- A weekly golfing match takes many twists and turns for four 'friends' in this overlooked, minor masterpiece. Like the best British comedies, it walks the line between humour and darkness, managing to be funny while maintaining a bitter, twisted edge that keeps it enjoyable to the last frame. Caddyshack it is not!
Duncan Preston is appropriately slimy as Slim Jim and Tony Robinson, in the years between playing Baldrick and becoming an accomplished documentary presenter, is as affecting as ever. But Richard O'Sullivan, cast against type, steals the show in what seems his last TV appearance after being a mainstay in British comedy for so long.
Poor richard suffered a bad stroke and now lives in brinsworth house in London a retirement home for actors....h was a great actor and comedian and should be up there on the top shelf of British actors. .
If you consider British comedy actors are legends like Ronnie Barker-Richard Beckinsale-Richard Briars-David jason-Harry H corbett and my fave Leonard Rossiter....O'sullivan has got to be up there with them...He was pretty much the same in everything he was in,but what you got was special and hes never in a scene unnoticed.
Richard does look well and acts well so hard to believe this was his first role in five years. It also turned out to be his last apart from an appearance on This is your Life for George Layton in 1999. Nice to see some lovely pictures recently of him when Meghan Markle visited him at Brinsworth House also with George and Robin Askwith who obviously keep in touch with him which is great.

Tony Robinson looking weirdly like Sylvester McCoy as Dr Who here, as he takes the decisive final action of the drama.

This looks like it was made prior to his stroke. It seems his career was winding down before this. He was only in his early fifties and younger than David Jason, who continued to get roles long after OFAH. The stroke must have been severe, as he hasn’t acted at all since this. He would’ve been good making a guest appearance in something like New Tricks, but obviously he must be an insurance concern.
It started off funny then took a sinister turn but I liked this movie!
