When this video was recorded in 2009, Roy was 84 years old. Drummers...you know how incredible this is. There are drummers in their 20s and 30s who don't and can't play this well.
Dave Kikoski with Roy Haynes? Whaaaaat?!?! It doesn't get any better than this. Unless John Patitucci is added!! Whaaaaat?!?! I've seen all of these guys live and let me tell you, it's great to see the MASTER BEASTS join together! Thank you Crazy 8s Drums!!
Me encanta como tocaPatitucci!, lo que nunca me gusta de él es su duro sonido, Roy un grande, padre de la polyrritmia en la batería junto con Jack De Johnette, Kikoski un gran pianista de jazz.
yeah dave and john - smoking. and of course roy always killer. great tunes and ensemble playing - keeping it loose but nailing everything. dancing. great...
Dave, miss hearing you live...and thanks for all you taught me about Jazz on those many oprtunities I had playing along with you!Merry X-Mas and and Great New Year!
Gorgeous song. It was originally called "Music from Beyond the Moon" and recorded by Vic Damone, in '48, I think. The new lyrics were substituted a few years later.
The setlist above is a mess. No offense intended; the info and graphics on the screen from the original broadcast are mis-timed, and the song titles displayed are for the most part incorrect/misspelled. HERE is the painstakingly researched, properly sequenced, and accurately named rundown of the tunes on this INCREDIBLE show: Trinkle, Tinkle (Monk) Blues On The Corner (McCoy Tyner) Sonny Side (Patitucci) James (Metheny) My One And Only Love (Guy Wood - Robert Mellin) Shades of Senegal (Haynes) Green Chimneys (Monk) Jesus on the Mainline (Traditional -Patitucci Solo) Inner Trust (Kikoski) Summer Night (Al Dubin-Harry Warren) Sneakin' Around (Ray Bryant)
I'm not sure about those tune titles. It's obviously Trinkle Tinkle. Sunny Sibe is probably Sunny Side. With Suppliers Night the mind boggles. It's Summer Night, a very beautiful tune Roy plays a lot. But with Smoker Are You, I haven't got a clue. Who cares anyway, it's the music that counts and this is a fantastic performance with "good positive vibrations", to quote the man himself. Thanks Roy, you're my hero. And a wonderful band, from the comments they made, about to play the last gig of their tour in Almunecar, down the road from where I live. Small world, wonderful music.
That one that was titled "Shadow of Senegal" is sooo good, like 27:00 mins thru 36:00 or so. Wish I could find the real title for that song, the closest thing I could find was a drum solo by Roy called "Shade of Senegal". Those keys are straight up beautiful.
By hearing this, although Kikoski is excellent, Chick Corea is a genius. Corea´s lines are more melodic, clear and all is perfect in the exact measure of everything. But this is a good show.
RIP to my favorite drummer....Roy Haynes. 1925 - 2024. 99 years. Thank you for the many years of phenomenal music and drumming! Peace be upon you.
Even Art Blakey says... Roy Haynes is the best ever. Saw him at the montreal Jazz Fest in 06- he was KILLER! People were screaming!
THE BEST OF THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING CONCERT GOD BLESS ROY HAYNES 🙏🙏🙏 REST IN PEACE BROTHER 🙏🙏🙏
Not only play drums. Roy Haynes is Forever Roy Haynes!
Haynes 84 years old at the time.... hats off!
It's crazy how music keeps the brain young
Simolky incredible !
Never ages !!

NO drummer in their 20's or 30's could ever play that well.
Unless he was Tony Williams.
You are mistaking physical strength with art.
You’re confusing knowledge with arrogance…
First tune is "Trinkle Tinkle" by Monk, the 2nd tune is "Blues on the Corner" McCoy Tyne
So long, Roy. Thank you.
Rest in Swing🎉🎵🦁🌈

Yes. Gets better. Listen to Chick Corea with Roy Raynes, album "Remembering Bud Powell". 😀👍
The last 3 songs are Inner Trust, Summer Night, Smoker Are You.
Magnificent.
Brilliant set. Kikoski's a killer.
What i love about these guys.. ....no music gets trapped in their heads.....they think it...and play it......
Such intricate play with time and feel, especially with this fine elegant hi-hat work. Excellent!
ピアノもベースもドラムス🥁🥁🥁もみんなノリノリ最高なんです。🥁🥁🥁‼️
what a master drummer!! still love him!!
Amazing!!!
Cheers! It is a wonderful performance!
GRACIAS MAESTRO....POR TANTO..!!!!

Sublime
IMO the best drummer jazz has known. Love his work with--EVERYBODY!!
Oh yes. And n his many years of being a top drummer there are not many he HASN'T played with.
...GROOVE ON..

Mad
Junto con el grandioso Jack De Johnette Roy Haynes creadores de la polirrítmia en la batería!
7:00 blues on the corner
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Really dig Kikoski!!!! New to me!!! Beautiful Romantic period influence. Rachmaninoff?

Chick is not there, usually on piano. The drummer is Roy Haynes.
I'll be upping a complete Chick Corea Elektric Band performance tomorrow...if the utube copyright thing doesn't prevent it. Fingers crossed! :D
who ever this bass player is he's one of the baddest cats alive.
Oh yeah that’s just John Patitucci, no big deal. Check out live recordings of him with Chick Corea!
ça balance quel que soit l'âge ...
Anyone know the drum sizes Mr . Haynes uses in this performance?
What k is on the left? It's a k custom 16?
Is that an 18" flat ride?
It may be a 19". Roy played flat rides very often.
Crazy 8s Drums It is a 20" K Custom Flat Top Ride. Roy's been playing those for quite a while, and they always sound great.
are you a drummer?
where was this recorded?
He looks like 50.Not over 80!
cool Stephen Colbert appearance.. My mom wants to date you
