and truely in the safe zone with plenty of power on tap to haul ass.

    Weird thing I find with the DIs is the valve layout - Both cams have intake and exhaust lobes, because both intake valves are at the front of the chamber, exhaust valves are at the back (instead of each side like every other engine I've seen). • @Reuben_rmr
      @Reuben_rmr 3 месяца назад +2

      Give me some examples.
      You are probably going off manufacturer specs on power which is measured from the flywheel on an engine Dyno.
      This power figure is at the wheels once the torque converter, gearbox, driveshaft, diff, axles and wheels tax the power 😂
      The Zd30di is far from a modern motor.
      Factory specs at the flywheel are 105bhp.
      Factory specs for the current Isuzu Dmax with a far superior fuel system and turbo setup is 187bhp.
      If we do calculations from the stock spec and my Dyno runs, this patrol is making 270bhp now.
      200hp is very impressive, 520nm of torque is what gets me excited.
      Better than tuned modern car power now and a patrol chassis and suspension that can’t be rivalled by a modern 4wd for ruggedness/durability, comfort on harsh terrain and handling.

    • @zonta71
      @zonta71 3 месяца назад

      @@Reuben_rmr duff my hat to you mate. blighty rant here. 270 is impressive. i totally agree the patrol has a stronger chasis suspension and drivetrain. are these figures on stock internals? and why do i see lots of these patrols advertises with blown engines. once again thank you Sir for the reply and video as always. 1luv

    • @Reuben_rmr
      @Reuben_rmr 3 месяца назад +2

      @@zonta71 Yes these are stock internals. We only do rods and modify the Nissan pistons if we are going for 450+HP at the flywheel, 400HP at the wheels and above.
      The reason you see them advertised with blown motors is people drive them with boost leaks and the people they get to service their car don't understand diesels properly and rectify said boost leaks.
      90% of failures are from boost leaks, 5% from turbos not operating properly and another 5% from people cooking motors due to extremely poor cooling system maintenance.
      I find boost leaks on every new clients car.
