As much as I love the album version, but this one is also something else. I don't even dare to compare these two. I love them both. Thanks for sharing it.
This alternate version should have been included in the "Ties That Bind" box set. They should've had 2 discs of outtakes. I still don't understand why they didn't include the released "Bring On The Night" (from "Tracks") on to the outtakes disc. There was room for it. They could've included a 2nd outtakes disc. There is still material from The River" sitting in the can. Or they could have included alternate versions of songs.
I dont know how many of the early Springsteen bootlegs survived the decades between Asbury Park and Letter to You, but it was rare to hear any studio version of a song played the same way live - The Boss loved mixing it up in those early years and I'm willing to bet that this barnstormer got a run down on the Shore.
Some artists are so great, that even their discards are better than the material produced by most other artists. This is a very good rock song, but the version on the album is a great song. The album version makes you feel as if you lived a part of someone else's life. You feel the misery and desperation of poverty in your bones. This one doesn't quite get that across.
Agreed, and all three could just as easily have been given the ballad treatment he eventually settled on for Point Blank. This is ragged - obviously an outtake per the notes - and overall I prefer the album version but a big thank you to the uploader.
This is really good, but I'm very glad he released the smoky neo-noir version on The River. This one really reminds me of Jackson Cage, which (personally) I've always not liked. This also sounds a little bit like a bad "Because the Night". What makes the album version so great is how unique it sounds.
From what I've read he actually wrote this during the darkness on the edge of town sessions and it went through many revisions before landing on the river
Completely different song. Cool !!
This version is ALL about the blistering guitar solo--because there's not a SINGLE guitar solo on ALL of the released River album!

Good...but I'm glad we got the version he released on The River. That one's just hauntingly beautiful. Thanks for uploading this.
Version totalement différente de la version album....j’adore ! Vive le boss 👍😎✌️🎸
Very hauntingly beautiful and a favourite of mine ♥ This version is nice too, in its own way...
I really like diferent take on Point Blank. Please keeps these rarties coming!!!!!!
This is a good version. It's more upbeat but it still retains the sadness and darkness of the album version
Thank you so much to uploading this beautiful song

J'adore cette chanson!
Thanks for sharing!. I prefer the 1995 Bridge school version. Anyways - great song!

este tipo viajaba en el tiempo!!! es una versión muy actualizada, por algo no la usó, no encajaba en 1980.
Hear a little Roulette in this, also My love will not let you down

I had to ask: since I love Jackson Cage: why don't you like it? What bothers you about it?
I thought this version is really interesting and different. It almost sounds like Darkness.
From what I've read he actually wrote this during the darkness on the edge of town sessions and it went through many revisions before landing on the river
The boss OKEY
Is that version from River Refinery bootleg?
Please Bruce, change the lyrics and put it on your next album.
This or Downbound Train to open set with.
That's a stinging guitar solo.
Sounds like an Elvis Presley song
Great song but this arrangement doesn't work at all.
agree!
He apparently agreed with you that's why this is not the version he released on the river
