I purchased a use car today in CA and the seller signed in the buyer's section. I asked him not to scratch it out for now and I signed next to / under his signature. And he also checked the "Mileage exceeds the odometer mechanical limits" which he scratched on a little. What do I do?
It looks like to can actually do the whole transfer online at the CA DMV website.... so what am I missing? You upload a scanned copy and everything. I came here to figure out how to fill it out because I don't want to mess that up and the instructions on the website are not exactly clear. But this is more about having someone else do it. lol.
I've never heard of a way to do it online... Personally I'd be concerned the DMV would lose something or I'd fill something out imperfectly. Let me know if you figure this out because it would be a game changer if it worked.
@@NicksCarHistoryA third party DMV service is not cheaper lol Yes there is no appointment or wait time, but you still have to pay a fee. The DMV is free. They have way more knowledge, provide service for unique situations and can override anything. If you walk into the DMV 30 minutes before they close its usually a very small wait time.

My truck is under my dad’s name but I’ve been the one who has been paying the car off. Would it be okay to just transfer the car to my name or just leave it? Tips from others is appreciated

@@uboii no i would say leave it blank since its a gift but turn around the pink slip and on the “new register owner” bottom right thats where you state gift in writing!
ALSO, make a copy of the signs document, before giving it to DMV - they are notorious for losing things. DEALTH with it many times, and the copy saved MORE $$$ being sucked away from me.
You forgot the 2nd seller signature line under the odometer statement. I believe this NEEDS to be signed by the seller in addition to the release signature. Very important signature you don't want to miss!

And im planning to moved at different state. The car is registered in my mom's state right now, like i said im planning to moved in a different state. What should i do? I hope you might help me... Why not the dmv? Don’t independent offices charge yet another fee for doing the paperwork? Maybe I’m lucky I’m waiting 15-45 min at my local dmv office.

how do i fill out this form if all i want to do is remove a name from the title. currently on the title, i have my name and someone else's name with an "OR" in between. is filling out this form different in that case? i'm not technically selling it; im just removing a name from the title. thanks in advance!
@@djayeenayea. The person you want removed has to sign 1a. Leave 1b blank. Then you both sign and date the bottom part after it says “I certify that..” there’s also a dmv transfer form you have to fill out yourself for the cost of the car. I said the car cost $1 or a gift and it worked. I brought it to dmv and they mailed me my new title with just my name on it.
Great video. If the car is not operable and I can’t do smog check can I still sell it? Also do I need a separate bill of sale or just the part that comes with title? I’m in California. Thank you

If I understand you in order to transfer the title to me he needs only sign the title and FedEx it to me, as I can fill in everything else, yes? Please explain the box directly under the owner's date and signature. It begins with "Federal and State Law requires that you state the mileage...." and then there's an "under penalty of perjury" declaration for the odometer reading with a signature and date lines? Are you saying, the seller doesn't need to do this part? And what about the 3rd signature in the bottom right corner that releases interest?

Take it to a tag office! Usually the people there are nice about it. Worst case is they make you pay a small fine.
What about if you're just given it to a Relative.. How would that work the same?

Yea once its paid off and you get a new title without the bank as a lien transfer it under gift so you dont pay taxes on the transfer

Get the appointment online before driving there during the week day

You have to smog it when you transfer a car and the car needs to be transferred within 90 days for it to be valid

Yeah keep it. Once you pay your car off, the car is officially YOUR car (which is what the title actually means proof for)
