I really appreciate how openly Light talks about his emotional processes regarding smash. Being aware of your own emotions and letting it flow to redirect that energy is one of the best qualities a competitor can have. (Pd: the audio's perfect for this episode, you can tell they are doing some hard work for this podcast)
36:39 want to point out that Leo ALSO lost to MuteAce in Winners in that tournament-he just did it later in the bracket than Leo did. Not to discredit Leo’s win at all, but he was definitely fortunate that he didn’t run into Mute as early as Acola did-there’s a parallel universe where they swap seeds and Leo gets 7th losing to Mute/Sparg0.
I always find it funny that EE and Cosmos's rooms look like they're both like at 12:00 on a bright day and lights room looks like what a room would look like at 12 at night.
45:36 I wouldn't argue "Sonix DESERVED to be in the tournament" either. Rather, I think he should have been given the same opportunity as Skyjay and Lui$ to compete in, idk, a round robin or something for the spot (which I heard was what initially was going to happen but some other player I can't remember the name of had to back out. Could be wrong tho) Regardless, the community has kinda always treated Sonix weird for simply playing Sonic. People did the same thing to Maister and Dabuz in Smash 4 until both of them were able to express themselves at Summit (Coney even brings this up in his latest recap stream). Hbox also somehow just forgot to endorse Sonix for the voting period. Now I'm not saying Sonix would've been a shoo-in had Hbox remembered to endorse him, but it's the fact that, if this was somehow SKYJAY getting endorsed instead of Sonix, I guarantee you Hbox wouldn't have "forgotten". Sonix himself said that he has never even once been given the opportunity to have a conversation with the ppl who run Summit because it's always masked as "miscommunication" or whatever, and the ONE TIME he gets information wrong, is the one time that someone from Summit ACTUALLY responds (lol. lmao, even). Sonix lives 30 minutes away from the Summit venue, it's not like he had to buy a whole ass flight like Skyjay did. Even if Summit had actually told him a verbal "no", it's better than leaving a top 10 player on read just because he's less publicly favored for playing a character in a video game. I GUARANTEE you that if it was Sparg0, or Leo, or Riddles, or anyone else in the upper echelon of players, they wouldn't be treated like this. Period. All of this on top of Sonix STILL not being sponsored despite regularly being in top 8s at majors and super majors. It feels like the community just consistently tries to forget that Sonix exists (to an insane degree I haven't seen in the near decade I've been part of the community). Sonix is a saint for putting up with it tbh, and I don't blame him at all for being incredibly frustrated for nobody communicating with him. All these little things slowly build up and a single person can only take it for so long. All the drama this weekend just left a huge bitter taste in my mouth about the community at large.
He could have been there easily by just winning Collision. Now I'm not saying it's guaranteed but he had the dream bracket of his life. No Leo, No Light, Sparg0 being in losers bracket and the people that are in winners are favorable match ups for him.The fact that he lost to Riddles shows that he shouldn't be there (Although Riddles outplayed the hell out of Sonix so gotta give him a lot of credit).
Really loving the new podcast EE, you three have awesome chemistry and talk about genuine shit happening within and surrounding the community. Much love to all you guys, keep up the sick content
I apologize to Light for not listening to this podcast earlier. He is so level headed, positive and based! I had the impression that he is more aggressive and emotional. Definitely the best smash-related podcast rn! Hope this podcast continues!
40:52 What does Light mean by "(proto) can lose to a bunch of people that I can beat easy"? Protobanham's recent losses in the past year (and Light's set count vs them) are: Shuton (1-4), Tea (3-3), acola (1-3), Yoshidora(0-0), Yaura(0-0), Atelier(0-0), Takera(0-0), and [Light has] positives sets vs Kameme (2-0) and Kome (1-0) If we're talking about best player in the world, global wins matter a lot, regional wins are important sure but why does that not make him in contention for top 5?
Using that logic at 41:00 you need to go to Japan and beat everybody there no? I mean.. if he's losing to people that might be better than the top players in the US but just don't travel then he might technically still be better. I'm not saying this is the case but the competition in Japan is pretty rough I think, the only constant variable there is Acola.
I disagree. There is no way the competition in japan is that much higher then USA, people just be standing Japan mad heavy these days. The top Japanese players comeover and do well but they are top players so that is to be expected. They don't always win but they keep up with everybody else. You can't tell me he is going back home and facing people who are significantly better than Leo, tweek and Light. Witht hat being said if his results are not consistent he is not in consideration for the best period.
I'm not gonna lie: It was disrespectful that Sonix was the only runner-up (that being his 4th place spot behind everyone else who was already going/Muteace Qualification during Genesis 9) not included in consideration for Light's spot. It's not necessarily entitlement to express frustration if one person in the same category as any other runner-up isn't considered for a replacement. It's a desire for having a fair shot. I'm not saying the behavioral response is completely justified but there has to be a level of acknowledgement for the voting process within any sort of community. Gaming or otherwise.
@@EEvisu Wishing the best for everyone as Smash moves forward. Hope the community will continue growing from this and bounce back with a new Summit-like invitational. RIP BTS. 😞✊

It also doesn’t help that Steve is also as awful to watch as Sonic, except Sonic is actually beatable. There doesn’t seem to be a consistent strategy on how to beat the former.
