I once watched a Japan national team pitcher working out at a hitting tunnel with an American coach. She couldn’t hit with”depth” or “weight” . The coach brought a bunch of miniature basketballs for her to hit of a tee. The first few bounced her bat back almost knocking her out. When she got the hang of it she was driving the basketballs off the tee with purpose. When she went back to hitting softballs the transformation was amazing and she was driving those softballs for depth. No doubt she brought that training idea back to Japan with her.

I stumbled upon your videos and have been impressed with the content and your knowledge of the game. I have paid thousands for the same content. I applaud your efforts to help players stay in the game by developing the skill set to perform at a high level. For boys if they have leakage in their swing they quit the game at age 13 or 14 because they cannot catch up to the ball. I assume it is similar for girls. Your teachings on load, drills on approach, and especially your teachings on extension are awesome. Most hitting coaches have no idea what extension is! Plus your teachings on timing the drop of the heal triggers the hip vs squash the bug.... It's all about energy flow which you explain so well. Nice work. I write this to encourage people to appreciate the value of your content. Embrace, perform and always love the game.
I've played Softball with some of my friends when I lived on my own for awhile when I was 27 . Three of my best friends played softball in school and all Three teams they played for are my absolute favorite. Needless to say, I learned a lot from them and your videos it's been Three years now and I'm still good at softball but I definitely want to be the best.
As a long time coach and now hitting instructor, I would just like to compliment you on the EXCELLENT videos. Thank you for your contribution to the sport.
It’s so refreshing to see someone actually teach hitting with practical drills that actually help you. Too many fly by nights teaching nonsensical drills. From a former MLB player to you. Outstanding video !!
Thank you so much, your videos have helped me so much I have not played since t~ball and I’m 12 now I get to play fall ball since I can hit and throw and catch cause I watch your practice videos and batting and catching
I enjoy your videos, very informative. I am coaching here in Washington. I believe in breaking all of the skills down so the players have every advantage to better themselves and be competitive. Good work!
what the size of that band that you are using. I am coaching 12U girls and would love to work on this drill for a few of my girls. What is it called so that I can look for one. Thanks.
Hi Meg... This was super helpful. I have a young player that is making the transition to my 18u team, (she's13) And she has an awful dip. I do not mean just a shoulder dip. It looks like her whole back half is dropping. I've tried a few types of drills, and while on the tee, or even with soft-toss. We have it 75% corrected. But when up against the machine, and/or live pitching, she seem to go back to the dipping. Any suggestions on how to keep the back half from dropping considerably?? Your advise is greatly appreciated, and HIGHLY valued!
@Skye Hilton Hi Skye... Yes, we actually figured it out. What I did, was incorporate a couple combinations, that ultimately worked. The split hand drill that Meg displays in her video, along with me having her open her stance, seemed to work best. She lost a little bit of power, but all contact became solid. I also used a 2 tee method. One tee in front of the other, with the front tee slightly higher then the back tee. Forcing her to hit the front ball, and not touch the back. It took some time, and work. But she finally got it, and is killing it at the moment.
Still hit good to be hitting with one hand its hard for me to swing with one hand it feels weird and i'm taught by my at home coach(My dad) and coach of the team that it's with two hands...Talented! Also I like your videos they have good tips thanks!-Kamari
Great video as always. Very useful and fun in my practices with my 14u team. Can you tell me what is the size and kind of the band you are using in this one?
The worst part about my swing is I swing great when practicing and coaches always say “ backup, she’s hitting it to the outfield” but the minute I actually hit the ball I don’t swing all the way through for some reason and it only goes to center field. Thanks for this vid
Very debatable, I'd like to see the tee low inner half instead of waist high and outer half of the plate and see the results. It's a launch swing with an early commit . Interesting.
Have them load, stride and pause for a couple seconds and then say swing and they can swing from there. This will just help them feel. You can also do the “flamingo” drill. Have them balance on their back leg for a couple seconds and then stride and swing
My 12u daughter is pulling her head off the ball in game. She will hit 90% of pitches in practice, then during the game she strikes out a ton! Any drill suggestions?
The best one I have for that is put a ball right infront of the plate. After she swings, have her look at that ball. This helps over exaggerate keeping her head down. You can do this off a tee or off front toss.
fun fact. . do you know how to tell the difference between if a child is a boy or a girl when they're swinging a bat?? girls for the most part tend to keep their hips and their shoulders aligned in the same plane, whereas boys tend to rotate their shoulders further than their hips, thereby creating a more powerful swing. It's almost like an innate reaction. women very rarely allow their shoulders to rotate significantly further than their hips
Great video!! how long should my daughter be doing each drill or how many times? She plays 14U competitive but keeps popping the balls up we want more line drives 😁.🥎

I know this is an old comment, but hitting basketballs is terrible for your joints.

hey Meg, would you suggest your exercises for slow pitch mens league? also, what gym exercises would you suggest? thanks for the videos
Great video. Where do you those rubber bands?
Great video as always. Very useful and fun in my practices with my 14u team. Can you tell me what is the size and kind of the band you are using in this one?
It's a random one I found on Amazon. If you want, send me an email at Meganrem2@gmail.com and I can send you a link!

Nice video this will help me cause I got practice today thanks
When you say separated from your body, do you mean out, or back?
Back. I usually have them even with my back knee. Just need to be further away from the chest in order to generate more power.
Very debatable, I'd like to see the tee low inner half instead of waist high and outer half of the plate and see the results. It's a launch swing with an early commit . Interesting.
How many reps of each is recommended? We currently get about 1 hour weekly at the indoor facility with 2 lanes and typically have 6-7 girls . Thx!
I would say about 15-20 swings per drill is good. Be sure to remind them to take their time!
U rock
Thank you!
I really Need help thank you
How many swings do u do top hand and bottom hand?
I think 20 each is good!
What kind of band do you have
I help coach a girls 14u team and I’m having trouble teach them to load up on their back foot. Is there a drill you can recommend?
Have them load, stride and pause for a couple seconds and then say swing and they can swing from there. This will just help them feel.
You can also do the “flamingo” drill. Have them balance on their back leg for a couple seconds and then stride and swing

You are good. Better than most of those fat beer drinkers that think they can swing 😂

Normally about 10-15 reps per drill and she can incorporate these into her weekly routine
