I have no idea why your videos haven't shown up for me lately. I went looking for you this morning and I'm so glad I found this. There are sometimes that B&W is the perfect choice. Now I need to investigate how my camera might show me a monotone preview. -Elaine
Dear Gary, you are a really top Photographer. Your Videos and especially your Photos are great. Years ago, I have been in Scotland, Edinburgh of course, but else Fort William and Maillag with the steam locomotive. When I see your photos, I am remembering my holidays. Best wishes for 2022 from Munich, Germany.
Thankyou very much for your kind comments Peter, really appreciated 🙏 The places you mention are stunning and I'm glad the videos provide a reminder for you. All the best, Gary😁👍
Hi Gary. I love the monochrome look. On the pentax o shoot with I can not only preview in black and white but I can add filters and see the difference on screen. I love the infared and red filters. They really punch the textures and contrast. But if I want a softer look then the yellow is enough. It's worth noting also that it's not perfect black and white as the sensors are colour models in most cameras. You can get specific versions of cameras but they aren't cheap. So what we have does a good job for what we need. The other alternative is of course film but thats another learning curve for some. I used to shoot it daily and bought film in bulk. Remember those days? I miss it but a couldn't go back now I'm just to comfortable with digital. Great video Gary and gorgeous images. My kinda images. See you next time.
Thanks very much for watching Simon, glad you enjoyed the video. Yes I remember them well. I haven't shot film in nearly 20 years now, but have a Mamiya sitting on the shelf which I keep promising myself I'll get a roll and try it. Maybe one day😁👍
@@GaryMcIntyrePhotographer lol small world. My 645s is staring at me also. I miss shooting slide film also. So good and rich to look at. Ah maybe one day. Lol.
Gary, I just discovered your channel and have to say I am enjoying it. I’ve only watched a few videos so far but I’ll be rewinding to watch all previous. I’m taking particular inspiration because my wife and I (we’re in the US) will be spending this summer in the UK as we did 2019. At that time we visited the Scottish Highlands and fell in love. Keep up the good work.
nice tuto. Z6ii ? which lens ? i suppose you post proces the color image based on what you see in bw jpg ? can you make a tuto explaining how you retouched your bw images ?
Thanks for this! I often edit photos in B&W because I do like how it can express a different feeling and highlight different parts of a scene than color does (where color can be distracting). But, I've not tried setting my camera up to preview in B&W, which would make the analysis of the scene's textures and contrast real time instead of trying to force it in post. I'll have to figure out how to set this up on my camera (Sony A7III)!
On my A7r2 and A6400 you cannot do this, at least I can’t find a way as this comes under; “Picture Effect” and only works when shooting JPEGs only, it wont work with either RAW or RAW + JPEGs. Not sure re A7III, if it has the new Sony menus of the current Sony cameras. It does Work on my Leica Q2. Old Sony menus always been a pain in the past. Hope your A7III has the newer menu versions. Another great video Gary, thanks for sharing.
@@GaryMcIntyrePhotographer Sadly, it is not... nothing is with Sony's menu system. The only way I can find to get the screen to show monochrome is to switch the output to monochrome. I'm not sure that's a big loss since the color data wouldn't be needed anyway.
Excennt video Gary - not something that would immediately spring to mind with landscape, but as you have shown, there are some great moody shots to be had. It is also nice to know that by shooting in RAW you also get to do a colour version if required
Glad you enjoyed it Nigel and many thanks for watching. It's actually really good for the moody skies and the total blue sky days. Creates some interesting results👍
I took a bunch of musician photos back in the day on B&W film. Since it was available light I did a lot of fast film and push processed. Great images but very grainy. Do you have any techniques to soften or remove the grain without softening the image?
While watching the video a thought came to my mind. Would you be able to determine the colors that offer more brightness that I would want to expose for?
Thanks for watching Curt. I normally try to expose for best overall contrast, but the brighter colours in a scene to expose for would be within the yellows with tints on either side of that into the yellow/orange and yellow/green. Hope that helps a bit👍
Can I suggest you try film? Your skill level deserves a try. Additionally you won't have to deal with unneeded trash data leaving your film plane full of printable data. I have several digital cameras but limit their use to color.
Black and white changes everything. Nice shots mate‼️✌️🌻🇦🇺
Many thanks, glad you like them😁👍
Awesome! excellent job has been done thanks for sharing have a nice day
Nice one. Like your shots. There is something wonderful about b&w photos. Want to start my b&w journey and thus look at your and others' videos.
Excellent black and white photography and beautiful post processing
Wow ... who knew? Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Monochrome, my favorite color.
Gorgeous!
Pretty images
Fantástico vídeo Gary. Me encantan las fotos. Un saludo.
Many thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it😁👍👍
Hi Gary, beautiful shots , I love to see you do editing how to achieve the B&W .
My dad loaned me his black and white camera to take photos in 1961. I like your BLK & White
Did he give you some black and white film with it?
Nice one Gary, I know that first location quite well it's a great wee hill.
Thanks for watching Ian, glad you enjoyed it. Yeah it's a stunning wee place. Only second time I've been there but will definitely be back.👍
Such character in Mono...great captures and love the opening drone sequence!
Many thanks for watching David. Yes I got it back very quickly thanks to DJI 😁👍
Awesome video ❤ brilliant technique ❤
Beautiful, beautiful beautiful images.
Was those shot with the Fuji GFX 50S? What lens did you use?
Lovely....
Very inspiring.....very interesting.

Your work certainly is inspiring... thank you.
Thanks Gary! Great tip for previewing in B&W. I love B&W photos as I feel it shows what we don't all see and makes a boring scene interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it Henry, thanks for watching😁👍
Good work, Sir... Do you always post edit your pictures?
Great images Gary - I'm inspired to try this weekend - thanks !
Many thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video😁👍
Top video Gary. I'm gonna try what you suggested instead of converting them once I put them on my computer. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Gavin. It's definitely worth giving it a go. Thanks again for watching 👍
Really enjoyed that wish you’d given the camera settings for the photos

Great video!
It is like a tutorial for me!
Thank you!

Nice B/W landscapes looks great but you are not using the x-t 3 anymore?

Is it possible to shoot in monochrome using older cameras? Specifically 1980's and older.
@2:12 You have swapped over to your 14-30, what have you swapped over from?
👍
What lens are you using please?
If you please sir, can you tell me the tripod name??? I need a heavy duty one...
Its an Artcise tripod. Thanks for watching 😀👍
