Thanks, I'm glad you liked it and thank you for commenting! Has always been one of my favorite songs and bands. Their unplugged DVD is unbelievable from beginning to end!
Hey, thanks for watching man and glad you liked it! I largely did the synth, because I'm not much of a singer. I did put a version up with vocals from a friend awhile back, though. Check it out, if you're interested. ruclips.net/video/JR_cwFRUZt4/видео.html
I have so much respect for this song, for my favorite band growing up and the fact that you took the time to give a good lesson tabs and all for those not familiar with different tuning I can forgive the synth...I still felt something listening to this. I have sung this (vocals only) for many years..and now 15+ years of guitar playing later I can't think of a good reason not to learn this now...I may also play around with the idea of attempting an arrangement if possible for solo guitar. THANK U
great lessons and tutorial format. Going thru the various instruments is perfect for me. Not a big fan of covering but every once in a while i like to just play.... thanks for transcribing all the parts for free!
hell yea. took me a few hours but i finally got it! haven't played in over 15 years, so the chord progression was BRUTAL on my fingertips. strumming was also tough, but i got it as well. it was a lot of fun playing rhythm, while you did the other instruments. thanks for uploading this Rockstar Guitar Studio!
question: i can't figure out when to hammer on the A during the cadd9 chord progression. i do hammer on the bottom e towards the end of the progression much sooner than u do though. i hammer it for the last 6 strums of the chord or so. any tips would be great. everyone enjoy playing this amazing song!
That's just your way of thinking. In my case, I agree with the guy who made the tutorial, buy I'm sure there's people that agreeds with you. What I think is more important here is that the guy who made this video thought it was apropiate and thats fine for me. Thanks for the video, I love how the bass is so easy to hear on this track.
Jacob Chesterfield I'm glad the lesson helped! Thanks for watching and commenting! There will be another AIC song in the future, not sure which one yet.
I hear what you're saying. If it was just a cover, I would have tuned down. For instructional purposes, I used standard pitch. It's easier for most beginners, if they don't have to change tuning to learn and play along.
The swell settings on the synth messed with the phrasing a bit, that's what you're hearing. I couldn't find a setting that completely got rid of that effect. I debated not putting it in, but the vocal melody is such a big part of this song. Either way, it's definitely better than what my vocals would have sounded like! =) Thanks for watching!
The tuning used is largely for convenience. I've taught a lot of students who were strictly youtube students before taking lessons. Most didn't even own tuners and found it extremely difficult to change tuning. While it's true this would develop their ear, most would simply skip learning something if they had to change tuning to play along. I wanted this lesson to appeal to varying levels of players. I figure that most more serious players will be playing along to the original recording anyway.
where are the hammer ons for the Cadd9? I disagree, using the correct tuning is easier for beginners. Uhhhh I was once a beginner and I was always pissed and confused that someone didnt tell me the correct tuning. Have to learn it the correct way first, then decide what tuning to play it in based on vocal range. Alternate tunings and proper tuning should be the first thing a beginner learns so they can train the ear to hear differences in notes.
hey was looking for the tab for it online on the site mentioned but can't find it :( any chance you could send me a link ? thanks ! great job.. i love this song so much

That acoustic guitar tone is literally SPOT ON. I know this track like the back of my hand and you sound so close to the unplugged sessions tone it's unreal. Small gripe though, that synth was intrusive/out of time :)
The rhythm part taught in the verse stays the same throughout the entire song. He does make some really slight variations in it, but to simplify things, I only showed it one way.
You are correct. I simplified the rhythm part somewhat for beginners. To do it 100% accurate to the song, you just need to add in the hammer-ons. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Rockstar Guitar Studio Don't mean to pester you, but also wouldn't you move your middle finger down onto the G after the first chord? That's what it sounds like. Not tryna be a know-it-all, I'm just askin'...
Joe Mamma Are you talking about the intro, before the strumming begins? If so, the second chord in the progression is G, so yes you would move to the G shape.
Great song, great playing, and nice guitar & bass, a bit undecided about the synth and drum quality though. And also, this song has nothing to do with rockstar status, in fact it is the complete opposite!
Thanks for watching! The drums are made with EZ Drummer. Without a great studio setup, mics and a drummer, it's not possible for me to get real drum sounds. I hear some of the drum sounds people get with this program and I have no idea how they do it. It's beyond my ability with the program at this point! Same deal with the synth. The vocal melodies are such a big part of the song, that I wanted to include them. I tried it on guitar first, but just couldn't find a tone that made it sound good to me. I also can't sing, so I didn't want to butcher the hell out of one of my favorite songs! Their Unplugged album is one of my top albums of all time.
Rockstar Guitar Studio Interesting. I always considered EZ drummer a viable option, but like you, no idea how others do it - some people are good with drum programs! I opted for a midi keyboard and EQ'ed garageband drum kits. I do everything manual - and since I'm not a drummer, going by ear is the best thing I can do. I use the music I like as a reference, and go from there. I understand you completely in regards to vocals, Layne Staley is not the easiest to recreate or replicate! I just tried to imagine doing a cover of their song Sunshine, and those kind of vocals (listen to the chorus) just make you want to ignore vocals completely!
Thomas Daluise The original song is tuned down a half step to Eb and is in the key of Eb minor. In this video I played it in standard tuning, so you're hearing it as Em. Thanks for watching!
The latest website update apparently isn't showing the links to download the tab. I apologize and will work on fixing it. All tabs can be found at the above link. Thanks for watching!
As mentioned in the original posting, this is taught in standard tuning. I did this to make it easier for beginner guitar players, who aren't familiar with and/or might not want to tune their guitar down. All the parts are still played the same, you will just need to tune down to play with the original song.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it and thank you for commenting! Has always been one of my favorite songs and bands. Their unplugged DVD is unbelievable from beginning to end!
Dude, this is a badass artistic remake. The recording quality is pretty damn good for DI. I love it!

How do you play the bass part in acoustic guitar
MT BOM!!!!
I have that same acoustic
It's a pretty decent acoustic/electric, especially for the low price! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hi, what about the Bass, is in standart tuning on this video? thanksss
The bass is also in standard tuning for the video. The original album recording is a 1/2 step flat. Thanks for watching!
That acoustic guitar tone is literally SPOT ON. I know this track like the back of my hand and you sound so close to the unplugged sessions tone it's unreal. Small gripe though, that synth was intrusive/out of time :)
dude, what is rhytim in mi and in sol?
The rhythm part taught in the verse stays the same throughout the entire song. He does make some really slight variations in it, but to simplify things, I only showed it one way.
Is it in drop d or standard
The lesson is in standard tuning, but the original song is tuned a half step down. Thanks for watching!
I'm pretty sure your supposed to hammer on the A half way through your Cadd9's.
You are correct. I simplified the rhythm part somewhat for beginners. To do it 100% accurate to the song, you just need to add in the hammer-ons. Thanks for watching and commenting!
