Wow! I don't know the Editors but this has cut me up! I love the Sprouts and Steve McQueen is one of my favourite albums....I love Joy Division too and have epilepsy...guess the rest...
Bonny (the original) is not simply a song that I like; it's something special, it's part of me; touches something deep down in my soul; needless to say, it's somehow "untouchable" to me; but music is too big, you just can't stop it; as far as I'm concerned this cover is nice; it.s nice because is different yet respectful and surely in no way scoffing; I don't like comparisons; they don't let you see things as they are. So, without prejudice, thumbs up.
I'm with you. Editors and JD are completely, entirely different bands. In fact, Editors and JD are some of the most unique bands to have ever come about, and no band sounds like either of them. They both have their own individual sound.
Very pretty video. That movie was so sad. Ironically, I only discovered who Joy Division were because people kept comparing Editors to them. Otherwise, I probably would have never heard of JD. Now both bands have changed my life.
as a life long prefab sprout fan, i never thought i'd say this. this version is just as good. I also love editors. it almost makes it a different song. it makes me cry my eyes out.
ME DA MUCHA TRISTEZA EL FINAL DEL VIDEO QUE SE ME CAYERON HASTA LAS LAGRIMAS, UNA GRAN CANCION DE EDITORS PARA HOMENAJEAR A LA LEYENDA DEL POST PUNK: IAN CURTIS GENIO Y FIGURA Q.E.P.D.
This is controversial i know but imo this is so much better than the original, they totally made it there own song.Id never heard the original but now i have i dont think they can compare. There is no rule that states the original version HAS to be the best,I THINK WE SAY THAT JUST OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE WRITER BUT THIS VERSION IS PHENOMINAL AND THE VIDEO JUST TOPS IT OFF NICELY,BRILLIANT.
You have to listen de original song much more. Both songs have a very similar feeling and the original by Prefab Sprout is yet better; it's one of the best songs ever, if not the best.
@audioedge Agreed. For me, what makes the original is the outstanding vocal, and guitar tracks by Paddy, which the Editors omitted in favor of the predictable indie flourishes and hand claps.
but they do sound like Joy Division.. that's the point of the whole POST-PUNK revival. Joy division pretty much did it first and its not bullshit it's fact. great video btw...
@@sonidosanto got it and got it.the version..but still I am not sure doing your own song would be a cover.I write music and I would never think that I am doing a cover of myself. PreFab Sprout and Paddy, i guess you are saying he is doing his cover of himself.i would say it's a solo version of his song.anyway you cut it.it's a classic.
teige james Yes I know I know, it was just a way of saying it, instead of saying that he made another version of his song 😉 After those tremendous versions that he made that song it became almost untouchable ☝️🙌
there was an immediacy about his songs on the first two albums that started shifting by Jordan and after. There was An edge to this delivery and lyrics and chord phrasings ,and after Protest Songs, i think he took up the challenge of being a full spectrum songwriter, different styles- different voices often more of a ubiquitous point of narrative.Maybe part of it was the "gloss' arrangements and productions of a lot of the songs ( I remember when i first heard him use a Sax on a song, going "oh-oh",and on the first two it seemed more of the songwriter writing out of personal angst.frayed edges and all.
Sapphiree09 lol yea thought I was bit late getting to the party here lol great film . Love Joy Division and Prefab Sprout . Steve McQueen is a jewel of an album :-)
@@iSylvan1 yes, it got me into listening to Joy Division for some time :) I was Editors fan though and have never heard the original of this song, I will fix it.
***** A lot of their songs sound EXACTLY like an Ian Curtis driven post-punk track (with crappy lyrics unfortunately). They can claim not to be influenced, but only ignorant people would believe that :)
Actually, you can be influenced by an artist and not necessarily sound like that artist. For example, Paul from interpol. He claims that he likes hip hop (or rap idk) a lot. However, he does not make rap music. You see, you can be influenced by the simple fact of making good music, but that does not mean that you have to sound like what your influenced on. Another thing is imitating. Thats a whole different story.
Bexorcist I don't care what you say about the comparison between the bands instrumentally, but lyrically Tom smith is a saint and tells the tale of tragic beauty
Debra LaRue Myself and others who have heard the original still can appreciate the cover by Editors. The fact they covered this songs shows an appreciation to the original and Paddy would have granted permission for its use. Also as for the Ian C thing. There are plenty of videos with songs not related to the video. Heck I normally smack video games onto a soundtrack. Watching the film and listening to the cover I wanted to make something which I did all those years back.
Of all Prefab Sprout songs, Bonny is still my favourite after all these years. Editors really did it justice. A great cover.
Goddammit I just can't forget this cover, such a perfect song by a perfect band
Paddy made wonderful masterpieces ! this is one of them.
youtube really coming in clutch recommending these rare videos😳
Yeah seems at random 🤣
This song is beyond perfect....

The Late, Great Ian Curtis!!
I would like this song one hundred times over if I could, props to Tom and the uploader

oh this is magic !! what a song, what a voice .. !! Prefab Sprout must be so honoured of Editors cover ........ MAGIC ..........
Great song from prefab sprout... great editors cover
this cover is simply amazing!
This is so perfect.
Terrific and tragic cover. Superb.
I'm back toomuchwhiskey, this song with the video still gets me..
Great cover of a beautifull song!
Prefab Sprout
thank you for this, I loved the original but this is great too..
love this video and the song. perfect match

Amazing song. It really is. I really love Editors.
Love this. Thank you!!
Getting shivers😩❤️
Amazing! simply amaizing! :D
Nice cover of such an amazing track written from a unique band !

Thanks Paddy , great song
"have i got Barcleys tattoed on my head",the manager makes the film, hillarious!
Still the best cover of all time
well an amazing band and an amazing movie! You deserve the views! (and like 36 of them are mine at least)

AMAZING!!!
aww thanks again :D also welcome back *hugs*

HERMOSA CANCION!
me too .. exactly !!
Nice cover
It is still a great sounding cover
I love the cover :) wish they would play it live.
Justice!

Wait, what was Tom Smith singing? Was it a cover? (Sorry for my lack of knowledge).
@audioedge Agreed. For me, what makes the original is the outstanding vocal, and guitar tracks by Paddy, which the Editors omitted in favor of the predictable indie flourishes and hand claps.
@TheDanny9543 Thank you :))
@toomuchwhiskey The creator of this song ¬¬, Prefab Sprout lead man
@Sapphiree09 its called Control its about the life of the band "joy Division"
@toomuchwhiskey correction....not so much JD as much as early new order, but youre right, the post punk revival did have a bit of an indie appeal
Yes I do!!
Interesting rendition of this 1985 song by Prefab Sprout but I still prefer the way PS sang it.
control or the lack of therein
but they do sound like Joy Division.. that's the point of the whole POST-PUNK revival. Joy division pretty much did it first and its not bullshit it's fact. great video btw...
lol...!!
It is clear that Ed sounds a lot like Ian Curtis, The Editors do not sound like the Incredible Joy Division....Fact
The BEST cover of this song was made Paddy McAloon ☝️
I am not sure you can "cover' your own song. But McAloon wrote a gem

Prefab Sprout + Joy Division =
Greek tragedy
Did Paddy ever say he wrote this about Ian C? This song is a work of art and should not have been covered by anyone.
