Well, I also used the king's rule, except that was after an integration by parts, some trig manipulations and a substitution. But it wasn't finish yet, because after that I also had to use a Weierstrass substitution to finally find the answer after some wild simplifications. So instead of 5 min it tooks me 45 min, but I enjoyed the ride 😀

Out of curiosity - how long did it take the contestant to solve this?

This year I competed and it took a few minutes with the help of my teammate, who spotted the kings rule trick very quickly. With most of these questions its super dependent on how quickly you can spot the shortcut and if you get lucky with the ideas on the day.
