    Interesting feedback. I have coily Afro-textured hair that is fine in diameter and medium in density, but which is also soft, and is prone to frizz. There is nothing coarse about it. Just because hair has a texture doesn't mean it is coarse. I need to carefully monitor moisture levels for both my hair and my scalp. I couldn't maintain my hair with just three products. In fact, I currently use six products on a regular basis, and two once a month. I do use professional products, and have for over 30 years. They do in fact make a huge difference in the feel and appearance of both hair and scalp. It would be instructive to hear the Blowout Professor speak on his knowledge and experience with Afro-textured hair, and how his tips, strategies and recommendations apply.

    • @cfoster6804
      @cfoster6804 Год назад +5

      Most afro textured hair is actually fine to medium contrary to what we've been told. It's not coarse. It doesn't behave in the same manner as say Caucasian fine hair as far as greasy and flat because it doesn't grow down but up and out. So oils can't easily coat the strands. Afro hair should be treated as fine hair with some tweaks. I would also argue that many with afro textured hair should actually be washing their scalps more often since the sebum can't travel down and all of it sits on the scalp. It is indeed a truly unique hair texture.❤

    When you find that hair soul mate, you KNOW. When I took the quiz, I thought my hair was medium. Bought the Redken, did the routine, and scalp was itchy and hair frizzy with flyaways. Too dry. Ok. So then I tried the coarse hair routine. From the very first day, it made a HUGE difference! My hair stayed clean for 5 days, did do dry shampoo 6th day, washed again on 8th day. No problems! And for the first time ever, my overnight curls held all week, just becoming softer waves by the last day, but still was there. Not flat, lifeless, and boring at all. After the second wash day with the coarse hair routine, my husband said, "Did you get a haircut? Your ends look really even." Nope. Haven't had a cut. Just found the right routine for my hair.
    So if you try one routine and it doesn't seem right for you, try another. That might make all the difference in the world.

      Hey! Well first off - chlorine really damages hair! Soaking your hair in normal water before taking a splash in the pool can help! (Some girls even go so far as to put conditioner on before- but I’m not going to do that).
      When I swam daily I also would wear a swim cap- a good one won’t let the water hit the majority of your hair- just the hair around the edges. That really helped me, I have a lot of hair so I had to get a special long hair swim cap for it to work/not fall off.
      Simply rinse your hair with water and reapply leave in conditioner/hair oil once you’re done rinsing off. Your skin will need to be cleaned but your scalp won’t- just a rinse- especially with course hair. When I had 3a-b hair I’d conditioner to help detangle my hair- and it also kept it moisturized, but I still only shampood once - sometimes twice - a week. This was when I was on my high school swim team- so I was swimming almost daily too.
      As for running (or any dry sport), i used to just…I know…use a shower cap and not get my hair wet when I rinsed off. But now, with long 2c I now use protective hair styles when I get sweaty instead of just a ponytail. Braids, tight buns, tight hair styles. It helps prevent the sweat from getting into all of the hair. I even just rinse off with the protective hairstyle since some barely let water in! (And it rinses the outer strands that did get sweat on them). Buns are the best though since it keeps the hair off sweat necks and backs. But for helmet sorts (like biking) I use braids!

    • @tiffariff
      @tiffariff Год назад +7

      @@jackieandraos624 avoiding shampoo is the key. As I mentioned in my long reply when I had very curly hair- I’d just rinse off with water and apply conditioner. Curly hair doesn’t need as much washing and needs more conditioner/moisture. For straight hair-and even with a protective hair style you want to rinse off- just get the hair wet. Maybe use a light leave in conditioner while your hair is damp after.

However, could you PLEASE do a short and medium video? My sis is short and I'm the medium. Her hair is thin and I'd say kind of fine right now. Mine WAS thick, it's now medium but growing back in, so I've still got a lot of short hairs mixed in there. I lost about half of mine after that open heart surgery and it's coming back now. Sis always had thick hair, but after a major (many hours of anesthetic) back surgery... she lost a lot. We have found that the stress and long times with anesthesia is probably the problem. Doctors will deny it, but if you Google "hair loss after open heart surgery", it happens a lot! It really messes up ANY and EVERY thing we've tried, until you and your videos! I'm not sure which type I have. I no I need moisture and I color my greys every so often but it's my ends that are so fine and need to look thicker and healthier. It's different everywhere else it's thicker but ends just so fine and stringy. When I get it done from my stylist I can go 4 or 5 days without washing it but usually I do every 3 or 4. I have a Shark Flexstyle and use Pureology shampoo and conditioner it's a blue bottle. But I need other good products to tame frizz and look smoother and straight. If I style it good enough with Flex I can go without flat ironing but I usually flat iron a little after. Someone on Amazon talked about this page when I was reading reviews on Olaplex. I have some Chi straight guard now it's ok. I will watch the healthier hair video next.

My hair has never been oily even after 3 or 4 days, but it does get flat at the roots and smells musty. The thought of not washing my hair for a week is gross! Thank god for cleansing conditioner.

      Consider getting a water filter/washing with distilled water. Comb your hair (not brush) when it’s damp/wet and with a WIDE tooth comb, use leave-in conditioner - Maui moisture should be suitable for your hair texture and a light oil, maybe vitamin E (only on the ends and maybe mid-lengths).
      Sleep on silk/satin pillowcases, this should help if you’re not following these tips already.

    I have fine thin AND coarse ribbon shaped hair which gets never greasy, but I need to wash it every other day because it is flat and thin looking even at day 1 after wash.
    Its bleached platinum and hips lenght.
    I do not have splitt ends or breakage but brushing is impossible, only when my hair is dripping wet.
    I blow dry it always to shape curls, otherwise it would be only frizzy and thin looking

    I wasn't sure if I had medium or coarse hair (I have lots of volume, but also had oily hair), so I bought the products for fine/medium hair you recommended. They were a big improvement over the oxg products I was using, and I was able to a week without washing with some dry shampoo sprinkled in once during the week. But while oily hair was no longer a problem, dryness and frizz still remained. I used a hair mask which made a huge improvement instantly, so I decided to try the products for coarse hair. Another big improvement. The moccorian oil fixes my dry ends but doesn't weigh my hair down despite using a generous amount each morning. The frizz dimiss also reduced frizz significantly (and using an invis-bobble at night probably doesn't hurt)

      I also have medium hair with tons of volume but an oily hair problem. I just bought the recommended products for coarse hair (the Moroccanoil shampoo and conditioner). • @stevenc123
      @stevenc123 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@MultiKingfull Dry hair hasn't been a problem since. I also use the Moroccan oil hair conditioner when I don't have time for a hair mask and it works well too.
      I'm still not 100% happy with my ends, but that's more to do with my natural hair pattern. It goes into an S shaped wave so the ends curl up near the bottom. I've gotten better at blow drying which has reduced it significantly, and it does get easier to mange as my hair gets longer. I'm sure straighteners would fix it completely, but I'm going to let it grow out a little bit more before trying that (10 inches atm).

    This doesn't really work for me because I have tightly coiled afro hair. My strands are medium, but I have high density. I don't have to worry about my scalp getting to oily when my hair is in its natural state. Products don't tend to weigh down my hair. I can use a ton of product and my coils will still bounce all over the place.

    I have not ever heard you address AGED HAIR! Yes. Women who are over 50 or 60 yrs. of age. We have unique problems such as thinning hair due to age and non-existent hormones. Do you even work with older women? I am 76 yrs. old (told I look much younger, as I am vegan and walk 10,000 steps every morning), have been blond all my life - natural for the better part of it, but enhanced with color products. (I'm obstinately blond😅) My hair has always been one of my best features. Now, it is thin, dry and will not hold a style. I have been told by several stylists that my hair is coarse. It never gets oily.
    I also moved to the beach 5 yrs. ago where the heat and humidity are ALWAYS high. I need a hair plan for me, with products that are vegan and not tested on animals. (Redken does not qualify!) ARE YOU UP FOR THE CHALLENGE!!?? 😊

    I have fine textured curly hair (like my German mom's hair - but curled). I can't use olive oil or almond oil, even in small amounts, because they weigh my curls down, but coconut oil or grapeseed oil are fine. I'm sharing this for people who don't have any experience with curly hair so that they know not all curls are coarse. My hair definitely isn't. If I feel coarseness I'll check for split ends- and if it's coarse then ill find a lot and know it's time for a trim. Split ends can't be repaired and they make your curls look terrible and seem like they cause them to get tabgled more easily.

    It doesn’t get greasy because it’s Afro hair, it doesn’t stay flat to my head because it’s Afro hair, it has volume not because it’s course but because it’s Afro hair.
    It’s as if Afro hair doesn’t exist based on this video or any other video I’ve seen on this channel.
    Afro hair can be fine, yet not need to be washed often because it doesn’t ever get greasy.

I can’t make curls stay and get it to have volume, even when it’s long, it doesn’t look that long, my bottom strands somehow gather together leaving space in between them. Also, I do think I have an allergy when it comes certain ingredients from shampoos, most of them give me an itchy scalp and sometimes even sores. I always had fine hair, but it was very dense and now that I’m in my 60s it has thinned and it is very frizzy when the weather is damp. A coarse hair strand is one that is thick and wide and big, regardless of the amount of texture and porosity that the hair has, and can naturally take a large amount of heat before burning, unlike my hair which is so fine that it burns even from the sun!

    I feel like maybe the word “coarse” is a turn off, but coarse doesn’t mean “bad” or “ugly” i think course just refers to the shape of it.
    Fine - it lays flat.
    Medium - there’s some wave and most of it doesn’t lay flat.
    Coarse - it can be wavy or curly - and it doesn’t lay flat against the head.
    Some of my hair is fine - the stuff on the top.
    Some of it is medium. Some of it is super curly which I take to mean - coarse.
    I simply put more of the recommended products on the coarse parts and less on the fine bits parts.
    It seems to be working.

    My coarse hair generally matches most of your description but because it's stick straight it has NO volume at all and sticks to my head and looks flat and lifeless and like I have no hair at all. It feels rough and coarse and wiry but it looks smooth and silky (until you touch it!) and it's tough and resistant and won't hold a curl at all, in fact it's impossible to change its natural shape in any way, for example I can't change the part either, or put it up in a ponytail because it's so heavy it just falls back down. The rest is true, it's very heavy so it's not easy to weigh down, and as far as the hair is concerned I can go a week without washing it and it doesn't get greasy. But I need to wash it every other day because if I don't I get huge patches of dandruff.
