I disliked the eagle anyways. It was too overpowered. I shouldn't have to attack from whatever side the eagle is on. Makes the Meta way to predictable and bland. This makes it so anyone can attack from any side. As it should be

because the game is meant for mobile meaning, if its too big players have to swipe which also becomes a problem since you cant see the entire map while playing. Its never happening for sure.

What if the town hall released a robotic eagle after it died (like you said) which couldn't be attacked. Then it would shoot 4-8 shots to different targets with the most HP. These shots would do area damage of 2 tiles. This way, the eagle artillery will be like the last ditch effort (like the giga bomb). The giga bomb can stay as a trap, as it can be a deterrent for players to attack from the side in which it is placed. This roboti eagle would be a sight to behold. It would fly up into the air and release 4-8 consecutive shells. After that, it would self combust, dealing extra damage to troops around it (2 tile radius). It would be interesting lore for the builder as well. The builder would have had to construct a mechanical bird out of parts of the eagle artillery.
That moment when you are applying your strategy and you had to drop a few extra troop and suddenly.......... The dreadful activation sound of eagle. nothing in the map is safe anymore. All your focus needs to be on the eagle or this attack most likely fails. I will definitely miss that feeling. R.I.P Eagle Artillery
They probably will buff it, cuz its feel underwhelming at first... Especially when they see how high *3 percentage after update drop, if it is really that easy
The entire base most likely won't be easier to 3 star (due to the new defenses and defense levels), but the combined power of the townhall and the eagle is definitely worse than before. And what's even more important is that there is no Eagle and it's activation sound.
Yeah, hydra is easy. After my couple of attacks, TH17 is strong against heroes, but I had taken it down with Balloon clone, so I have no idea about meta currently...
i 100% agree with this. look i am not complaining about th17 I think it looks cool but they killed eagle. they should have kept its mechanism same as before with all the sounds and animation. eagle was the coolest defence in coc and they made it like a launcher
Keeping the main mechanism would have made it arguably easier to 3 star, as rather than having th on one side, and eagle on the other, now they would be together, and easy to snipe off.
The townhall in all the game play i saw is actually stronger than this video makes it seem, just watch Galadon gaming or Judo Sloth, Judo makes it look easy but it still takes some strategy to destroy and that's not with Max defenses and now you also have to consider the new Minion Prince is gonna be a very strong defense too on top of all the new levels
I dont mind the merging idea since a lot of defences end up just taking space for no reason. However, the main abilities have to be maintained. If you want to add a new defence mechanism, just create it and merge it with time, but removing the mechanism completely doesn't sound right to me
As a th14 in legends league, I’m happier to be matched with a th17 than with a th16. Number of times I’ve 3 starred a 17 is also higher than I have a 16. Largely because of the absence of EA and the gigabomb. The random gigabomb may take out a few of my troops but the one attached to the th always dealt more damage as the th attracted more troops.
the eagle always been a critical point at my early times at clash of clans... i either aim for town hall and get two start graunted. or go to eagle and try get 3 stars
The eagle was actually pretty irrelevant at higher town halls, so calling it the strongest defence is kind of strange. (Except if you use edrags or multiple hero charges)
Merging the collectors will negatively impact the game in multiple ways. Farming will become way too easy and greatly lower retention. Funneling becomes a lot easier with less trash buildings to worry about. Plus the eagle isn’t that good in the higher town halls. The current meta involves destroying it quickly and I’m glad they’re finally changing things up. Don’t forget they want to keep the game oriented to where it’s a village rather than this impenetrable fortress with barely any non-defensive buildings.
Absolutely 100% agree. This was a terrible bait and switch and I would go back to Townhall 16 in a heartbeat if I could.. totally regret losing my Eagle artillery. Absolutely disadvantage now, especially against people who know the power of the eagle artillery..
This is inevitable. I can understand your dilemma, however its important to note that supercell plans out the game two years in advance. Meaning they know what they want the game to be 2 years out at any given moment. With that being said it’s likely that they crafted some things for town hall 18 that made them realize the approaches they needed to take with town hall 17. In other words, town hall 17 needs to be a nice bridge for what is coming at town hall 18. While certain claims are backed with logical reasons and arguments for what players have access to, we have to remember that supercell isn’t thinking that way. They are thinking about the future of the game and how that impacts what you play with now. So while we might not like these changes, we will bear the fruits of their changes eventually. Itll take some getting used to.

It looks like they merged mortar instead of eagle artillery. They should have merged three mortars except the multi mortar or so. It would have freed more space that way. Disappointed with this update.
I feel like the eagle artillery feels like it got deleted by maybe in the future when they add more townhall levels the townhall itself would become more powerful than the eagle artillery so I guess we have to wait and see

At higher town halls there should be side grades and not upgrades. Add a completely new defense or maybe something that replaces another defense but has a similar overall strength to another. It could add more variety to the game while still keeping the base bloat lower.
I completely agree with everything you said. I myself, don't like the eagle merge and the thrower troop of this update. It has lost its "eagle" meaning. An eagle is a bird with immense vision capabilities...which means infinite range. This is such a dumb move. Also, the firespitters are so lame. Idk what happened. They could've easily given 2 mini eagles instead of firespitters with a smaller range as compensation for merging the main one. Idk.
The thrower seems weird... Like we have a 16-HS troop with few HP and very little damage. Only somewhat long range but idk what the value offering is. Compared to the Electro Titan, which doubles the housing space, quadruples the HP, sacrifices all range but has an aura that attacks everything (on top of its vanilla attack). I'm missing something here.
@@VideoGameStarChannelSupremethe flamespitter is pretty weird overall, it's whole gimmick is having long range in one direction with high burst dps. The weird part is that the shots do not track so they can miss. However the shots can pierce one troop so it's semi aoe. Basically it's meant to deal high damage at targets that are closer and the shots that miss/pierce can hit troops as collateral damage. I think like with the inferno artillery, it's meant to act as more of a support as if you don't keep these defense in mind, it can be devastating as the their dps can grow if ignored

When they say merge, I think eagle artillery just merging with its ability. What is this? Where is the longest attack artillery? So, the concept of merge is just an excuse to delete things in the game. Not to make it better but to delete it.

Eh, I think if they just buffed the range up to 15ish tiles and buffed the weapon damage by like 50% max it would be plenty. They entirely skipped it in this video but the fact that the weapon is permanently active is a genuinely massive buff, even a little additional range would help it abuse that fact better, and some more damage since it IS somewhat weak
Totally agree. As a defence the new TH is easier to deal with than at TH16, even without considering that the Eagle is also gone. The additional defences and new Hero Hall do offset this though (stats wise) for, both DPS and HP overall. Still, not having to make plans to take out Eagle and TH makes attacking more straightforward.
6:32 the animation they made perfectly shows how it couldve been done better, it shows it as a rapid fire throughout the entire base with a small cooldown. which wouldve made it more reasonable to get rid of the bomb after destroying it. It wouldve felt more rewarding to take down the most deadly defense in the base, but now it just feels like any other defense but with more health.
Exactly, and it is much easier to destroy now, because it is generally weaker than the giga inferno. The old town halls also struggled with freeze spells. But they still did some damage and the giga bomb was deadly. Now there's nothing scary about raiding the centre of the base. Some people might suggest, "just put the giga bomb near the town hall" Well. Why remove it from the town hall if you're going to place it next to it anyway? And it still doesn't have the same effect because of no poison
A real murge would sum up the hitpoints and the damage of both defenses together. If you do the math the new defenses are weaker than its individuals defenses in TH15
Town Hall 17 Fix Idea: - 25 Tile range - Has around 15K HP (since it's merged with a building that has 6200HP) - Does even more damage than TH16 when destroyed - Does a bit less damage than EA but every shot has the poison effect - Activates after dropping 200 units of troops

Being a Maxed Th16, i didn't feel the urge to upgrade for the first time in 12 years when a newer townhall came. As of now, I'm finding it easy to attack a th17 in comparison to th16.
Yeah so we're not afraid about the explosion when we destroyed th. That's why every pro player use fireball to destroy th first because it's too dangerous. The poison is too dangerous but now we're not afraid again lol.
Pros stopped caring about the poison death bomb years ago. They only use the fireball to make content because it's funny to watch the Warden nuke half a base.

@@rivanfrizzy8838 Everyone is NOT worried, especially now that the overgrowth makes the TH useless and often ends up being saves for last; making the poison bomb itself pointless. If you're still worried about the poison bomb at this time then you likely use an army that goes for the TH first without cutting the other defenses down beforehand. And btw, most players use the warden ability long before reaching the TH 🙄. They don't wait until their at the TH to use it, only TH14 players do that.
So that's why we have strategy we can use overgrowth spell or just use warden ability. That is essential of th 16 but now after we destroyed th just nothing and judosloth also said a little bit same. In my opinion Eagle artillery was the iconic of coc and the animation was so good but now just like that.

yeah true but the inferno artillery anyway has enough range with the quick fire rate and poison effect. the two fire spitter will make up the lost range quite well, cus its basically a longer range air sweeper that shoots fire.
@@GodOfChaos_HeXaI feel like the direction with the defense is "DO NOT IGNORE ME" or a more support angle as the flame spitter(although inaccurate) can deal collateral damage from a far and the inferno artillery although definitely weaker in terms of raw dps, the damage inflicted by the flame puddles (that can also affect air troops) can pile up if ignored. What they should've also included was a new merge defense with the mortars, whens the last time those were a threat. Make the merged mortar shoot multiple shots(or only two) but they can track like a mini EA. Of course it'll still have a blind spot but this makes it balanced, I guess also give it one more tile to it's range. Also the flame spitter has a wider cone than the air sweeper

you do realize that this is because people deliberately target the eagle artillery. Thus the eagle artillery still changes the attacks as it’s a major focus point that’s like saying “the town hall is useless since it’s always destroyed!” Well of course it is, people target it since it’s strong.

I think thee buff it needs without changing the damage is if the projectile homes into initial target then follow a straight line AND remove the angle of attack.
Frankly, I disagree on a couple fronts: A: serious the new weapon is sick, the DoT area can do some serious work on your troops if you don't worry about them B: it being permanently active is an extremely scary thing, the TH weapon has always been relatively monsterous for damage, it might not be as scary as the eagle was but now its permanently active... no more sniping it without getting hit back C: we still haven't seen much of th17 yet, once defenses are maxed out and once the devs get around to adding whatever new levels and stuff we still need to get it will be harder D: there were too many problem defenses as it was... I don't strictly agree that the eagle needed to go, but its not a bad pick as its a huge specific threat gone, the merged defenses are more than enough of a threat to replace it. Also we need to merge for more giga bombs, give me giant bomb > giga bomb merge. If I can put 3 of them around the base then the blimp problem drops significantly... seriously use your traps better people Also also, I feel like we need some buffs for the new TH weapon, but only some, yes its weak right now but a minor DPS and range buff would make it quite the unit. "Go back and undo everything" isn't a good solution, I think buffing the TH is much more realistic
Eagle Artillery being turned into a glorified multi mortar, the removal of that cool super bomb and being replaced by a stupid trap, and the replacements are two turtles that spit fire. Yay. Gonna rush past TH17 when TH18 comes out. I wish it was like a cannon or something being merged with the Town hall for a turret or something.
A simple fix is to give it two fazes. Half open with the eagle artillery canon in the middle and fully open with the attack + a huge damage boost. Something along with it that I think could be interesting is being able to swap out the eagle cannon for the giga-bomb and vice versa which would give bases more variation in the way they defend
@@Ethan7_7 The circle in the picture actually has a 12 tile radius. Although, what is shown with the numbers 1-12 is total nonsense. The numbers 1-12 are placed on the tiles on the diameter, but these tiles are diagonal to each other, meaning that the length of the diameter should thus be 12 sqrt(2) tiles. Moreover, the diagonal has 4 more tiles under the town hall that *aren't counted at all*. If you counted those 4 tiles under the town hall, you'd get a diameter of 16 tiles _diagonally_, equating to a 16 sqrt(2) tile diameter or 8 sqrt(2) radius, which is approximately equal to 11.3 tiles. This is much closer to the 12 tile value for the radius, and I believe the extra 0.7 tiles are lost on the edge as there is a half tile that isn't counted. A much easier way of seeing that the radius is 12 tiles is to just count in the direction of the grid lines, not diagonally. You can clearly see from the picture that (for example on the bottom right) there are 10 visible rows of tiles between the edge of the town hall and the edge of the circle, and adding the two tiles under the town hall gives a total of 12 tiles for the radius.
The eagle was slowly losing its value as attack strategies evolve for the higher town halls. While I’m also sad to see it go, I’m going to wait and see in how the meta shifts over the next year or so before jumping to conclusions 💀

It did get a sizable radius decrease and now triggers when troops are near and not just when the TH is destroyed. And that's fine. But the gigabomb has fundamentally changed.

@@Cine95the TH17 is now it's own signature defence that can attack more enemies at once and leave a poison behind with each shot. That is infinitely more useful than a slow fire rate single target 3 shot burst weapon that covers most of the village.

You know, if they made the townhall immune to offensive spells (lightning, freeze, overgrowth) then that could be a balancing factor, considering the eagle can easily be stalled with overgrowth or destroyed with a freeze and rush

The eagle artillery was the only defense worth protecting because nothing on the map was safe. Now that time is over. Rip. Also, removing the hero boost just reduces the time I'm going to be playing since the regen is brutal at those higher TH lvls.
If we need to lose our EA for this, I expect the merged EA to one-shot literally any troop that it hits. Going from full map coverage to 12 tiles with what looks to be pretty mediocre damage for this is underwhelming.
Yet you get two new defenses, placing the giga bomb wherever you want, and a weapon that activates right at the start of an attack. It’s arguably better than the Eagle. Yet this video didn’t want to mention any of the positives. Th 17 also isn’t finished getting all its upgrade levels.

What if the town hall released a robotic eagle after it died (like you said) which couldn't be attacked. Then it would shoot 4-8 shots to different targets with the most HP. These shots would do area damage of 2 tiles. This way, the eagle artillery will be like the last ditch effort (like the giga bomb). The giga bomb can stay as a trap, as it can be a deterrent for players to attack from the side in which it is placed.
This roboti eagle would be a sight to behold. It would fly up into the air and release 4-8 consecutive shells. After that, it would self combust, dealing extra damage to troops around it (2 tile radius).
It would be interesting lore for the builder as well. The builder would have had to construct a mechanical bird out of parts of the eagle artillery.
You cannot upgrade your townhall to 17 without merging with eagle.

The townhall in all the game play i saw is actually stronger than this video makes it seem, just watch Galadon gaming or Judo Sloth, Judo makes it look easy but it still takes some strategy to destroy and that's not with Max defenses and now you also have to consider the new Minion Prince is gonna be a very strong defense too on top of all the new levels
I dont mind the merging idea since a lot of defences end up just taking space for no reason. However, the main abilities have to be maintained. If you want to add a new defence mechanism, just create it and merge it with time, but removing the mechanism completely doesn't sound right to me
As a th14 in legends league, I’m happier to be matched with a th17 than with a th16. Number of times I’ve 3 starred a 17 is also higher than I have a 16. Largely because of the absence of EA and the gigabomb. The random gigabomb may take out a few of my troops but the one attached to the th always dealt more damage as the th attracted more troops.

The eagle was actually pretty irrelevant at higher town halls, so calling it the strongest defence is kind of strange. (Except if you use edrags or multiple hero charges)
Merging the collectors will negatively impact the game in multiple ways. Farming will become way too easy and greatly lower retention. Funneling becomes a lot easier with less trash buildings to worry about. Plus the eagle isn’t that good in the higher town halls. The current meta involves destroying it quickly and I’m glad they’re finally changing things up. Don’t forget they want to keep the game oriented to where it’s a village rather than this impenetrable fortress with barely any non-defensive buildings.

This is inevitable. I can understand your dilemma, however its important to note that supercell plans out the game two years in advance. Meaning they know what they want the game to be 2 years out at any given moment. With that being said it’s likely that they crafted some things for town hall 18 that made them realize the approaches they needed to take with town hall 17. In other words, town hall 17 needs to be a nice bridge for what is coming at town hall 18. While certain claims are backed with logical reasons and arguments for what players have access to, we have to remember that supercell isn’t thinking that way. They are thinking about the future of the game and how that impacts what you play with now. So while we might not like these changes, we will bear the fruits of their changes eventually. Itll take some getting used to.

At higher town halls there should be side grades and not upgrades. Add a completely new defense or maybe something that replaces another defense but has a similar overall strength to another. It could add more variety to the game while still keeping the base bloat lower.

I completely agree with everything you said. I myself, don't like the eagle merge and the thrower troop of this update. It has lost its "eagle" meaning. An eagle is a bird with immense vision capabilities...which means infinite range. This is such a dumb move. Also, the firespitters are so lame. Idk what happened. They could've easily given 2 mini eagles instead of firespitters with a smaller range as compensation for merging the main one. Idk.
The thrower seems weird... Like we have a 16-HS troop with few HP and very little damage. Only somewhat long range but idk what the value offering is.
Compared to the Electro Titan, which doubles the housing space, quadruples the HP, sacrifices all range but has an aura that attacks everything (on top of its vanilla attack).
I'm missing something here.

The weird part is that the shots do not track so they can miss. However the shots can pierce one troop so it's semi aoe. Basically it's meant to deal high damage at targets that are closer and the shots that miss/pierce can hit troops as collateral damage.
I think like with the inferno artillery, it's meant to act as more of a support as if you don't keep these defense in mind, it can be devastating as the their dps can grow if ignored

Eh, I think if they just buffed the range up to 15ish tiles and buffed the weapon damage by like 50% max it would be plenty.
They entirely skipped it in this video but the fact that the weapon is permanently active is a genuinely massive buff, even a little additional range would help it abuse that fact better, and some more damage since it IS somewhat weak
Totally agree. As a defence the new TH is easier to deal with than at TH16, even without considering that the Eagle is also gone. The additional defences and new Hero Hall do offset this though (stats wise) for, both DPS and HP overall. Still, not having to make plans to take out Eagle and TH makes attacking more straightforward.
6:32 the animation they made perfectly shows how it couldve been done better, it shows it as a rapid fire throughout the entire base with a small cooldown. which wouldve made it more reasonable to get rid of the bomb after destroying it. It wouldve felt more rewarding to take down the most deadly defense in the base, but now it just feels like any other defense but with more health.
Exactly, and it is much easier to destroy now, because it is generally weaker than the giga inferno. The old town halls also struggled with freeze spells. But they still did some damage and the giga bomb was deadly. Now there's nothing scary about raiding the centre of the base.

A real murge would sum up the hitpoints and the damage of both defenses together. If you do the math the new defenses are weaker than its individuals defenses in TH15
Town Hall 17 Fix Idea:
- 25 Tile range
- Has around 15K HP (since it's merged with a building that has 6200HP)
- Does even more damage than TH16 when destroyed
- Does a bit less damage than EA but every shot has the poison effect
- Activates after dropping 200 units of troops

If you're still worried about the poison bomb at this time then you likely use an army that goes for the TH first without cutting the other defenses down beforehand.
And btw, most players use the warden ability long before reaching the TH 🙄. They don't wait until their at the TH to use it, only TH14 players do that.
So that's why we have strategy we can use overgrowth spell or just use warden ability. That is essential of th 16 but now after we destroyed th just nothing and judosloth also said a little bit same. In my opinion Eagle artillery was the iconic of coc and the animation was so good but now just like that.

@@GodOfChaos_HeXaI feel like the direction with the defense is "DO NOT IGNORE ME" or a more support angle as the flame spitter(although inaccurate) can deal collateral damage from a far and the inferno artillery although definitely weaker in terms of raw dps, the damage inflicted by the flame puddles (that can also affect air troops) can pile up if ignored. What they should've also included was a new merge defense with the mortars, whens the last time those were a threat.
Make the merged mortar shoot multiple shots(or only two) but they can track like a mini EA. Of course it'll still have a blind spot but this makes it balanced, I guess also give it one more tile to it's range.
Also the flame spitter has a wider cone than the air sweeper

Firespitter more useless than mortar
Frankly, I disagree on a couple fronts:
A: serious the new weapon is sick, the DoT area can do some serious work on your troops if you don't worry about them
B: it being permanently active is an extremely scary thing, the TH weapon has always been relatively monsterous for damage, it might not be as scary as the eagle was but now its permanently active... no more sniping it without getting hit back
C: we still haven't seen much of th17 yet, once defenses are maxed out and once the devs get around to adding whatever new levels and stuff we still need to get it will be harder
D: there were too many problem defenses as it was... I don't strictly agree that the eagle needed to go, but its not a bad pick as its a huge specific threat gone, the merged defenses are more than enough of a threat to replace it.
Also we need to merge for more giga bombs, give me giant bomb > giga bomb merge. If I can put 3 of them around the base then the blimp problem drops significantly... seriously use your traps better people
Also also, I feel like we need some buffs for the new TH weapon, but only some, yes its weak right now but a minor DPS and range buff would make it quite the unit. "Go back and undo everything" isn't a good solution, I think buffing the TH is much more realistic

Yep, I've been saying that I wish we could upgrade to town hall 17 without merging the Eagle artillery, but they don't give us that choice.
A simple fix is to give it two fazes. Half open with the eagle artillery canon in the middle and fully open with the attack + a huge damage boost. Something along with it that I think could be interesting is being able to swap out the eagle cannon for the giga-bomb and vice versa which would give bases more variation in the way they defend

The numbers 1-12 are placed on the tiles on the diameter, but these tiles are diagonal to each other, meaning that the length of the diameter should thus be 12 sqrt(2) tiles. Moreover, the diagonal has 4 more tiles under the town hall that *aren't counted at all*.
If you counted those 4 tiles under the town hall, you'd get a diameter of 16 tiles _diagonally_, equating to a 16 sqrt(2) tile diameter or 8 sqrt(2) radius, which is approximately equal to 11.3 tiles. This is much closer to the 12 tile value for the radius, and I believe the extra 0.7 tiles are lost on the edge as there is a half tile that isn't counted.
A much easier way of seeing that the radius is 12 tiles is to just count in the direction of the grid lines, not diagonally. You can clearly see from the picture that (for example on the bottom right) there are 10 visible rows of tiles between the edge of the town hall and the edge of the circle, and adding the two tiles under the town hall gives a total of 12 tiles for the radius.

The Gigabomb did not get removed, it was added as a separate building. If you dont like it just place it next to the town hall.
It did get a sizable radius decrease and now triggers when troops are near and not just when the TH is destroyed.
And that's fine.
But the gigabomb has fundamentally changed.

@@Cine95the TH17 is now it's own signature defence that can attack more enemies at once and leave a poison behind with each shot. That is infinitely more useful than a slow fire rate single target 3 shot burst weapon that covers most of the village.

I so agree with you the eagle should have never been a choice to be removed in the first placed. especially for good. what is the point of upgrading it if you are going to remove it anyways. just remove it all together then clash of clans.
You know, if they made the townhall immune to offensive spells (lightning, freeze, overgrowth) then that could be a balancing factor, considering the eagle can easily be stalled with overgrowth or destroyed with a freeze and rush

The eagle artillery was the only defense worth protecting because nothing on the map was safe. Now that time is over. Rip.
Also, removing the hero boost just reduces the time I'm going to be playing since the regen is brutal at those higher TH lvls.
If we need to lose our EA for this, I expect the merged EA to one-shot literally any troop that it hits. Going from full map coverage to 12 tiles with what looks to be pretty mediocre damage for this is underwhelming.
Yet you get two new defenses, placing the giga bomb wherever you want, and a weapon that activates right at the start of an attack.
It’s arguably better than the Eagle. Yet this video didn’t want to mention any of the positives.
Th 17 also isn’t finished getting all its upgrade levels.
It's like you can't place our town hall 17 anywhere we want like the previous town halls that had the eagle artillery. Now it's like we are being forced to have it in the middle of our base.
