    So then was Ground Zeros an exaggerated recreation of the real Mother Base attack, made in tribute to Big Boss when he died (released in the same year his files were declassified) and The Phantom Pain an attempt of the developers of the other simulations to honour Venom Snake and tell his story, which was largely forgotten by the world?

      To date, you're the only commenter who actually understood the video. That's something I'll have to address in a follow-up video, because it ties into the existence of the non-canon games within the Metal Gear universe.

  • @thegarsh2705

    To piggyback on your idea of the PS/Xbox existing in the Metal Gear universe: The original PlayStation is in Otacon’s office in the first MGS. It’s replaced by a GameCube in TTS.

    • @AfterlifeGames
      @AfterlifeGames  2 года назад +1

      It's not actually a PlayStation in the original game, it looks more like one of those Chinese knock-off consoles. It could be some kind of PS1 devkit. Or maybe that's just how the original PlayStation looks in the MG universe.
      TTS has an actual GameCube, though, as evidenced by the main menu showing up on the screen next to the console.

    I always thought that MGS2 was intended to be a VR simulation when it was released, but that MGS4 retconned this as a sort of copout to avoid a bigger copout of just ignoring everything about MGS2. That said, this honestly makes more sense than that explanation.

    I personally have a head canon that Twin Snakes is a Simulation and maybe it's even Raiden Playing it. That would explain the Why the Action In that game is Really over the top compared to the original PS1 game. It's so over the top Action is to feed in to the users Power fantasy and Ego. Making them feel like this 1 against a thousand. Against all odds, Super soldier War hero like Snake. To motivate and train soldiers. thats is also why it plays like MGS 2. It's either based off Or running on the Same VR technology as The triple S plan. And that may be why the audio feels worse in Twin Snakes. It's an acted Re creation not the real deal.
    In summary in my personal head canon the Original PS1 game is the real event of the Shadow Moses incident and Twin snakes is an elaborate re creation to Train soldiers to be like snake While giving them a Power fantasy of being Snake.

    • @AfterlifeGames
      @AfterlifeGames  3 года назад +11

      It's an interesting idea, but Twin Snakes is acknowledged in MGS4's flashbacks when Snake goes back to Shadow Moses. Since Snake has memories of both the original MGS1 and the remake, at best you could say Twin Snakes is Snake misremembering or exaggerating details.
      Raiden did play a simulation of MGS1, though: MGS1. And VR missions. Twin Snakes was released in 2004, so he also might've had a chance to play that before the Big Shell incident.

    Something that always amazed me about MGS ON PS1
    was the ability to go from a near endgame area Rex's lair all the way back to the heliport in a (linear )open world similar also to Snake eater.

    • @AfterlifeGames

      But at the end of the fight against Major Ocelot in MGS3, Snake fell through a hole because of The Pain's wasps, thus blocking off areas like Rassvet, the swamp and the Helipad.

    • @birdsteak9267
      @birdsteak9267 Год назад +2

      @@AfterlifeGames Open world aren't actually that specific unless people already know what that terminology specifically means. Games like Bandicoot is pretty locked, you can only move forward in a corridor. But MGS1 never were that linear, it's pretty open compared to most games at that time, though it's not a open world as we understand it, it's still pretty "open" and same with MG2 and MG3, but MG4 was pretty much locked down, it was only one way, through one corridor with many of optional corridor which leaded to bottlenecked parts for the story to continue. In a way, MGS1 was a lot more innovative in term of level design then credited with.

    unless you mean ocelot wanted big boss to look like a hero?
    so then its unreliable narrator at this point.. if the point you make in the other video is that we are supposed to think for ourselves and not believe what others say about big boss being evil because we never see it for ourselves, well if all the games are just games then we really see none of it for ourselves, its all meaningless

    I watched this right after your video about metal gear's anti war message. The thesis of that video seems to be something like "metal gear pretends to have an anti-war message, but because it's really fun to shoot a guy in the dick in that game, it's not actually anti-war". This video mentions how the series also has a message against playing too many video games, but it doesn't seem to apply the same principle to that message as the anti-war one. By your own logic, because the metal gear games are just fun to play in general, doesn't that mean their message against vr sims and in favor of thinking for yourself is invalidated?

      But still, if the games had been made public and all the characters had already seen those events, we would need to assume that either characters like liquid or DARPA chief already knew they would die but didn't do anything significant to prevent it, that no game is actually canonicall for the others(which I would be inclined to believe for MGS 1 and 2) or that whoever made the simulation for the original one deiced to keep making simulations without taking into account the changes that those simulations would bring with them... Also, what does the release years have to do with anything? It could be that the games was released different years in the world of the narrative. Would make more sense if for example Raiden played a simulation of The Shadow Moses Incident After it happened.
