Maybe if Squeak gets cold this winter, she will simply knock on the door and her kind humans will let her in. Maybe into a playpen by the door with peanuts there where she can go back outside easily. Perhaps a litter box for her deposits.😊

I recently watched a video where they were playing with a porcupine like it was a puppy. I never knew they were so playful! lolI wonder if she wants a playmate? Since she's a baby...
I don't know if it's the same one I saw a couple of years back. She/he was very active, turning in circles like it was chasing its tail. I'm going to look for it later to rewatch. I never would've guessed that a porcupine could be so quick and active. Could you, pretty please give the link to the one you saw?
@@joels7605 could you bottle feed her some kind of milk formula suitable for baby porcupines? People seem to be able to do this for a lot of different mammals who get orphaned, so it should be possible ? Also, could you weigh her now and then to see how she's doing weight wise?
She is adorable! How do you determine who can come in or not? Also, I wonder if Squeak has a problem in her mouth. Perhaps that’s why she isn’t growing much because she can’t get enough nutrients? Anyway, thank you for sharing, I just love seeing them all!
Pretty much if the want to come in, and if we think they'll freak out. If they won't freak out and they want to come in, then we'll let them. I think she was just born really late to a mother that was waaaay too young. She's growing now.
The tiniest porcupine in the world, your lovely Squeak (I almost wrote our lovely!). Have you guys researched which food is more nutricious for them? I worry about Squeak size and frailty...sorry for asking.
We've done some research, but it's really hard to get them to take anything other than certain foods. All of them will eat raw peanuts. Some of them will eat Gala apples. A couple of them will eat sweet potato. Spike will only eat Gala apples IF THEY'RE SLICED A CERTAIN WAY. She sneezes at you if you slice them wrong. We keep trying different foods but they're just so incredibly picky that they don't ever want it.
I was talking with a rehabber today. I'm going to pick Squeak up some romaine lettuce next time I get groceries. No guarantee she'll eat it though. She's a picky little porcupine.
@@joels7605 Porcupines, once again, just...making no sense! Apples having to be sliced a certain way. Showing dissatisfaction by SNEEZING at you. I'm more and more convinced they didn't really evolve, they're some sort of joke that Mother Nature created when she was REALLY drunk one night.
He is not playing with a porcupine toy. He needs his mom he’s a little baby. He needs to have a mom with milk or somebody needs to give him some milk to help him grow. He was not playing with that stuffed animal.
So what happened with Squeak is that she was born very, very late in the year to a mother who was way too young to be having babies. And she did a really bad job of mothering, and pretty much gave up early on. I think she stopped producing milk very early as well. If you look at the size of Squeak compared to the other three porcupines that were born this year she's microscopic. It's very clear that something went really wrong. So we've been trying to fill in for her mother. Squeak usually comes by a couple times a day, and we give her as much food as she'll eat to try to put some weight on before winter. We tried special rodent formula and a ton of other foods, but she wouldn't take them. The only thing she will eat are peanuts, sweet potato and sometimes gala apple slices. Right now she's still small, but she is putting on weight. I think she'll be okay. But I do believe she's playing. She'll grab the stuffed toy, carry it around, push it around the floor, tackle it, and chew on it. If you show her one of her toys you can watch her pounce on it almost like a cat. I'm pretty sure she's having fun.
@@joels7605 whoever is making the video needs to call their local wildlife management services.
