This Monday (August 5th, 2024), a station opened on the green line at Damen/Lake, 3 blocks from the United Center. Getting to games is going to be so much smoother now. Love my Blackhawks and their madhouse so much.
Great video! I think you hit the nail right on the head with the fans not being in the best relations with the team. The anthem used to be better back when the team was watchable and didn’t have all of the off the ice issues known to the public. Funnily enough, I sat in that same section back in January. Both Hawks and Bulls games are great there, I’ve been to two of each this year. I’m glad you enjoyed the UC!
Thanks so much! Yeah, I feel bad for Blackhawks fans. The organization is a mess now and it’s got to be difficult to support them. I did really enjoy the arena though and that section gave us a great view of the game!
The anthem used to be a deafening roar of cheers from start to finish. Unfortunately that tradition has faded. I was the only one in my section cheering at the start and everyone was just looking at me. You used to be looked at funny if you weren’t cheering during the entire anthem
I been to the United center in 2015 it's a pretty nice building I've been to a bulls and Blackhawk game the Blackhawk game I went to it was awesome Patrick Kane scored a goal and the atmosphere was awesome on a Saturday night it is a little tricky to get to the arena but they have express bus for both the bulls and the Blackhawks and the NCAA tournament you have a great channel keep up the great content
Thanks so much! Yeah, it’s a super cool place and I wish the atmosphere was a little better the night that I went. Good to know that they have a reliable bus as another option to get there.
In 2002 we saw Springsteen and Paul McCartney on back to back nights. From the third deck we felt that we were watching fans who were watching a concert. The old Palace Of Auburn Hills was huge as well as was the old Richfield Coliseum.
Something I have noticed about the United Center is that when I went to a Chicago Bulls game yesterday, I noticed that on the north side of the arena, I did not see the Chicago Blackhawks and visitor team tunnel. How are the NHL players going to play their games if the tunnels are blocked? The NHL players are going to be trapped when it is time for them to get out of the tunnel. Wait til you go to a Chicago Bulls game and you will see for yourself.
The affiliate of the blackhawks are in Rockford Illinois and they are currently in the playoffs if you'd want to do a review on their arena. ( bmo harris bank center)
Yeah! I was just at an Admirals playoff game last night. It may not be until next season when I get the chance to make it down to the Ice Hogs but I also want to check out the Chicago Wolves and do a review on them as well next year.
Ayo, let's go Jackets!! What a fun game. I've been there for a couple games now and I agree, the Blackhawks fans have always been pretty cool to me even when I'm sporting Jackets gear. Great video as usual!
Looks like the Blackhawks attendance has once again dropped off now that they're not good anymore. As a kid and hockey player growing up in Chicago I was a big Hawks fan, after the Chris Chelios/Tony Amonte/Eddy Belfour era diminished the team lost popularity and basically I felt like the only hockey fan in Chicago. I would often try to talk to people about the Blackhawks and was often told nobody cares about hockey and fan support sucked. To be fair the owner refused to televise their home games at the time because he thought it would hurt ticket sales. But low and behold, once they won the Stanley Cup all of a sudden everyone were big Blackhawks fans and they were extremely popular again. And of course everyone pretended like they had always been fans lol. They had a sellout streak that lasted for years but based off your video the atmosphere looks dead compared to what it was 5-10 years ago.
That’s the dangerous cyclical pattern of being a team winning cups and then losing talent and tanking for draft picks. Chicago seems to do it the hardest of any team. I think the attendance was also hurt that night since it was a rescheduled game and the snowstorm. Thanks so much for sharing your experience and insight! I love getting to hear locals thoughts on the culture and atmosphere around their team. (If you’re a Chicago baseball fan I’ve also visited both the Cubs and White Sox and did reviews there)
Not only the team being unwatchable, but the sexual abuse situation and how the Wirtz family handled it makes it hard to support the team. Still watch hockey casually and know most of the current roster, but I'm sure like a lot of Chicago fans it's really no longer a priority.
@@jacobadrian1115 I think that’s a huge reason why attendance has dropped off. Makes it really hard to support an organization that silences the voices of their players after something truly awful happened.
Just discovered this video, great job! Did you see if there was glass sheets around the player tunnels that would prevent fans from reaching over for fist bumps?
6:20 If your favorite NHL (National Hockey League) team is Columbus Blue Jackets and your favorite AHL (American Hockey League) team is Cleveland Monsters, That must mean your favorite ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) team is Either Cincinnati Cyclones that is in your home state of ohio and the other 2 teams that I mention or Kalamazoo Wings that is affiliated with Columbus Blue Jackets and Cleveland Monsters.
I don’t really follow the ECHL close enough to have a favourite team but would probably choose the Cyclones as my number one followed by the KWings due to the affiliation. I do really love the branding of the Orlando Solar Bears and Florida Everblades though.
Love going to games just sucks with transportation! N ya no bars around the place . Careful with cabs they will charge 50 bucks so maybe get a lyft but they kinda expensive as well so be prepared lol
We got to the game about 1 and half hours before the atrium opened planning to go to the store. Everything said they were open but they weren’t so we got to stand outside in the freezing cold and blowing snow for over an hour. It was a good game even though we lost
I didn’t know they also use Chelsea Dagger. It’s a banger of a goal song! I just realized that the league the Ice Flyers are in has a team in Northern Illinois that’s like 3 hours from me. Maybe I’ll try to make it to a game when they play your team!
My family lives in Wisconsin and we made a trip to a Blackhawks game at the uc a few years ago, Blackhawks was the best team in the league playing the worst team in the league and unfortunately the blacks lost 0-1 in ot.
Nice! The United Center is super cool. I also came down for the day from Wisconsin. Sorry that they lost against a bad team. That’s always the worst. Especially since they never even scored.
Blackhawks fan here and I have to say..The hawk's goal theme is way outplayed at this point..running on almost 15 years now. I cant stand that goal song anymore, every time I go to a game, its like..ok time for a change...new era here.
It's a goofy song, but it's also arguably the most effective song in sports. It demoralizes the away team while boosting our guys up. Sure, the box can ignore heckling and chirping, but it's impossible to ignore 20,000 people in song. If you've ever been to United while the Hawks are doing well, you can actually see the away teams' faces drop in morale. Da da da forever. Hawks win.

That sounds like a fun gig! I’ve been pat the Palace once before and it had that old coliseum vibe to it.

Jackets fans have been beyond cordial when I'm repping Hawks apparel at Nationwide Arena.

Admirals games are always a blast!
Maybe someday the family and I can go on a trip but I'm big fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL

good video. Thank you

FYI… nothing about 2010 has anything to do with attendance. It’s the poor product on the ice.
Since you were sitting on the bottom row, did you see yourself on the scoreboard?
No, I don’t think I saw myself at all.
The hawks goal song is WAYY BETTTR than cbjs goal song. Buyest
Oh yeah. I’m totally bias here, I’ll admit that. Haha! Both songs are great though.
That's better lol
I was at that same game!

What happened in 2010?
There were a lot of allegations that surfaced that the team decided to ignore.
go hawks
I like old time Hockey. Somehow this new stadium doesn't seem like old time hockey. :(
